Besides, this is changing the topic anyway.

No it doesn't change the topic.

If they don't even have the bodies to man the equipment it's burning money.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2024/02/08/ukraine-soldiers-shortage-infantry-russia/

The reports of acute troop shortages come as President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday replaced his military chief, Gen. Valery Zaluzhny. While their relationship had long been tense, in recent weeks one chief disagreement has been over how many new soldiers Ukraine needs to mobilize. Zelensky elevated Oleksandr Syrsky, the 58-year-old commander of Ukraine’s ground forces, to replace Zaluzhny.

Zelensky move to fire general leaves Ukraine guessing who will command war

The Ukrainian presidential office declined to comment, referring questions to the Defense Ministry, which in turn referred questions to the Ukrainian military’s General Staff. The General Staff did not respond to a request for comment.

Zaluzhny told Zelensky that Ukraine needs nearly 500,000 new troops, according to two people familiar with the matter, but the president has pushed back on that figure privately and publicly. Zelensky has said he wants more justification from Ukraine’s military leadership about why so many conscripts are needed and has also expressed concern about how Kyiv would pay them

.

The debate in Kyiv about mobilization — and to what degree the country should ramp it up — has angered soldiers on the front line.

Oleksandr, a battalion commander, said the companies in his unit on average are staffed at about 35 percent of what they should be. A second battalion commander from an assault brigade said that is typical for units that carry out combat tasks.

Modern equipment utilizes manpower more efficiently; a single person can do the work of five people when properly equipped, a single soldier can be as deadly as 10 when properly equipped. I believe these are called "force multipliers" .

Not just limited to people, either; attaching a GPS guidance unit to a bomb means you don't need to drop tons upon tons of bombs over a target, you just need to drop one bomb.

"If they don't have the bodies" is an argument in favor of giving them better equipment, not withholding it.

@sargentd: they have a population of 40 Millon. Lack of troops is not absence of people but absence of drafted people with the proper training to perform the required tasks.

That is why a larger mobilization is discussed.

If you consider that to be problem, you can ask your congressmen to support efforts to train their soldiers and technical personnel or to provide better equipment to increase the survivability of the current military troops.

Their current population is enough to field several million troops.

I dont live in Ukraine and they aren't even apart of NATO.

Why don't you write you congressman to go do that..

@sargentd: what I mean is that it's problem solved with resources.

It's not as you put it, a sign of inevitable defeat.

Russia is also lacking in infantry and hesitating to expand the draft for fear of political upheaval.

Why waste your time?

Yes, basic fact checking isn't fair.

Nothing to debate here. Maga are blocking aid, they support Russia, that's a fact. You support Russia, keep doing this lame hand waving "oh oh oh I just care about the peace, oh, and migrants", when all you have done, and are doing is repeating Kremlin talking points. All the hand waving, all the endless replies and videos and redirection just boils down to "give up, let Russia win", in a loop.

That's it. Not complicated. You've partially got what you wanted, people are dying because, guess what? Russia deliberately targets civilians. And now the tune has changed from "oh oh oh, it's anything but us".

Yes, it is. It is 100% MAGA who are causing people to die and Ukriane to lose small parts of territory right now. That's a fact.

It's not Russia awesome, it's not Ukraine suck, it's your peeps, changing the battlefield to skew it in Russia' favor.

China/Russia will be looking at this right now and thinking "god these people are fucking dumb"

Don't take my word for it. Here they are saying it

Most oppose to the current mobilization plans, because the military on the front lines are already running out of weapons/ammo, so more people won't change anything, that's just going into the ruzzian meat waves territory.

Ukraine has been given an obscene amount of military aid from my country.

But it is not infinite.

Maybe your country should fund thier war with Russia instead.

FFS Ukraine has been mostly given old, obsolete weapons the US would have to destroy otherwise. There is NO getting the sunk cost back but you would spend money to trash them.

It's like maga avoids facts at all costs. And yes, the US should help when something like an invasion happens.

And no, the majority of people are NOT against the aid. The tiny percentage of maga needs to realize they are not the voice of the US. You'd think all the lost elections would wake them up.

Has anyone been noticing Discharge Petition 9 per chance? In hopes to get SOME sort of Ukraine (mixed with aid for Palestine, Israel, and Taiwan) aid to surpass the power of Mike Johnson? Because...

AOC and her fellow Squad voted against SEVERAL aid packages for Ukraine even before Israel and Palestine were dragged into this by none other than Vladimir Putin. ALL the way back in 2022 Hell, US Progressives wrote a retracted letter urging Biden to stop supporting Ukrainian military.

Guess when Putin is on the "ceasefire" side for Palestine-Israel, and to get back at Biden for his response on 10/7, Ukrainian genocide is worth the cost to them.

Sigh...

I hope so. We have become such a depraved society in the west. People don't realize that sites like reddit don't allow for true conversation and is just a brainwash chamber. Gamespot has taken up that mantle too in its own way. I wish we could go back to 2007 where none of this filth existed in our society.

Putin has done more than anyone barring Hitler to expand Nato. The gwobawists are coming.

It should be noted that this doesn't actually they are required to partake in military operations. But it indicates further the shift of countries to Nato.

Where's the accountability? It's a total waste to send taxpayer dollars to a losing effort. That money would be better served fixing a broken US infrastructure.

From what I understand 80% of the weapons sent is money going back into the US to get better weapons i.e. replacing outdated, creating jobs for Americans.

Either way, disregard whatever a Trumpist thinks. Learned whatever they want, the opposite is usually "being good".

Glad to see the aid has passed. Under no circumstances can a fascist regime be allowed to expand their territory or power for any reason, let alone on the back of a completely empty justification. You would have to be incredibly naive to believe a Putin Victory would not have consequences for the stability of the USA.

They have major help to Ukraine and sadly unnecessary help to Israel.

But at least the Ukraine help will be very important to prevent Russian continuous advancement.

Well of course now Russia has responded to the US passing aid package and they are upset.

I love the claim that the aid package is "Russophobic" lol. Sure, sure Russia...it's "Russophobic"...and Russia is "Americaphobic". Moving on...

Ya this is really what it boils down to ultimately.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not stoked about sending billions of dollars worth of aid (money, material, supplies, etc) to fight a war, but American prosperity needs to be put to good use not just at home but in the world as well. A world that is getting smaller and smaller each day.

And, of course, if the US doesn't step in, other powers will fill the void. Powers that might be hostile to US and allied interests.

Video immediately opens with a man who put out disinformation and had a peace plan that was literally "let Russia win and give them everything they want"

Declaring everyone warmongers, but Russia. The war'ers, who mongered.

Asking a question, that was literally answered by Ukraine not being able to defend themselves from rocket attacks deliberately targeting civilians.

A Sarge video, then.

Though I do agree Lindsey is a slug. He has no side other the the one which is beneficial for him at the moment. But if it serves Ukriane, I don't care. Slug away.

Speaker Johnson from what I understand is privy to intel others aren't, had a meeting with Trump just prior, so it actually suggests your lord Trump gave him the go ahead.

Either way, the in-fighting of Republicans is great. An unexpected bonus. By all means, tear yourself apart. Have MTJ run around acting like a nutjob further eroding credibility like heat on ice.

I hope she keeps at it and doesn't stfu, it's great.

https://cepa.org/article/putins-propagandists-rage-against-the-republican-betrayal/

Kremlin mouthpieces are having a hard time explaining why a supposedly sympathetic US Congress has just passed a huge military aid package for Ukraine.

It seems like only yesterday Russia’s propagandists were rejoicing over the successful interruption of the US aid to Ukraine, reportedly at the behest of former US President Donald Trump.

The delay has undoubtedly cost countless lives and imperiled Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, left wide open due to diminished air defenses. Russian state TV had delighted in the destruction of the Trypilska Thermal Power Plant, the largest supplier of electricity to Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Zhytomyr regions, remarking that it will take years to rebuild it.

Celebrating the decline in Ukraine’s capabilities without American help, prominent propagandists started to refer to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson as “our Johnson,” in a similar vein to claiming Trump as their own, calling him “our Trump” or affectionately referring to him as Trumpushka.

When Speaker Johnson finally advanced the long-stalled aid package and the House approved $61bn of desperately needed foreign aid for Ukraine — including a measure to allow the sale of frozen Russian sovereign assets to help Ukraine’s war effort — the disappointment in Moscow was palpable.

During Sunday’s broadcast of Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov, Russia’s No. 1 propagandist Vladimir Solovyov took comfort by repeating his go-to nuclear schtick, describing himself as “a member of a small group of nuclear maniacs, the proponents of nuclear Armageddon.” He vowed that Russia would keep fighting and that the war or wars would continue for a long time. He surmised, “I believe that a war with NATO is unavoidable.”

Solovyov noted: “We are dealing with a cunning, systematic, and extremely brutal enemy. It’s not about negotiations. It’s either us or them.” He added: “What is interesting is how Biden totally broke Trump and his supporters. He utterly destroyed them! This is Biden’s unequivocal, brutal victory because, in return, he did not give anything to Republicans.”

Solovyov yelled, “Biden achieved everything! He apparently used backstage methods to lure to his side the man whom the Republicans chose to represent the House [Speaker Johnson.] He betrayed them! He totally betrayed them! Not us, we have no friends there . . . This is all you need to know about American politics. They’re traitors!”

Where's the accountability? It's a total waste to send taxpayer dollars to a losing effort. That money would be better served fixing a broken US infrastructure.

FYI under the Biden administration a US infrastructure bill was passed.

And yet most of America looks like a third world country with crumbling and abandoned buildings and terrible crime everywhere. It's flooded with illegals and drugs from Mexico, homeless families and prostitutes walking the streets in broad daylight.

Democrats have absolutely ruined this once-great nation.

weird.

just looked outside my window and all i saw were trees and well maintained homes and some kids playing outside.

maybe they were selling each other drugs though...

That's just your decent neighborhood before the shtf. Still one of the few semi-safe zones left in America.

America does not look like a third world country. You're also very naive if you think other countries don't have issues with drugs, homeless, and immigrants.

Look at the states that have been run by Republican governor's/legislation and you'll see they are listed as the bottom. Also when we have Republicans in charge of the country, we always decline. Democrats come in and fix it and the cycle repeats. Those are facts. Not your babbling because mommy and daddy told you how to think.

One of the differences with this package is long range weapons and air support. Jake brakes down simply how far ATACMS will reach, with a cameo appearance from beloved expert Scott Ritter.

@uninspiredcup: On a side note, I appreciate an acronym that looks like it could be pronounced, "attack 'ems" on a weapon.
