Horizon Zero Dawn is not only a 3 years old exclusive , it's also a big sign that Sony is ready to change its old business model to something far better , a model that is based on quality of service and price ,HZD wasn't the first exclusive title that came to PC , Sony started dipping its toes by releasing a minor title called Helldiversin 2015 , even before Microsoft announce Quantum Break for PC in 2016 ,remember how fanboys lost their mindswhen they heard the news

Now look, 4 years passed and thanks to Phil Spencer we have The Master Chief Collection is on steam , how crazy is that ? :D , not to mention mention that it has already sold more than 2 million copies. All I'm saying is that HZD won't be the last exclusive you're going to see on steam and you should be ready to hear more announcements soon however if Sony want to make this profitable , they better follow these rules:

1-Right Price , No Monetization

after 3 years 59$ is too much even for a complete edition , and please no microtransaction

2-We Don't Want A broken Port

A broken port will never sell , no matter how good the game is , RDR2 is a good example of that

3-Sony Port your old titles before they get emulated

Bloodbron @60fps is a must have , so you better hurry up before it's tool late

4-Tell me what's missing ...

Sony already clarified, dude. Once in a while, when PS gamers have had their fun already, they throw the PC beggar race an aging exclusive. They are not going to give up all their exclusives, lol. This has been made clear.

Let's face it, many pc gamers are just closet Sony gamers wanting barely interactive movie games to show off their Geforce TXRSR nobody gives a shit about and vice versa many Sony games just PC gamers who can't afford or understand pc gaming.

@uninspiredcup: hot take u got there. Whats wrong with liking cinematic games? I dont see any problem with someone liking a certain genre, unless they are attacking someone else for their preferences.

Related, there are plenty of real problems in gaming, such as how the market is ever increasingly so shifted to mindless profit mill games with mictrotransactions and games as a service, which are objectively bad for gaming. Why are people light on those issues? Lack of perspective perhaps?

My guess is that this port of Horizon exists to get more sales out of a game which sales has dwindled. Pretty sure Sony isn't gonna release PC ports of new console games. Just ones that wont screw with the sales of their console. So... Gimme Bloodborne.

The question is, knowing that the pc premiums sales accounts for something like 15% of all pc revenue.

F2p, P2p and webgaming for 70% of all pc revenues.

F2p and the like raised by 20% in less than three years on pc market.

Even if Sony and others come to release all of their exclusives on pc, will this change this trend???

Pc market is mostly driven by asian market and i don't see it shifting anytime soon.

This is why i think that the move is more symbolic, to attract the pc crowd, not the other way around.

Not sure it will be successful but it's still a good start.

Because the non-Sony, non-PC fanboys are those little twerps you always see egging people on.

It's like the instigator, the person in school who is like "Oh did you hear so and so is talking shit?" to person A, then he goes and says "Hey, did you hear so and so wants to fight you for talking shit?" to person B, and then when there is pointless confrontation they thrive on it.

Drama queens is what they are.

Except premium PC game sales are continuing to grow especially in Asia. Major game developers and publishers such as Capcom, Ubisoft and Take Two have stated recently that they've seen large growth in their share of revenue from PC and PC is now a high priority for them. If PC sales weren't worth much Epic wouldn't be throwing around millions of dollars for exclusives just to get people to buy from their store. The Master Chief Collection on PC sold over 2 million in 2 days. Horizon Zero Dawn will easily hit 1 million sales on PC in no more than a month.

Sorry something went wrong here!!!

Pc growth is mainly caused by the F2P sector :

Rising from 18.9 Bn in 2016 to 24.5 Bn in 2019.

The premium pc gaming is now at 5.2 Bn ( 2019 ) far behind consoles side.

Don't have any numbers of previous years so I can't tell you what the growth rate was. I'll try to see if I can find any infos on the

matter. But If you have these already, please share.

So if these numbers remain this way and pc growth remains the same ( 4% ) releasing some exclusives on it won't change the global trend.

@NoodleFighter:

It's right there in the source. 2019 didn't have big, well named releases. Also if you look closely and read their source the difference between premium PC and consoles isn't that big even if F2P on PC is far far bigger. Notice that Premium games and Pay to play on PC are two categories but on consoles there are just Premium and F2P. They lumped P2P and premium on consoles. Another thing to note is that these revenues don't include VR or other similar games on the PC side. One more thing that skew these numbers is that MTs on paid games are count under premium on consoles while on PC side those don't have that much of an impact as these games were designed for console whales and PC gamers has better options or tools like trainers to by pass these.

Let's be optimistic here and say it's some phenomena due to some bad year ( genres not appealing to the pc crowd etc ).

No matter how we twist these numbers though , there's something that cast bad omen on the future of this platform imo.

In three years the f2p market jumps from 60% to 70% ( 2016-2019 ) market share on pc. Let's extrapolate a little here, if the trend keeps up the same pace, what will be the future of gaming on pc in 10 years???

It seems to me that as PC-gamers, we'd better start to think thoughtfully about our buying habits and the repercussions that it will have on our platform. ( I know the Asian market leads here but we still have to do our part here. )

Secondly how can we cringe about pc not being the lead platform on the premiums??? When the bulk of the money of this market segment comes from consoles!!!

We can't have it both ways.

PS : I'm on some reports right now trying to figure out the trend on premiums from 2015 to 2020. I'll come back to you if I find anything of interest.

@sovkhan: Well as PC_Rocks said in the superdata source they said that there wasn't as many big games in 2019 as 2018. NPD also claims that the Epic Store buying out exclusivity for most of the biggest games in 2019 also caused the decline in PC game sales on all platforms. Mike Rose, No More Robots founder claims that the increasing competition of games is causing the average indie game on Steam to make less revenue. Although Valve claims in their 2019 year in review that game sales have had year over year growth.

Premium game sales are going up in Asia even in 2019. Let's see how 2020 goes to see if 2019 was just an off year.

The thing, is even if you take a good year as 2018, the split is like 3.5x for the f2p model.

We need a balanced offer, or act in a way to avoid the predominance of the f2p model on pc.

It maybe a wishful thinking, but i don't see this trend as a good outcome.

Anyway let's wait to see what 2020 has under its sleeves.
