The best CRPG ever made
It would seem that Baldur's Gate was the only franchise that dared to start the player off at the same level and with the same character as where you left off in the previous entry. Hence, the whole franchise felt like a progressive transition. Most other RPGs would chicken out by making you use a whole new character and/or start you back at Level 1 for the sequel
A natural progression of a Souls game from medieval fantasy to Victorian/Lovecraft fantasy. May not be as original as Dark Souls or Demon's Souls, but enough of a masterpiece to make the list
While Demon's Souls kickstarted a new kind of genre, it was a little bit of an experiment. Dark Souls 1 is the full realization of what a 'Souls' game can do
Not as good as Dark Souls 1, but much better than Dark Souls II. Ranks up there with all the good Souls-esque games
The pioneer of a particular style of games with the Miyazaki touch
The only game of its kind when first released, being one of the best and most original and addictive at that time
Most people were disappointed when it came out because it took almost 4 years for a sequel to come out, and when it did, the graphics and gameplay already felt old and stale. It didn't feel like the game added 4 years worth of innovation or improvement to it. Nevertheless, it was better than Diablo 1 is every aspect, and nobody wanted to go back to Diablo 1. When we think back about old Diablo games, Diablo II is all people think about.
Not as good a CRPG as Baldur's Gate, but the best of its kind 10 years after Baldur's Gate
If you think Warcraft or Starcraft constitutes strategy (despite being called real time strategy), you obviously have not played this game. Only after playing this game, you'll learn that most RTS games are actually about micro-management, not strategy. The day when 6 Zerglings can kill 3 Protoss Zealots due to a surprise attack and morale factors, then we can say Starcraft is a true strategy game. But as long as 1 Zealot = 3 Marines = 5 Zerglings, it mostly remains a numbers game, hence micro-management. Dark Omen on the other hand, isn't so much about how many soldiers you have, but where to place them, how to attack and when to attack. Recklessness almost never pays off in this game....ever.
The best of the classical X-COMs. It has better music and atmosphere than even the first X-COM. It's only fault is being a re-skin of the first and having more bugs
