https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019-02-28-resident-evil-hd-0-and-4-on-nintendo-switch-cost-gbp30-each

Pretty disgusting, I said this eshop was terrible, people defended it. Now reality has once again proven me right, which unfortunate. But expected.

Resident Evil HD, 0 and 4 on Nintendo Switch cost £30 each

Taxing.

Capcom has been criticised for the pricing of Resident Evil HD, 0 and 4 on Nintendo Switch.

As revealed on the Switch eShop today, each game costs £29.99. This is much higher than fans were expecting - and much higher than the same games on other consoles.

Resident Evil 4, for example, costs £15.99 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It's almost twice that on Nintendo Switch.

Elsewhere, you can get Resident Evil HD and 0 as a bundle together for £23 on PS4.

As you'd expect, the reaction to the pricing online has been negative, with many bringing up the dreaded "Nintendo Switch tax".

The Switch tax, as it's been dubbed by the community, is thought to relate to the fact Switch games come on carts, which are more expensive to produce than discs.

When it comes to download games, digital pricing is usually set to match the price of physical games to keep shops on-side, which is why you get these extortionate prices for eShop games.

Still, it seems these Resi titles are particularly expensive on Switch, especially when you consider Capcom isn't releasing them on cart in the UK. We've asked Capcom for an explanation and will update if the publisher offers anything.

Wow. It's true.

Resident Evil 4 (Switch) - £29.99

Resident Evil Zero (Switch) - £29.99

Resident Evil remake (Switch) - £29.99

Total - £89.97

Resident Evil Triple Pack (all of the above) (Xbox One) - £39.99

I have them on PS4... I have no need for ports on Switch that are available elsewhere.

It's pretty insane. I feel the same way about FF games being re-released at expensive prices on the Switch.

But that's fine, if it seems too expensive I just won't buy it. Lots of newer games I'd rather put my money towards.

At least Link's Awakening is a remake and not a direct port, and NSMBU Deluxe is a complete collection of two fairly recent games. But at least there's still enough original games on the system that are worth it.

If you wanna play it on the best system, it'll cost ya.

Poor people, play elsewhere.

Meh. I don’t think it’s really that bad myself. Perhaps they could have been a bit cheaper, like $20 or $25 each. Anyway the carts are more costly so I kind of expect higher prices for them myself. My only real gripe is that they don’t use a larger cart size to put both RE0 and RE1 on one cart instead of making one downloadable.

@uninspiredcup: Quadruple the price? No. They are double the price that they are being offered there currently however they have been available on Steam for some time now so have seen price drops on there since they came out on that platform. They are releasing on the Switch for the first time so games usually go for a premium price when they do that. Also you conveniently left out the rest of my post where I said perhaps they could have been a bit cheaper along with the fact that the Switch game cards cost a bit more then blu-rays and when there is both a physical and digital release of games then the digital versions will be the same as the physical ones so as to have parity with the stores that sell the physical versions.

Yeah, those prices are kinda dirty. I understand having a higher price-point as they are new ports, although they are older games. Gotta cover those dev costs, and then some... And then some...

$40 Canadian plus tax. Lol no thanks. It was $25 on PS4, and that was for a physical copy too.

Doesn’t everyone overcharge for their Switch ports? Doom and Skyrim launched as full priced games while they were in bargain bins everywhere else.

Resident Evil 4 while its one the best games ever made I paid £30 for the GameCube when it came out.... That said I am tempted as I play my Switch in portable mode 90% and a RE4 in my hand does sound nice.

When I heard this, my plans of purchasing RE4 for only the second time since its original release were cancelled.

Nah, I've passed on RE4 on PS4 for $8 a number of times. Not gonna pay $30 for this on Switch. I'll wait for the inevitable sale.

This is part of the fun of owning switch you have so many expensive games to choose from even old ones.

You gotta pick and just choose the best ones and its kinda fun.

@uninspiredcup: What a lame ass reply that was from you. Never mind responding to the fact that you’re wrong about the quadruple price comment or anything else that I posted. You really shouldn’t have bothered responding if that was all your brain was going to fart out.

When these RE games don't sell...Capcom : "You see Nintendo gamers don't like RE games" :P

That's Capcom setting the price, btw.

Roughly speaking

4 X 22 = 88

3X30 = 90

Can't really complain on the price given I bought Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy on the Switch for the same price of $30 as I didn't feel it was that terrible. That said, there are a ton of other issues where Capcom is just dicking over Nintendo fans... AGAIN! *looks at both Mega Man collections on the platform*

This is no surprise. They have captive fans who will defend them to the death, so they can. You'll see it here, people making excuses like lame control methods justifying a double price hike on a rerelease, and people saying "don't like it don't buy it" despite knowing full well there are people who will be buying this and could be saving a lot of money.

That’s the Nintendo tax and the cost of being a fanboy.

Nintendo knows they can gouge their fanbase and their fanbase will still buy it. You can already see fanboys in here defending it LOL

These same fanboys have already bought RE4 on every system released and will do the same again on switch.

Why? Because Switch has no games and they would rather play 15 year old ports in a pitiful attempt to hold onto nostalgic feelings.

An argument over the cost of rebuying games one already should own (i.e. Resident Evil 4), potentially already own more than one copy of, potentially more than one copy across console generations.

Also, an argument over paying $15-20 more for something on an item already considered a luxury. Don't want to pay it? Want to send a message to the platform offering it? Don't buy it. It's not like you don't have other options to go and play Resident Evil 4.

a captive fan base will do this. Essentially there aren't that many other options and the fans are so loyal to this corporation that the price doesn't matter. Whether they charge £5 or £50 the same numbers will likely come in, and as demonstrated here, they wont grumble about it at all. They will justify the price because of an inappropriate control scheme or the portability, or will just say "don't like it? Don't buy it." and the cycle continues.

The fanbase isn't discerning or critical enough so you get this.
