I mean games you play when you’re taking a break from the main game you’re playing? Usually for me it’s an FPS like Call of Duty, Rainbow Six, or even Apex Legends. Lately it’s been MLB The Show. How about you, SW? What are your ‘in-between’ games?

Um, those don't exist for me. Either I'm playing one game or not gaming at all.

Can’t say that I have any “in between” games in that sense. I usually have a two or three games on the go at any given time and I’ll jump around to various other games whenever the mood strikes. Have numerous games in my backlog that I’ll jump to and from at a moment’s notice.

There's really no such thing as in-between games which really doesn't make a lot of sense to begin with. I play games and I intend to finish them and if I want a break from that game, I take real breaks.

Too many to list, PC's highly played online library is ludicrous.

Yeah occasionally I'll have that go to game when I don't feel playing something with a greater degree of investment. Lately it's been Tetris Effect. Tetris is always a pick up n play good time. And Tetris Effect just has the vibes. Good for a few minutes or a few hrs either way.

Old NES games, random assortment. Often play 1943. Also Tomb Raider level editor games, tons to choose from, awesome community. Pewpew shooters, beat em ups, etc.

@SolidGame_basic:

Nope, bet it's sick tho. Even the pancake version feels about as "immersive" as Tetris can be, I'd definitely like to check it out in VR some time.

At the moment, I often play Star Wars Squadrons and Killer Instinct when I don't feel like making progress in whatever single-player thing I'm currently working through. Was on a retro kick a month or so back with Bloody Roar and XGRA. Fighting and racing games fill this space well.

Honestly I spend more time playing this "in between" stuff than my main games. It's why it took me over a year to get through Control.

I like it. Same thing with Rez. Both games get a boost with VR. Another cool thing with Rez is that the PSVR 2 version has the eye tracking feature where you can aim just by looking 😄

I think I know what tc is getting at. Helldivers, Rocket League, Super Mega Baseball.... Games I never delete from my system because when I'm not invested wholly in a "bigger" game I tend to gravitate to these games to play in smaller spurts of time.

It’s overwhelming in a good way. Easily one of my favorite “wow” moments in VR. Kinda odd it’s from Tetris… But I’ve loved that game for a few decades now…

@ghostofgolden:

Yeah when the core game is guaranteed good, only up from there.

But yeah man I don't doubt it. I remember it seeming odd just how much I thoroughly enjoyed the pancake version. "It's just pretty Tetris", well yeah, but that's one hell of an audiovisual experience stacked onto a great game. I can only imagine how amped up it is in VR.

I like the in-between games more than I do the AAA's. It's why I have 500+ hours into The Binding of Isaac (plus dlc) over the past several years. Twin stick perfection.

Anything that's completely different. Change of scenery is important for me.

Examples: when I take breaks from Total War: Warhammer, I tend to gravitate towards some sort of action game, such as Spider-Man or Doom. Also, between Warframe sessions, I would mix it up with something slower and narrative-driven, such as Subnautica and Horizon Zero Dawn. During my Mass Effect Trilogy play-throughs, I would play something that can be played in short sessions with instant results, such as racing games and fighting games.

Playing two similar games makes me miserable.

I like playing some community mad content. Like a custom map in Company of Heroes or a community made level in Prodeus.

I swear, the stuff I'm seeing in prodeus can rival AAA design.

At the moment none really - perhaps Elden Ring since I have 500 hours played across multiple playthroughs.

Back in the day I beat MGS4 like 50 times. was in between every other game from 2008-2013 or so.

Don't know what you're talkin about. Play is play, I just play what I'm feeling like. It's not a chore where I'm "working" on one game, take a break and do something else. :-S

Bro, "Play"Station, not "Work"Station. "Game" Boy, not "Work" Boy. XD

"Dream"Cast not "Work"Cast. HA, I'm just entertaining myself at this point.

I usually just play one game at a time, but sports games can fill that spot of an ”in between“ game for me.

Super Mega Baseball 3 has been a go-to lately. Since it’s the last week of school, I’ve been playing through a short, customized season with one of my classes to see how far we get. Looks like elimination in the first round of the playoffs. :(

I like to play My League on NBA2K, that's pretty much the only reason i get this games. I also play Hearthstone, but that's more like a side game while i'm at work.

I'm pretty all over the place...

lately, MW2 (2022) has been filling that role. game is surprisingly fun, coming from someone who hasn't been into CoD multiplayer in over a decade.

If i'm in the mood for something more chill, might play a bit of Call of the Wild: The Angler, or Dune Spice Wars which i've been dabbling with.

might jump into a bit of BF2042 or Rocket League is friends are playing as well.

Historically, i'd always go back to Company of Heroes 2, but I got burned out on it eventually, and the new one is not very good in its current state.

Usually a building game, city builder, or TBS/4X.

Specifically:

  • Satisfactory
  • Cities: Skylines
  • Stellaris
  • Hardspace: Shipbreaker

I don't have any in-between games. All of the games I play are GAAS games.

  • Diablo 3/4
  • Destiny 2
  • Dota 2
  • League of Legends
  • Team Fortress 2
  • Valorant
  • Overwatch 2 (sometimes)
  • Elite: Dangerous

Point is, I literally never have a moment where I'm "in between" games. There's always new content in one of my mains to go collect. And the nice thing about it is that these games are all minimal investments or outright FREE, so my gaming costs are largely limited to hardware. If I didn't buy another new game, I'd still have enough games I haven't even played but still own to last me damn near through 2030.

It's good to be a PC gamer, btw.

Games without story. E.g., rts, tbs, racing game - these are the games i come back to and poke at over and over when I finish or just want a break from the latest story-driven “adventure”
