Why did it take so long? It's been out for 3 years and got 7 seasons. I'd say it's successful, even. Ew!
Don't expect improvement for the next BF game.
Allow me to give some context:
In 7 seasons BF2042 still has received less post launch content than even BF V or BF 1, though the latter is not a fair comparison as it had premium.
People had to wait 1 year on some occasions and 6 months on another for a single new map.
To give a comparison: imagine if Arrowhead games released 3 new weapons for Helldivers 2, then stopped bringing anything new for 6 months, where you're just supposed to grind... jpegs. And then comes back to give you a single new map, rinse repeat.
Don't be blindsighted by numbers, don't be blindsighted by "season 7 is PACKED full of new content"
It's all a lie. This entire live service was disappointing to die hard fans (most BF youtubers have since moved on to another game, several die hard Twitter fan accounts got closed during this disaster) as well as casual gamers alike.
Yeah, it might have got much less support than more successful BF games, but it's still successful it sounds like. Which sucks. Game should've bombed after a year, not after 3 years with 7 seasons.
This was the only next gen battlefield to play on consoles. BF V or 1 never got a native PS5 or Xbox Series port.
With the way this engine is optimized, it wouldn't have been very hard to port, yet EA is only interested in its latest money maker (read: scam).
Finally, Battlefield V only got anti cheat around a week ago, so again there was incentive for people to stick with the latest one.
I payed 10 bucks to play the game (BF2042) for a few hours and I had to quit before my time was up, there was no way to play with friends, there was no way to have fun.
But that's the negative, and I like to focus on the positive: Thanks to the launch of Battlefield 2042 I had the opportunity to check out the revival for both previous games, their servers came back alive and the community came back together. It was so fun checking out operations again.
Lastly and I just want to make it clear that the post launch content for BF2042 was very economic, that is what allowed them to do this many seasons. Making 2 guns and 1 map in 6 months time isn't very time or resource consuming. I've seen mods bring more content in less time, and that's just people doing stuff in their free time.
