Poll What's your favorite PlayStation console? (65 votes)

PS1 35%
PS2 26%
PS3 18%
PS4 6%
PS5 9%
Don't like PlayStation. Just want to see results. 5%

PlayStation has quite the history. Lots of dope games. Every PS console has a different feel to it, so, which is your favorite?

For me, it's PS1. Just too many classic games. I could just play the PS1 library for the rest of my life and be happy with it. Seriously.

And, yes, I'm letting my inner cow do jumping jacks.

This thing, I love this thing
This thing, I love this thing
These things, I love these things
These things, I love these things

Yeah I agree with PS1. So many good RPGs, hidden gems and weird games. Tons of fan translations for games that were exclusive to Japan. PS1 library is deeep. So glad there is a MiSTer core for it so I can really explore the library.

PS1... PS2 probably a close second. Many of my favourite games are from pre-PS2 gens.

PS1 by a long shot. RPG classics like FF7 to 9, xenogears, chronocross, legend of dragoon to name a few.

Kind of a toss up between the PS1 and PS2. For the sake of the poll I’ll go with the PS1. Some of my favourite games for that system were:

- Chrono Cross

- Resident Evil 1 and 2

- Metal Gear Solid

- Xenogears

- Final Fantasy VII and VIII

- Breath of Fire 3

- Legend of Dragoon

Have to go with PS3, I had the ps1 and loved it, but it was until i got the PS3 and could buy games with my money that i started getting those ps1 and ps2 games that i had always wanted; also my favorite game of all time released for it (Valkyria Chronicles).

I don't have a favourite one, I own all of them except 5 and I have found all of them to be underwhelming.

But if I was forced to choose 1 it would be the PS1 because of FF8 alone.

Lol. Then the old, fat PS3 does it one better since you get perfect compatability with PS1, PS2 and PS3 games.

I have a minority view here as my favorite console is PS5.

The traversal, loading times, and visual quality of SP2, Ratchet, and other exclusives makes for an exhilarating experience that can't be matched with previous consoles.

PS3 had its moments.

  • Great online store for the time. I was in college and there were some great games you could grab for cheap and play with friends. Small devs getting their games on consoles was a bit of a revelation.
  • Tons of media capability. I streamed sooo much stuff to it via DLNA. Had my entire music and video library right there.
  • You could put Linux on it for a while. So that's cool.
  • Backwards compatability was a big one for me and why I specifically looked for one of the early models.
  • Dark Souls (I fkn love Souls so YMMV on that one lol)
  • Great Ratchet & Clank games
  • Some good RPGs like Ni No Kuni, Valkyria Chronicles, and Trails of Cold Steel
  • 3D Dot Game Heroes is a deep cut by FROM

Honestly it was a very interesting console for the time. Also a pretty interesting console right now since the homebrew scene is fairly active. I can even load PS1, 2, and 3 games from a network share.

PS3. It was kind of a bridge between old-school and modern game design. AA level games still existed (at least at first) and digital distribution brought about the indie scene. Early days of DLC tended to be cool stuff, before things got exploitative. And this was arguably Sony's best first party offerings, before they started leaning too hard into cinematic action games.

I'm going to say PS2, it had a huge leap from PS1 and had a huge library of video games also the first Sony console that had online gaming.

PS1 is so good its made Nintendo lose its dominance.

PS2 feels like a proper generation. It started out with 3D platformers but matured over the years. It started out as an offline console and by the end 20-30% was gaming online. It's a generation that truly had everything.

PS3 was the first one I owned, traded blows with the 360

PS4 is my favourite one so far. I really like the selection of games on there. From God of War, TLOU 2 to Ghost of Tsushima.

PS5 has some nice perks but has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too few games.

PlayStation 2; my fondest memories are with that console. But, the original PS3 was magical as well. The graphical leap was just outrageous. I remember the first time I booted up the system (circa 2007) to this very day.

god that's a very very hard choice. sony been awesome every gen. ups and downs in each but man they deliver great games. reason they over throne nin. it took the switch to get back in the race. even the disaster starting ps3 turned into a great console in the end.

If i am just limiting the systems to their native games then the PS1. Many many classics. Mind blowing at the time. Going from the snes to the PS1 was a real jolt. Very nice hardware for the money too and a nice controller (especially the original Dualshock). That boot up sound and the original Wipeout are the embodiment of PS at it's best imho.

If i was to go by the system as a whole: I dont know what the BC situation is on PS4 and 5 so i'll go with the launch PS3. PS1, 2 and 3 compatibility all in 1 box is a nice collection of games. I am very critical of the PS3s hardware but no shortage of games to play on it. You could also install Linux on the original PS3 which was cool. I did it: it ran like crap. But still cool to be able to do it. I think there was an application that allowed you to stream PC games to your PS3 also (Stream My game i think it was called) which was neat. A shame Sony pulled support :(.

I haven't owned a PS4 or 5 so can't really rate them.

PS1s library is mesmerising. That 5th gen was the best.

PS2 gave up on 2D games too much for my tastes. And even though I'm a retro gamer, I just have very little interest in it.

As a console that stands the test of time, the PS1 is the best.

1 PS1 - Best, most unique PS library

2 PS2 - Library became slightly less unique. Ugly console. DVD drive inclusion was key

3 PS4 - Meh average PS console. No identity. Soulless library

4 PS3 - Worst controller I’ve ever used. Cell processor held back the console. The OS and PSN were a chore to navigate

5 PS5 - No games. Huge and ugly.

This is a fact.

Sony actually over delivered with PS3. People only talked about the $600 price tag but that actually system was arguably worth $1000 in 2006.

The TONS of features that you had to pay hundreds of dollars on Xbox 360 to make it equal to OG fat PS3 always went over peoples head.

Hell the FAILED HD DVD was a $200 add on for 360 that DIDN'T benefit that actual games for the system! That's just 1 thing.

Let's not forget mind FREE online, FREE dedicated servers, HDMI (not native to Xbox360), high quality Bluray player out the box ($1000 for just a player alone on consumer market), region code UNLOCKED allowing the import of foreign games, allowed for 3rd party harddrives to be swapped out (MS originally forced low space expansive MEMORY CARDS to add space with 360) FULL & total backward compatibility with PS1 & PS2 libraries...ect.

Amazing system that will never be as open, expansive & feature filled due to criticism and being underappreciated.

Without backwards compatibility - PS1

With backwards compatibility - PS3 (early model)
