What's your favorite Mario game?

The entire franchise, from Super Mario Bros. NES to....whatever the latest one is. Lost count.

Probably unpopular opinion, not the least of which for the fact that it didn't even start out as a Mario game, but my personal fav is Super Mario Bros. 2. I know, weird. I just love how odd the whole thing is, surreal even, which makes sense as it is literally a dream Mario is having. Genius, pure genius. Plus, it has the dopest enemies from any Mario game, by far.

Probably SMG1.

In this correct order:

1. Super Mario World (my first ever Mario game)
2. Super Mario 64 (still da Goat Mario)
3. Super Mario Bros. 3
4. Luigi's Mansion (it's still part of the Mario universe, so of course I'm gonna include it)
5. Super Princess Peach (as above, part of the Mario realm)
6. Paper Mario 64
7. Super Mario Sunshine
8. Super Mario Odyssey
9. Mario Party 3

Between Super Mario World & Super Mario 64, my favorite and still to this day is Super Mario 64! There's literally no game from 1996 that's aged better than Mario 64, but that doesn't mean it's a perfect 10/10 either. The game has its flaws but has aged better than most 3D games from the late 90s.

Super Mario World. That was the only one I played to completionist levels... Everything else has been a play through and move on.

3, World, Galaxy 1+2, and 2. The other ones I can take or leave. NSMB2, SML, SML2, were fun also and stand out to me, but don't hit the level of the above. It would be cool if they went back to Saradaland...

Galaxy 1

I enjoy returning to Super Mario World and Super Mario bros 3 the most, they perfected 2D platformers.

As for the 3D games I enjoy New Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Sunshine, I've yet to try Super Mario Bros Wonder.

Shout out to Kaiju Bowser as well, that game was fun from beginning to end.

It was a nice surprise for Nintendo to return to an older game and update it with something entirely new.

Super Mario world for me was incredible the pinnacle of platformers.

All time fav Mario game is Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

Still don’t think SMG 1,2 have been topped. The introduction of gravity into platforming has yet to be beaten.

Super Mario World (on the SNES). It's also my favourite game of all time.

Tough to pick though as most all of them are top notch games.

SMB Wii was the last Mario I played, and that was for maybe twenty minutes.

I would have to go with SMB world. But 3 was awesome too.

I was a Mario fan growing up playing the Italian plumber for the first time in Donkey Kong on Atari 2600, Super Mario Brothers on Famicom, and Mario64 and Mario Kart 64 on N64 emu in 1999. Mario 64 was a particularly enjoyable game that I finished multiple times.

I played Super Mario Sunshine GameCube game and Galaxy games of Wii but didn't finish them as they were utterly boring.

Being an adult, I didn't wish to play Super Mario 3D World of Wii U and Super Mario Oddysey of Switch. But my 3 year old kid insisted that I play with him, and I found these two games massively enjoyable. Bowsers Fury was also a good game but it was a bit short.

Mario Wonder has one of the best animations in a Mario game. Seeing some of the animations esp. the Pirhana plant song made me think out loud that someone give this game an Oscar.

Here is my ranking of Mario games that I have played.

1. Super Mario Odyssey

2. SUPER Mario 3D World

3. Mario 64

4. Super Mario Wonder

5. Bowsers Fury

6. Mario Kart 64

7. Super Mario Brothers

I go back to Mario 64 the most.

"For what it's worth, that is the All Stars version. They tried to bring it up to parity with World. It has more visual noise and color saturation, but I don't think these are improvements. Look at that garish melon sky, like Liberace was the art director. I prefer the austerity and cleanliness of the original. More is not always better. Plus there are changes in style/concept I don't agree with, for example:

"Two different vibes here. Often (in fact, most of the time) when game developers remake a game, they go for the most obvious, literal re-imagining of the visuals. Anyway, the best Mario game is 3. Never really got into the 3D games.

I like most Mario games. But one gave best memories with friends.

One of the best games ever, imo. Really, choosing only one Mario game ain't easy.

Same dude, I always play the original when going back to SMB3. The other one looks wrong.

Can i have both Banjo games over any mario? Way better titles in every way.

I think I've never played Tooie, actually. Probably should.

The modern ones are abit too easy. But I enjoyed The 2.5 games find incredibly boring. Even Sonic is better.

But enjoyed Super Mario 3D Land.

So hard to only pick one, but I'd probably go Mario Odyssey. To me, it has nearly everything I want in a Mario game.

Definitely the first Banjo game on N64 is still a mega-hit cult classic I always go back to play on Rare Replay. Tooie is good, but man, that game has the largest sandbox, there's more stuff to collect and get. Back on N64, it took me 3 months to beat it due to being tedious. Fun game but tedious.

I've never played the Gameboy Advance version of Banjo/Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge.

And finally, we have Nuts & Bolts. Nuts & Bolts main issue was that it was released after an 8 year gap since Tooie (not counting the GBA game which naturally people had lower expectations for from what I've heard) had a real Banjo/Threeie released in say 2004 than Nuts & Bolts released as a spinoff 4 years later it would be way better received. I like Nuts & Bolts, but fans like me wanted Banjo/Threeie like Rare had promised after Tooie.

I don't know, i find them equally as good, its like one game to me.

i drifted away from mario the older i got so for me peak mario is super mario world. can't pretend nostalgia doesnt play a huge part. just hearing the music instantly transports me back to my early snes days. i remember the first time i found the secret area of cheese bridge by flying under the finish, swooping up and hitting the secret finishing line. i couldn't believe what i'd found. oh the wonder of being 10 again and having an amiga and snes
