What are your favorite and least favorite gaming genres?

Favorite gaming genre - Hack N Slash, JRPG, FPS, Action Adventure, Competitive Multiplayer

Least favorite gaming genre - Games where the whole point is just grinding lol. Social Sims (what’s the point?). Any game where there isn’t a clear and direct end goal lol.

What about you, SW? What’s your favorite gaming genre and least favorite ones?

Favorite: Engineering games. Strategy. Boomer Shooters. Zelda-Style AA's.

Least Favorite: MOBAs, Battle Royale, Auto-"Chess", Gacha

Favourite action/adventure obviously (MGS4, MGS5, TLOU1-2, RDR2 and so many more games would go in this broad genre)

least favourite: obviously shitty racers and simulators.

Least - Auto battler, casino, FPS, gacha, sandbox

@Jag85: When you say sandboxes, do you mean Open World crap like GTA? Or proper emergent sandboxes like Dwarf Fortress, Crusader Kings and X3: Terran Conflict? Or both.

I absolutely despise the former, while I love the latter.

Favorite: fighting and racing games.

Least: Point and click adventure games. I've enjoyed a few, but the story has to be really compelling and funny.

Both. Whether it's GTA-style open world or Minecraft-style sandbox, I don't care about either. But I haven't played any of those three sandbox games you listed. Dwarf Fortress looks like some RPG Maker game.

Favorite: Action Adventure, Adventure, RPG, Fighting, Racing

Least favorite: Hero shooter, Sandbox (like Minecraft), Non-combat Flight Sim

When I think of Dwarf Fortress I imagine a game that looks like this,

Still one of the GOATs though.

But that is fair. I like Sandboxes because they are the king of emergent gameplay. Open World games, were basically just an interactive loading screen for uninspired content. Seriously, the open world very rarely adds anything of value to games.

Favorite has been RPG for some time. Still is depending on what type of genre people put souls game in as well as Zelda.

Least favorite would be RTS.

I am open to anything except sports games like football, soccer and other non changing sports games. With that said, I hate when developers with movie aspiration negatively affect my gaming experience in genres in which I want to play and not sit back in non interactive poorly written stories.

At the moment i am playing JRPGs and...er....monster hunter (Action game? RPG also?). So those types anyway :p.

In general i enjoy a lot of games from different genres.

• Rpgs of all kinds (Baldurs Gate, Deus Ex, Some FF games, Xenoblade, Witcher series: all good stuff).
• Shooters (FPS and TPS. I haven't played many of those lately though i have to admit. COD would probably feel pretty fresh to me :P).
• Racing games (Sim and arcade. I Enjoy a good mario kart as much as i enjoy a good F1 or Rally game).
• Strategy: (TB and RT. I must get back into total war when this current JRPG bender finally ends :P).
• Space sims (i have X4: Foundation ready to go for when i upgrade my PC. it does not like my 1500X much).

I think the only games i just dismiss are sports games (Outside F1 and Rally). Fifa, Hockey, Basketball etc...no interest in these types of games.

Other than that i can't really think of a genre I outright ignore.
