What an improvement over the first game.

User Rating: 9 | Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 PS5

Positives:

  • A massively feature-packed release compared to the first game.
  • Mechanically, this is a giant improvement over the last one.
  • Character roster feels pretty balanced, and it's great to see all the eras of Nickelodeon they've pulled from.
  • Slime abilities add some unique strategy to the gameplay.
  • All around, this just feels far more polished than the first game did.
  • The new roguelike campaign is quite fun and doesn't overstay its welcome.
  • Great visual design that's cute and colorful, as a Nickelodeon game should be.
  • Not only is the voice acting actually included from the jump here, but it's great.
  • Jimmy Neutron is in the game now...I'm just mentioning that because I love the show.

Negatives:

  • It is a bit weird that some of the characters were cut between the first game and this.

Consensus: Quite frankly, I don't think I even could've immediately predicted that "Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl" would've gotten a sequel. What's more, even as someone who liked the first game, I couldn't have predicted how much better this would be. It's much more featured-packed, and the fighting mechanics are FAR more polished. No longer does this feel like a "spammy" fighter to me, as it feels like I can actually be more creative with combos. In a way, the jump between these two games doesn't feel too far off from the jump between "Super Smash Bros." and "Super Smash Bros. Melee" (I know that sounds wild, but it feels that way to me). It feels like Ludosity was actually given a chance to let this cook instead of having to rush it out the door, and the result is a great fighting game. "Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl" is really coming into its own here, and I know I'm gonna get a lot of longevity out of this one.
