That looks like a very genre-specific list. Death metal really came alive in the 2000's, some of the best ever albums came out between 2000 and 2010.

Only time will tell. Nirvana isnt my favorite band from the era, but kids are still wearin their shirts. Theyre definitely a cross generational group.

There was good stuff in the 90s, there is in almost any era. Todays music is a bit different though. In the past it was the people making the music, by comparison the software of today almost writes the music. Their was a piece about this on one of those network news programs, basically showing a computer writing melodies, or the "musician" becoming stumped as to where to take a song and showing how the program helps with decisions.

I grew up with a lot of what you listed and still love plenty of those bands. Black album is absolute garbage though.

Thing is, my son would have a very different list (even though he grew up listening to most of that list as well). My mom would have a list much different than both of ours and so on. Musical taste is usually generational.

I would actually go with the generation that gave us the Beatles, Hendrix, Doors, Rolling Stones, the Who and Zeppelin. Without them, your list may not even exist.

Smart Phones are a mistake, as far as I'm concerned. Leave the internet to desktops and laptops. Use cel phones for phone calls and texting. Unfortunately we stepped over the line there and doesn't seem to be any turning back now.

Social media for me is best for getting back in touch with friends you haven't seen in years but otherwise meh.

Ah, 1995, the year I graduated college (had been in the military) and the year people swarmed to the PC at Christmas after the release of Windows 95. Good years for me. And the beginning of some great years to be a PC Gamer with CD-Rom, 3dfx graphics cards, Pentium PC's and eventually 56k modem (haha)!

80s was the last great decade. Most of the bands listed in the OP are hot garbage or highly overrated tbh. Not to say there wasnt good stuff that would be silly ,but a lot of the best stuff was from bands who were already prolific in the 80s.

I'm no fan of Radiohead I just put them on the list because they where pretty big at one time in the 90's but at least they are real artist not like the trash today.

What was played on the radio and presented as mainstream and readily available? Yes. The 90's was the last great decade. The "artists" of today pushed as mainstream? Awful.

Yeah, I guess I love alternative electronic music from the 90's.

There is no best. There is only opinion. And if you want good music you have the internet find it. You won't find it in the business model......ie radio etc. But there is good and bad in every decade and genre. Happy hunting.

Don't mean to offend anyone, but in my opinion the 1990's were the decline of rock and roll. As months, years and decades passed,rock and roll has died a horrible death. Rock'N'Roll was greatest during the 50's,60's,70's and 80's. Nothing will surpass those four decade's of music. Country,rock,hard rock,heavy metal,even pop music wasn't bad from time to time. In my opinion,all music is just plain junk now,very few songs are decent nowadays.

I understand why you would think that at least when it comes to classic Rock. 90's was more alternative while 70's was pure rock. The 70's was the prime of rock I can see that. But I still believe that the 90's was last great decade of music as a whole and I agree music is junk now I never ever thought it could get this bad.

I grew up in the 1970's but I would still say the 60's was the best decade for Rock music even if just for the years 1966-1969, the artists and music output in those years was phenomenal and creative. And then there was Motown, which wasn't Rock but quite a force for most of the decade

But overall music I would give the edge to 1970's mainly because of the 1) Motown stars breaking away and making their best albums, like Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, and Marvin Gaye, 2) the emergence of funk and soul bands like Sly and the Family Stone, Ohio Players, The Commodores, Parliament/Funkadelic, and others and 3) the arrival of new wave, punk, and rap in the late 70's that changed music completely. Let's forget about disco and the crappy cheesy 70's pop songs.

The 1980's were very underrated, and that decade had something for everyone.

I don't deny there was great Rock in the 1970's, Back in Black came out when I was in high school, and was played at every frickin party!

Aerosmith (they were actually good then), Rush, Floyd, Zeppelin, Bowie, were the flavors of the day, but me and my friends jumped on to the punk scene and then the post-punk that led to some of the best music of the 1980's. Wasn't much into hair bands but I did appreciate the punky thrust of alot of Motley Crues early stuff.

Curious what peoples favorite 10 albums of the 90s were. 00s had some stellar releases, as well.

Metal had a wierd time during the 90s, with some great bands loosing their way, thrash metal in particular had a revival around 2010 onwards.

I grew up on 90's rock but I enjoy and listen to 2000's rock much more.

I used to think that until I discovered some new music away from the pop-thots and rags to riches rappers.

I agree 100%. That was the last of the analogue era when music wasn’t edited to a robotic nature and real performances were captured. Pro tools though it is a great piece of software ruined music.

Relating to video games, 90’s music in combination with gaming really creating that edgy, cool, mainstream medium that just exploded at the time. When I think 90s, music, and gaming, Fluke’s “Atom Bomb” defines the start of an era....just think of where gaming was before Gen 5 compared to after. It’s fitting that 90’s music helped shape it.

Cool video and song I love the oringal Wipeout that really takes me back someone need to remake Wipeout in unreal engine 4 with a first person cockpit view and make it VR.

There was also a lot of trash in the 90s. A lot of copycat bands, just like any era, really. The 90s just had a very strong image connected with them, and MTV didnt hurt, either.

00s were really when the "revival" kicked in, even though it began in the 90s, it didnt hit the pop scene until the 00s.
