I don’t enjoy inventory management in RPGs. It’s tedious and doesn’t add to my enjoyment of the game at all lol. A good example is Bethesda games where you can literally pick up anything and don’t know how useful it is or not. And then you have to manage your weight, which also adds to the tedium. So yea, inventory management is a no no for me! How about you, SW? What are your least favorite things to do in a game?

Talking and watching cutscenes. In other words watching the game be played for me.

I need action and input.

navigating huge skill trees across a bunch of different abilities, particularly when im having to spend xp on shit that my character should just be able to do from the off. you're playing some deadly assassin but have to buy the ability to throw a dagger or something real basic that should just be a given.

lengthy unskippable tutorials at the start, particularly patronising ones like ghosts of sushi where it's teaching you noddy stuff like, this is how you crawl under something, this is how you climb a wall.

stages where you lose all your gear and need to get through a lengthy area to retrieve it.

stealth that's basically crouch in tall grass and you're invisible

Cutscenes that cannot be skipped and long walking segments where the characters talk and you can't skip them either, and anything else that takes the controller away from you🤦‍♂️

Exactly. I don't know why this shit is a thing in gaming and why there are so many highly rated games that are littered with this.

Too much talking. The new GoW games are the worst offenders. Characters are constantly talking. So much bland throwaway dialog. Exploring? Constant talking. Puzzle """solving"""? Constant talking. Combat? Constant talking. Loading screens? Atreus talking to himself and going lmao im talking to meself.

Imagine being hired to do voicework on a game and 70% of your lines are "stand there", "use that weapon", "hey, it's this way".

GRWAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

It's why I like shit like AC, because it's about 60 hours of me being alone in the game.

And hunting stuff to be a more on topic. Kinda dig it in RDR2. That game gets away with a lot of stuff though.

Idk. I think almost anything can be made interesting.

One thing I do strongly dislike are waypoint systems. They transform something I love, exploration and taversal, into the most menial, braindead experience.

Fine with cutscenes and such as long as I'm into the story/characters. I dig a deep tale. But if the story sucks, then yeah, having to sit through unskippable shit sucks.

Other than that, I hate battling shitty cameras in games. Sometimes the hardest boss is the camera.

@SolidGame_basic: I actually enjoyed inventory management in RE4 og, it made the game more enjoyable, and a good way to organize your stuff and your thoughts, even relax for a bit from the action. RE4 remake took that away with the automatic inventory management, which sucks. But when I went back to playing RE4 og, I found myself trying to auto inventory manage. Its wierd, both liking inventory management and disliking it.

Most crafting/cooking I don’t enjoy, especially when it’s really grindy. Also long cutscenes, and quick time events.

Leveling up in your character XP in missions where you need to be a certain level to start the mission. Also crafting items in games like ammo, weapons, armor just too much when you need to search for items for particular stuff.

Metered Chase Scenes - Activities where they forced you to chase some thing for an allotted amount of time, for no good reason. Arkham Knight did it with car chases, and Spiderman did it with pigeons. If you can find a smart way to catch the "thing" by setting up your attack, then you should be able to. The forced chase just isn't fun.

Fetch-quests and any kind of grindy gameplay. Waste of my time.

Also overly long cutscenes.

Here's something I hate in video games: entering an airport and there are zero planes for you there. NPC's having access to vehicles you can't have.

In Far Cry 2 you get aids while the NPC's never have their guns jam? How can Ghosts praise a game with this many flaws?

Nothing will make me lose interest in a game more than the game being braindead easy. When its easy, i ask myself what is the point of even playing it when you can watch it on twitch or youtube while you're at it. Nothing is more triggering.

A random one that i played last year is the campaign of monster hunter rise for example. Makes you wonder if that experience was truly crafted for a boy between 5 and 13 years old.

Anything that is Jumpy/Scary i'm not doing it. A certain section in Phantom Liberty: Nope. Alien Isolation: Hell Nope. Jeff in HL Alyx: OH GOD NO! Getting the crap scared out of me is not my idea of a good time.

Also repeating extensive sections of a game because I died...screw that.

Grinding out levels too. Very boring. It's something I struggled with a fair bit in Octopath traveller a while back and that's far from the worst offender.

Large open world games that is far to big for it's own good. I prefer semi open world games as it takes the combination of both open and linear world game design.

Actively? Escort quests. I'll do a hundred fetch quests before I do a single escort quest where I have to walk next to a slow, plodding NPC that wants to stop every 20 feet and make some comment about the lore or the environment or quest or whatever.

Passively? In-game cutscenes where you're still in first-person perspective but you have control taken away from you so you have to just watch. Half-Life came out in 1998 and showed us how to do immersion well, and we're STILL doing this in our games. We have a better option and developers still insist we do things in a regressive fashion.

Grinding in JRPGs. Bosses in most JRPGs can be defeated if my party at a certain level other than what weapons, spells, or tactics they use. Defeating a boss character does not require skill.

Another least favorite thing is watching loading screens even if the game is digitally downloaded.

Quests in a game where you are sent across the map to talk to someone and then they send you right back again to the person who originally sent you.

When you take an action and suddenly everyone in the entire game instantly knows about it and holds it against you, even outside of the community where it happened and even by people outside of the community, people that may even be opposed to that community are still somehow upset by it.

Very obvious rubber banding that circumvents your gameplay skill in order to artificially limit how far away you can get from a dangerous situation or to limit how close you can get to an objective.

Overly complex skill trees where the player is given too much freedom. I don't have hours to spend deciphering the Rosetta stone of upgrades. Just let me play your effing game and also not every game needs a character creation. Why can't these developers just make a character for us to play as? You don't see Zelda pulling this in any of their games.

Cinematics and talking. You know, typical Sony stuff.

Reminds me when I tried God of War. It never let me play. After a long boring time with walking, talking and quick time events I looked at the clock and saw that 2 hours had gone by. **** that game. Could've watched an actual movie or played an actual game.

Crafting and survival mechanics with colour graded loot. This is in nearly every game.
