An interesting showcase showed up recently in the Summer Games Fest 2023 and it was from a studio that wanted to save E3 by travelling back in time to 1995 to inform the people in 1995 the future of gaming in 2023 with their game announcements. The look of the presentation was on point and well edited and it made it look like an old school presentation and it was really well done. Limited Run put up a couple of really good game announcements in their showcase with some of them being big shockers.

The first game announcement that was announced is Castlevania Advance Collection which is a collection of Castlevania games that has the three Gameboy Advance titles and also Castlevania Dracula X which is the SNES version of Rondo of Blood. It is going to have a physical release on consoles with Pre-orders that will be available on 28th July.

Rise of the Triad a violent FPS from the Doom era is getting a modern release on PC & consoles which will have HD graphics and updated gameplay and controls. It comes out on 31st July.

The next game announcement was a game called Koumajou Remilia Scarlet Symphony which is a game in the Touhou Project series of games but done in a Castlevania style game. It is getting a release on the Nintendo Switch.

Next was a collection of arcade games from Toaplan, Kyukyoku Tiger-Heli Toaplan Arcade Garage contains games Tiger and also the overseas version Twin Cobra for the NES, Mega Drive and also the Turbografx 16 versions. It will also have arcade title Get Star and the overseas version Guardian appearing in the collection which marks the game for release on consoles for the first time. It will be released in Fall 2023 for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

Before the very first Prince of Persia game there was a game called Karateka which introduced rotoscoping animation for the character sprites. This new release will include 4 different versions that came out on old consoles including all-new remastered graphics for the game.

Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition will bring the third Roller Coaster Tycoon game to the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2023.

The next remaster announced is one for El Shaddai Ascension of the Metatron but so far it is confirmed only for Nintendo Switch.

Dungeons of Aether is a tactical RPG releasing for the Nintendo Switch with pre-orders available from 14th July.

Shantae Advance Risky Revolution was a planned game for the Gameboy Advance before being shelved is finally seeing an official release with pre-orders this September.

Speedy Eye Software is working on a successor to the infamous Zelda CD-I games with Arzette The Jewel of Faramore. It will maintain the gameplay feel of the Zelda CD-I games alongside the hideous artstyle as well.

One of the most infamous and notoriously bad games of all time Plumbers Don't Wear Ties is being brought to modern platforms and all I can say is why? Who wanted that utter trash brought to the new generation of gamers? Please, no thanks. Even James Rolfe the Angry Video Game Nerd couldn't believe it. It will have pre-orders in September 2023.

This Way Madness Lies is a turn-based RPG with four magical girls with of them having different abilities to beat your enemies in turn-based battles. Coming soon to PS5 and Nintendo Switch with the Switch version coming out on 25th July with more info about the PS5 version and a physical release coming soon.

Midnight Fight Express, an isometric overhead beat em up game is getting a physical release which is confirmed for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions.

Colossal Cave an adventure game, is getting a physical release coming soon for consoles.

Another Crusade is an RPG inspired by games like Super Mario RPG where it implements timing-based mechanics to deal extra damage to enemies while also pressing at the right to reduce damage the enemies do to you. It is coming out soon for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S and also the Nintendo Switch.

Rose & Camllia Collection features remakes of five games in the Rose & Camllia series which started life as simple flash games. In it you play as a woman named Reiko who gets into slap battles with other women. This updated collection has two player mode and new song vocals.

Double Shake is a game inspired by old games like Mischief Makers and also Klonoa but the game has more of a 2.5D look to it like Klonoa and it looks really amazing.

Lastly a famous Youtuber who goes by the name of Modern Vintage Gamer has been busy working on the Carbon Engine which allows emulation of all school games so that they can be brought to modern consoles at ease. What has been announced for the Carbon Engine so far is incredible. Since River City Zero MVG has become a man who wants to see many, many classic retro games preserved for new generation of game consoles as well as other Japanese games that have yet to get an English release and he has done an excellent job at that.

First of classic games announced is the original Clock Tower which was a survival horror game that never got released outside of Japan before and it will come in 2024 for consoles for PC on Steam. A point & click horror adventure game where you are chased by the Scissorman who is out to kill and your have no choice but to run & hide from it. It is unconfirmed that this new release will be based on either the original Super Famicom release or the Windows or PlayStation releases which were also Japanese exclusive releases but it will have an early 2024 release.

Another Carbon Engine announcement is Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection where the Carbon Engine is collaborating with Universal to bring several 8-bit & 16-bit Jurassic Park games from the old school era. So far only the NES, SNES and GB games have been confirmed for the collection but they say they'll have more info about this collection coming soon. Pre-orders will be available on 1st September.

The next announcement was a big shock for many people. A PSOne platform classic Tomba (or Tombi for people like myself in the UK) is announced to be coming to the Carbon Engine on PS4, PS5 and also the Nintendo Switch as well.

The last game announcement was a big shocker as the Carbon Engine is bringing a forgotten mascot back with Gex Trilogy which will likely include the original Gex game as well as Gex Enter the Gecko and Gex Deep Cover Gecko in a single package. It will be released on PC on Steam and as well as for consoles.

So that wraps up the Limited Run Games Showcase and it was a fantastic showcase of game announcements. Easily the highlight are the classic games that will be running on the Carbon Engine like the original Clock Tower as well as Jurassic Park and also Gex Trilogy. Modern Vintage Gamer has really been so busy getting some of the classic games back so that they can be preserved for the next generation for new gamers to experience them. I do hope that MVG continues to support the Carbon Engine and I hope that the engine brings more forgotten classic games to modern platforms as well as other Japanese only games that people never got to see.

The Castlevania Advance Collection might be a night compliment to the, also L.R., Castlevania Anniversary Collection.
