I will just say the three games that I bought along with my first PC back then.

1. C&C Red Alert.

2. Diablo.

3. Tomb Raider.

You can imagine why I stayed to PC for the rest years till today... :P

I didn't have a PC back in the 90's but I did played only one PC 90's game and that was Half-Life. Half-Life is the only game I ever play back in 1998 and it did change the way we play FPS games.

@pikachewbacca: Oh yes. Riven and Myst :-) I'm replaying Myst now, actually. They are tough - truly puzzle solving games, and they don't mess around about it.

Really, too many favorites for me to list them all :-(

The only known game from the PC I played was Counter Strike...such timeless graphic and excitement, and that game introduced me to gaming(I was quite a show for a kid who played this in public back then),if i want to replay it now. I'd rather play with bots who only swing knives. The rest.....does Sid Meier's Golf sim included? Because I have more fun with that,'cause back then I dont't have a PS1 to continue my gaming career.

Yeah, I did play Myst, notice how it is not on my list :P

Joke aside, Myst looked really good at release, but even though I liked adventure games, Myst often lacked emidiete responce, and tended to take to cake when it came to riddles, and problem solving.

I know many people consider it a watermark, but personally I did not like it that much. Personal oppinion though, I am not stating that the game was bad, just that it was not for me.

The original Half-life, Quake, Diablo, Starcraft, Jedi Knight and Tomb Raider come to mind as well as Planescape Torment and the then beautiful Unreal.

But my favorite 1990's PC game was definitely Doom 2.

I will try to keep the list as short as possible of the games that I played that I really liked:

Half-Life

Unreal

Quake II

Sin

Grim Fandango

Forsaken.

Moto Racer 2

Need For Speed III/II/I

Tomb Raider

Quake

Cybermage Dark Light Awakening

One Must Fall 2097

Raptor Call of Shadows

FX Fighter

Wacky Wheels

Rise of the Triad

Duke Nukem 3D

Jedi Knight

Of those the games I played and finished and played all they way through were Half-Life, Unreal, Quake II and Forsaken, FX Fighter, Raptor, Duke Nukem 3D, One Must Fall 2097 and I am trying to finish Sin and hope to buy the re-make of Grim Fandango. My favorite would have to be Half-Life, it was such a revolutionary game for it's time. Also, notice that many of those games came out in 1998, Half-Life, Unreal, Forsaken, Sin, Grim Fandango, Need For Speed III, Moto Racer 2. 1998 was quite possibly the greatest year in gaming in terms of the impact it had in the PC Gaming scene. I won't even go into the console world where there it too had revolutionary games that came out in 1998 like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or other PC Games that I haven't played that came out in 1998 like Thief. Other notable exception would be Quake II Mission Pack The Reckoning that came out in the summer of 1998 which I am playing through.

What surprises me is that I am still trying to play through and buy and finish playing games that came out in 1998! That's how good that year was.

I never heard of it. Virtual Springfield sounds like Hit and Run. Hit and Run was really fun on PS2.

WarCraft

The Command and Conquer games

Roller Coaster Tycoon

Duke Nukem

Lords of the Realm

Didn't really play PC in the 90's, but those are the games I remember. Of course since I've become more of a PC gamer, I've gone back and played some awesome games from then.

I never could get into RTS games. I wish I could, they look addictive but for whatever reason I just can't get past the learning curve and tutorials. I also found that I sucked at games like Stronghold. My little villages always got conquered.

Thats what I thought about RTS at first, then I saw CnC red alert at goodwill for $1. Picked it up and I love that game now.

@gameofthering: I love you! When I was a kid I remember playing a disc of pc game demos and I used to get frustrated that I couldn't play more because I would get into a few of them. One I recall had me going around a village in the rain conversing with an elephant... now that I've looked up your favourites I realise it was little big adventure 2!

Im also trying to remeber the name of a helicopter shooter that was on that disc. so basically a 1997/1998 pc helicopter shooter.
