PS3/ SNES/PC
Switch is up there. I love it that after so many years, when console's future is more and more uncertain, we got a GOAT system.
PC is not a console...
PS5/XSX not there yet but we all know at the end of the generation PS5 will break top 5
@judaspete: The PS2 also holds the record for the most shovelware too.
Sony was giving out game licenses on the back of cereal boxes back then and there was a boat load of terrible devs making terrible games. It was most bought for its cheap DVD player too. Yes it had great games, but didn't touch the Dreamcast imo.
For my money, the first PlayStation. That thing started off so many legendary series, and has some of the best entries in a few to this day.
Well since you put PC in the list. Nothing really remotely touches except for the old consoles like PS1 and SNES, and that's even if we soft-lock PC to each console generation (for example using only PC games from 2020 to 2023 for this gen).
It's an absolute titan.
All this is for overall libraries, so of course PC.
In terms of still relevant today for old consoles, I’d say PS1.
At the time you could argue PS2, but too much emphasis on 3D games and most of those games have aged like shit.
Even though I preferred other consoles, their overall libraries were lacking, but the PS1 had a uniquely balanced library. It’s not my favourite console, but I’m still fascinated by it.
Today all 8th and 9th gen consoles should get a shout out because of the digital library. There’s a lot more on offer. Adds a lot of balance.
By including PC we're basically doing ~30 great games vs. 30.000 great games. No contest.
But if we're talking consoles, I've owned the most games that I've liked for the GameCube, so that probably wins for me.
Series X/S, RetroArch.😎
That's cheating. :P
One system that I have been fascinated with lately is the N64. So many awesome, niche titles, prime Rare titles, great FPSs, top-notch platformers, and a lot of hidden gems that few people talk about these days but still hold up for their oddity of experience.
It’s certainly not the best console, not even Nintendo’s best by any stretch of the imagination, but it is becoming one of my favorites for playing the early 3D games, especially considering I mainly played PS1 during that era.
