Worst remaster/remake you have played?

It's going to shock you, but for me... it's a Nintendo game.

Does it run horrible? No. The framerate is better than the 64 original. Does it look bad? No. Like OoT 3D, it had a beautiful (at least, for 3DS) upgrade.

Why do I hate it? Well, remember (god I hope that wasn't forgotten after the Disney buyout) when George Lucas kept on revising the OT of Star Wars? It's as bad as that, if not worse. Too much has been changed like how Link gets the Bomber notebook (which I understand is to get quest logs easier, but... being in hand by the Happy Mask Guy? That's not creepy at all...), how Zora Link swims, and worse are the boss fights.

It did fix it's most notorious problem from the N64 original: the saving. But beyond that...

Mafia remake. everything about it worse than original except graphics.

otherwise I always found remakes betterr than oiginals. RE4, RE2.

Don't think I've played any terrible remake or remaster. Wasn't very fond of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, though. Ugly graphics and just not as interesting to me as other FE games.

Some look terrible. Like that XIII remake. Or TMNT Re-shelled.

I don't waste my time or money on the massive majority of re-whatever, so the ones that i've played were actually good.

Quake II is by a country and a mile the best remaster played. Benchmark.

On top of that, it was free of you owned the OG.

Worst? GTA "Give me money now" collection. Scam.

Remake? Prob RE1 or RE2. Though lean towards RE1 because it has less flawed to it and signicantly improved the OG game, while still prefer the OG RE2.

Worst? Guess didn't like Twin Snakes.

I guess I would say Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Reshelled. Just didn’t have the charm and heart of the original.

Final Fantasy X on the PS Vita. It just wasn't my cup of tea. I only played it for a few hours.

Probably FF8. They only remastered the characters and monsters. Everything else still looks like the original

I don't know if it's the worst one I ever played, but I didn't like what they did to the combat in Samus Returns. It ruined the feel and the exploration of a game that I originally loved.

I'm not into Pokemon but I think the way they changed the combat in that Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu seemed terrible. I think it was a remake of Pokemon Yellow?

@blamix: Yeah the ports of 7-9 to newer consoles, the backgrounds were still 240p and terrible looking. If you want to re-play those look for the AI upscaled ones like the "FFVIII Graphical Update Mod"

@Litchie: I see you mentioned XIII. The XIII remake was bad for more reasons than just the visuals, which were worse than the 2003 original I played on PS2. Definitely the worst remake I recall recently.

RE 2 Remake. I just hated playing the game over again. FF7 was also terrible for me. Basically I hate remakes Because I can’t get into them. I get all excited, buy them, and never play them.

I take it Ghost of Tsushima and GTA 5, and Uncharted 4 don’t count as remasters because I did enjoy those.

Halo CE anniversary and MCC. I didn't even play anniversary, because I hated the updated graphics, and the multiplayer was built off the reach engine (insanity). And the CE multiplayer portion of MCC was basically unplayable for years. It's better now, but still not good enough. It will forever baffle me how Xbox has regularly, and repeatedly sh!t on the one game that started it all.

RE 2 Remake

Saints row 3 remastered on Xbox had to disconnect from Xbox live to play the game without crashing.

I've only played 3 remasters in Shenmue 1 & 2 and Final Fantasy 8 and enjoyed them, so none have been the worst.

On a side note, the walking section in Shenmue 2 near the end of the game did my head in, hated it soooo much.

The Ratchet and Clank collection on ps3 has some visual issues and the frame rate takes a hit when there's alot going (more problematic in later games)

Kingdom hearts collection on ps3 - kh2 is locked to 30 fps. Someone should go to jail when a remaster doesn't run at 60fps.

I don't think I've played any of the truly bad ones, like the prince of persia collection.

I pretty much stay away from remasters unless I need to re-purchase an older game. With some exceptions, remasters are inherently garbage for me; I game on PC, I have mods to use and settings to tweak, community content, not to mention PC is more or less infinitely backwards compatible thanks to the digital medium being more or less 100% adopted.

Can't say I've played a bad remake, though; Dead Space was great, Black Mesa was great, System Shock was great.

We need more remakes, fewer remasters.

Shin Megami Tensei 3 remaster, feels more like a bad port than a remaster and also has less content, that obviously they sell as DLC.

Bionic Commando Rearmed.... A legendary nes game with such awesome gameplay... The remaster felt soulless...

Wtf, why? Maybe I'd understand if I had played the OG which I have not, but I found RE2R to be pretty great.

I don't doubt it. They seem completely clueless. They removed the cool style it had which made the original stand out a lot, and instead made it look like a bad and generic FPS. They didn't get new customers, and they pissed off the fans.

Its soundtrack make its beautiful. its relaxing after action packed fight segments before.

Shenmue 1 and 2 are masterpieces. sadly shenmue 3 suck after decade and series didnot continue.

@dimebag667: Lets all hope they do a proper next gen Halo remake. Make the 2001 original look and feel like a 2025 game.

FF7 Remake

Worst remaster I played was FFX HD on PC. It's basically FFX with a texture mod. The thing is still locked at 30fps. Thankfully, I played it via Gamepass and didn't outright buy it.

Halo CE true remake is probably one of my top 10 most requested remakes... Just behind a handful of Metal Gears and Final Fantasy's

XIII Remake was pretty abysmall.

GTA trilogy.

Master Chief collection at launch and for about the first year was pretty bad.

Toy Soldiers HD. The color balance was off, the controls were awful, the online was broken, the game had vehicle respawn issues. I still have the Xbox 360 entitlements and they play much better through the Series X BC enhancements than Toy Soldiers HD does, overall look and play much better as a game.

Fairly impressed with the Tomb Raider Remastered collection but not quite Nightdive quality.

Main issues

- Complete lack of any PC options

- Classic mode capped at 30fps with no texture filtering options

- AI hasn't been enhanced, still quite stupid

Otherwise very good job at a reasonable price, easily one of the best played outside of ND.

TLoU Remastered on PS4.

The game was an absolute train wreck technically. Bugs galore, some game breaking (AI).
