Suicide Squad looks about as well as people were expecting (63 metacritic)

I know why people don't really want to talk about Suicide Squad and trust me, I don't really want to either.

But seeing the difference between what they think gamers want in a game versus what makes games actually fun is crazy.

Have you read or seen any previews from this game, if so you can talk about the game here. Or not.

We already have a exceptionally well made suicide squad game, it's called Warhammer 40K: Darktide, and there's no question as to whether it's any good, it's fucking awesome, and you don't have to wait because it's out on Xbox and PC, and you don't have to weigh whether to buy it or not if you have Game Pass.

Nah I feel people are rather specific on exactly why they feel this game looks bland, soulless and the HUD/game is designed by commitee.

Yeah there are just so many excellent coop games to choose from. Just got done with Back 4 Blood which wasn't half bad.

I even liked Evolve, call me a Turtle rock fan why don't you.

I think on a big screen and with enemies flying people likely don't really care. Personally while I like my HUD clean, multiplayer matches where more info's on screen you can see and gain advantages is preferrable. it is multiplayer mindset and I think devs knows their audience. they are not making a single player game where environment storytelling is king.

It definitely has its pros and cons.

For example eventhough screensizes have gone up, I still applaud games like the Dead Space remake and Callisto that can do a lot with very little.

On the opposite side we have System Shock or like you said multiplayer games that have their UI elements there for good reasons;

Taking all of this into consideration: when looking at the shot that Acidtango posted: I'm damn sure that not all of this info needs to be displayed to the player at the same time. Some of it can be cut and I always think that taking away hud elements will add to the immersion, the feeling of becoming part of the game world.

Bland and soulless are pretty useless descriptors in gaming. The HUD being busy is at least specific.

Get what you mean about the UI, fucking games like Arma and Rogue Spear have less intrusive UI's like this.

I was a Turtle Rock fan with L4D. I think they needed Valve to be good though. B4B wasn't even close to L4D quality, and Evolve was heavily mismanaged. Both games had potential but dropped the ball, imo.

That's right, but just to clarify I'm paraphrasing and not the one critizing this game, as I'm not in the preview program, nor can I stomach watching any gameplay for this game. Not even when squinting and keeping one eye closed.

Gameplay reminds me of Sunset overdrive with none of the charm.

Just bouncing around in some drab and empty open world where you fire away at distant enemies who may or may not hurt you. Again, it worked for Sunset overdrive but this is just a weak spin off like it was cooked off the bones of 10 year old Sunset Overdrive;

This is just straight up UI vomit. I hope Rocksteady survives this so they can make an actual superhero game again.

I honestly don't think the UI is that bad.

My biggest gripe is just the fact that they throw too much text in the middle of the screen. It's 1000% better once it's not in your face and, I'm hoping it's only there to initially assist you. Ex. I don't need a description of "Suicide Strike" onscreen more than a few times.

This POS is a perfect example of modern gaming that deserves to be trolled into the ground, to the point that not a single PR team is able to save it.

@Nonstop-Madness: I'm counting over 25 different UI elements and stopped counting at that point; It's way overboard, but perhaps this game is appealing to a demographic that likes insane amounts of UI elements.

The gameplay could be fun as hell, but visually, just ugly to the point looking at it makes me not want to touch it.

Arkham City, how old is that now? That looks better to me. It's cartoon like, stylized.

Nothing excites me more than a game that is pretending to be not a live a service game but clearly launches with multiple seasons and content trinkling down to the end user planned.

To be fair, the hud can be minimized.

I'm currently watching the Royal Rumble preshow and they showed a trailer for this game, went for about 30secs and it was ALL cinematics. They sure are hiding the gameplay, but it did look like a Sony game, all flash and no substance.

Because IGN were't positive in their preview, they're not sending them codes to review the game🤣I don't think people are ready for this clusterfuck. This game will be worse than expected, and it'll show other devs that try to push these shitty games how a title is properly crucified on the socials. There's gonna be so much negativity surrounding this games from all the streamers and youtubers that even if you were kinda interested, you'll change your mind within an hour after launch.

Another title made by the execs and not game developers.

It always seemed like a baffling idea for this to use the Suicide Squad IP. Why not use something people like instead?

It would be legit nice to get a good Superman game. Even if it was just shitty copy paste of Batman combat probably still play it.

Ok just saw a second ad for the game, using real actors for 20secs and 3secs of actual gameplay then back to the live actors for the last 7secs lol.

I think they are scared of showing real gameplay as it'll get boring after 5 minutes anyway.

No review copies for this game, buy this one on "trust" or on Rocksteady's pedigree I guess.

Apparently no media outlets have received an advance review copy. WB have said it's because the servers won't go live until launch (today, I guess) and due to it's always online nature it would be impossible to review… buuuuut, normally it's a pretty big red flag when review copies are held back until release.

Fucked up servers for your SP game.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Studio

This game made me think about Guild Wars 2 (which is now about 12 years old, older than some GS users) and how magnificent its teaser trailer was in combining top notch art-direction with 3D models. Going so far as to having a stunning 1/1 transition.

And then look at this, where they are making realistic models for the sake of it, in what is a highly stylized genre, because the tech is their and how fucking horrible it looks.

You know that bit in the Simpsons with Homer Simpsons makeup shotgun? This game is the equivalent of that.

Vomit and shit rubbed all over your screen with animated dead corpses mimicking the living.

I see a lot of people somewhat upset the dialog of the game is condemning the game before its release. Okay, fine, I mean I'm not trying it out of blind faith. I'll need those who took the leap of faith and loved it to sell me on why I should play this though. I'm all ears.
