Why didnt Dead Space Remake get the same backlash as TLoU Part 1?

Now I'm all against pointless Remakes/Remasters. Unless these things bring up substancial changes to gameplay/visuals like Resident Evil 2 Remake or FF VII Remake, I'll convictly affirm they're nothing more than pointless cash grabs made to squeeze gullible fans. I was against it with TLoU Part 1 and rightfully so.

Now what I cant understand is why we dont see the same backlash against Dead Space Remake. Watching the most recent trailer is just the same game but slightly prettier. Thing is, the game already looks good, even by todays standards. It was a looker back in the day and it still holds up pretty great now. The same criticism people pointed out when it came to TLoU Part 1 can be applied here aswell. Same game but slightly prettier. Not enough to justify yet again full price.

So, why is that? Is because one is a PS exclusive and the other is not? Please explain

TLOU was remastered for the PS4 and Deadspace remained a PS3/360 game for console gamers. What is there to really ponder?

It's a far older game that didn't already have a remaster like TLOU did. Also hard disagree og Dead Space looking good by today's standards.

Anecdotal I suppose, but I've seen the same exact criticisms laid at Dead Space.

Maybe not quite to the same degree, likely because

1. TLOU being a 1st party title, brings out the fannboys/haters.

2. Dead Space isn't as popular, less chatter.

3. Dead Space isn't nearly as recent a release as TLOU and hasn't already had a remaster since.

TLoU remaster is a pretty new game while Dead Space has had more time between the original and this remake.

If this was the SECOND time Dead Space had been made in as many generations of consoles, then people would be bashing it.

@vatususreturns: Dead Space Remake is actually getting backflash but not as heavy as TLOU Remake is to say the least but it is getting backflash nonetheless. I would go to TheErotica Dead Space Remake thread and you'll find more answers there. Doesn't hep the fact Callisto Protocol is coming out soon, so that makes Dead Space Remake a waste of time.

I think gamers tolerated remakes/remasters last-gen but this gen, I think they have enough of this trend and all these upcoming remakes/remasters is an excuse for developers don't want to make something new.

Probably because TLOU was already remastered and, its 5 years younger lol.

Either way, I'm ok with both. Not every game needs to be remastered or remade for the exact same reasons.

It does look like the Dead Space remake is updated more (for example the zero-G mechanic is what they used in 2 and onward and not the lame "jump from point to point" in 1) but I agree that it should look more significantly different. TLoU looks like a next gen upgrade of a game that was out of the previous two gens, and they want $70 for it.

Even tho i am extremely against TLOU1 remake, i think that after TLOU2, no matter what ND releases, it will get shit on. Almost Blizzard 2.0 at this point.

Dead Space looks like a bigger overhaul than TLOU.

Most of the environments in TLOU looked the same, like they only focused on characters and lighting.

Dead Space is also adding new dialogue, side quests, characters, etc.

Because it's older and people have nostalgia for it. I think the remake is worthless they should of just made a new Dead Space game but that would actually require work. They went the easy route because taking risk is something the gaming industry is scared to do these days.

@vatususreturns: TLOU was released, in various forms, about five different times. Also, despite the added features, it was missing multiplayer, which was a much-loved aspect of the original game. On top of that, it came with a 70-dollar price tag. It also wasn't much of a remake; the visuals were underwhelming.

So basically, you have this game that is less than the original version in terms of content, and despite being many years old and having four other versions on the market, somehow costs as much as a brand-new AAA game.

Dead Space, on the other hand, has only been released one time many years ago.

Plus Dead Space was a dead franchise, so this is a chance at new... life. Sorry. Mainly what other people said; it's older and Callisto already undermined it.

Personally, I don't think there should be any remakes after PS2 era, but I also don't like Marvel, so I guess I'm a weirdo.

TLOU 2 recently released, TLOU 1 has a ps4 remaster.

The old dead space games were stuck for gen 7 platforms excluding the PC.

Cause The Last of Us being the consensus GOAT of video games makes ppl butthurt.

Also, TLOUP1 looks phenomenal, one of the best looking games on console. Dead Space remake looks just like the PS3 version. I am pretty sure my 2009 gaming rig had better graphics.

It did, not sure where you've been. Not on the same scale as TLoU of course, since it's more popular than Dead Space. Not rocket science dude.

Then there's the fact that they've released TLoU several times in just a few years. Dead Space came out 14 years ago.

1 - TLoU already had a recent remaster.

2 - People have absolutely no expectations from EA.

3 - Where they stand right now a remake is a step up from another FIFA or Anthem.

Having said that a remaster for DS1 would be more than enough. The game looks and plays great even today.

Seems like someone has a thin skin. TC be like leave Sony alone. But to answer the question:

1. It did receive a backlash and people have raised objections to it

2. It's much older than TLOU and didn't rereleased already on PS4, hence less backlash

3. Same like how DS didn't receive a backlash for a remake. So definitely not because it's made by Sony.

To me there wasn't that much difference in the visuals of The Last of Us and the Remastered. The original was already visually beautiful. I guess to really see a difference you will need to buy better hardware? Like HDR? But still not sure if that would make a HUGE difference. Not worth it

The Resident Evil 2 and Nemesis were understandable since the originals were on PlayStation or ps2 graphics.

Original Dead Space also looked fantastic. If the remake makes it to ps plus then I'll replay it. Not buying though

three times.

and nope, game looks stunning. huge improvements over the ps4 remaster. borrowed it off my brother in law and the visuals are not something you can criticise the remake for. it's a seriously gorgeous game.

aging gameplay, ultra linearity, lack of mp and cost are fair game though

Dead Space is about five years older than TLOU, Dead Space remake didn't cut out content like TLOU remake did, Dead Space isn't readily available to play with great graphics and controls on PS4/PS5 like how TLOU already was.

Plus they actually changed shit. The zero g shit they showed for the remake is more in line with Dead Space 2, and if the core game feel has been adjusted then that means melees functionality should be more in line with DS2. After that its a matter of if they were willing to improve the encounter designs to get on par with DS2 also.

The Last of Us remaster the 2nd time, is just the same ass game its always been but prettier. The most noteworthy change is the accesibility shit. It's that much more of a cash grab.

My count is 2. The remaster of the ps3 version on ps4, and the remaster on the ps5. The ps4 version getting “enhanced“ while playing it on the ps5 doesn’t count as a remaster.
