Played and Dropped

Basically just a list of titles I played and never finished for various reasons you'll find in the descriptions. There's been many over the years that I've tried to remember but they're definitely not all listed.

Game Release Date GameSpot Score Speeny's Score

Balan Wonderworld

Switch - I'm usually not one that cares about how a game performs or presents itself graphically, but this was just a train wreck in my eyes. I didn't even bother to complete the first level. A shame too seeing as it looked appealing initially in the announcement trailer.

Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness

Switch/PC - I really enjoyed what I played of this. Though, the gameplay just wasn't for me. Got a little bit too strategic.

Final Fantasy VIII

Switch - So, I definitely have mixed feelings towards this game. The events that took place in disc 1 I’d say were pretty good. A nice setup to put it simply. Promising beginnings for sure. But, the 3 discs after it I feel very conflicted about in terms of my overall enjoyment and just in general where the game kind of went with things from a storytelling perspective. It was, mostly boring. Another problem is that, when certain pieces of the puzzle started to add up, I just felt as if it didn’t fit with the aesthetic of the game. Like, it wasn’t contributing enough to the story to the point where you as a player felt satisfied or cared. Random you could almost say. The villain especially I didn’t think was menacing enough. Travelling around the world map is incredibly tedious and slow. Found myself running into dead ends constantly. It definitely feels much more empty than 7’s. By the start of disc 4, I couldn’t defeat Adel and I just thought that I’ve spent enough time with it to know that there’s no point in completing it.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

PS5 - I had high hopes for this title, as the trailer initially caught my interest. By the time I sat down with the game, I only played half an hour's worth and just wasn't feeling it. Simply put, it just felt like a generic next gen title that was cinematically all there, but lacked anything else to offer.

Nintendo Switch Sports

Switch - My sister and I were excited to play this in hopes for it to almost revolutionise what Wii Sports did. We were sadly disappointed. The controls is what really kills the experience for me. Even with the comparison between how a Wiimote felt in your hand compared to a holding a Joy-Con. There's barely any sense of you actually feeling as if you're being physically active while playing, hence there being no satisfaction at all. This game is a far cry from the original, to say the least.

Puzzle Adventure Blockle

Switch - Gameplay was fun enough. Though, the story just wasn't enough to keep me interested. Lost interest after completing a few worlds. Maybe half the game?

-- --

Sonic Mania

Switch - I picked this up off of Amazon on sale originally. After years of trying to get into the games, I just don't consider myself to be a Sonic fan. Even though I did enjoy playing namely Adventure 2, Heroes and Unleashed growing up.

--

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Switch - I wanted to like this game but I found myself aimlessly wandering around too much. Which, is what you're supposed to do right? I figure that open world games just aren't for me.

--

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Gamecube - There was nothing wrong with this game at all from memory. I was playing it for the majority of the time with a friend. But, we kind of just stopped playing it.

--

Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 4

PC - Unfortunately, there is just nothing about this game that remotely grabs your interest and keeps you engaged. The levels in particular just feel lifeless. The 2D side scrolling aspects are completely fine, but in terms of the gameplay...again, there's just nothing that makes it stand out. I feel as if this game would be more playable if it was consistently introducing you to new gameplay mechanics each stage. Such as maybe rewarding you with power ups and/or new abilities. But, there's nothing of the sort in this title. Slap this on mobile platforms? Sure. But, for this to be considered a mainline title is pretty questionable.

World's End Club

Switch - I was interested in this game when it was shown at one of the Nintendo presentations/Directs. Upon playing it though, I feel as if the gameplay wasn't what I expected and the pacing seemed slow.
