If inflation is down I haven't observed it yet. Prices are still very high in grocery stores, gas is still high in fact prices continue to rise. It all goes back to that old adage " Figures don't lie, but liars figure".

@JimB: Prices going down is deflation. We don’t want that.

@JimB: prices will not go down unless consumption crashes.

Inflation going down only means prices go up more slowly.

The federal government needs to stop their reckless spending. They are the biggest contributor to inflation. Prices are killing the average person and they are saying the economy is good and inflation is going down and we should feel good. Don't piss down my back and tell me it is raining.

If there is a change in pace in how fast the prices are going up, the inflation is going down. For stability it is considered a good thing that prices slowly go up. So there is a fall in inflation if prices are going up at a slower pace compared to before. But the prices are always going up.

At the same time, your wage should also go up each year. Otherwise your effectively taking a paycut each year.

So after a record rise in inflation in 2021 and 2022 we are celebrating a 3% increase? Americans have more debt than they have had in their history. This has been an absolute disaster.

My understanding is that if you got loads of debt, high inflation is actually a good thing. It reduces the value of your debt.

The problem is wages are not keeping up with inflation. The measuring of inflation does not use food or fuel in the inflation calculations, yet they are greatly affected by inflation. This administration has failed the people on all fronts. They regulation imposed on the farming and trucking industry have affected supply chain problems and the farm regulations affect the food supply. They are attacking the people. What Democratic nation attacks their own people.

Are you suggesting the government intervenes in the discussion about wages? Forcing a raise?

If labour unions were strong in US, maybe wages would keep up with the inflation.

If the min wage increased at the rate of inflation & productivity since 1960 it'd be $26 today—not $15. I’m glad the Biden admin did a good job slowing down inflation, but they are not willing to do what it takes to fix long standing issues the economy has had for decades.

Remarkable that Biden is unaware where he is, yet at the same time is the nefarious scheming head of state weaponizing the justice department against his political opponents.

Whatever is most beneficial for the narrative at any given moment, I suppose.

Not only is Biden ridden with dementia, constantly falling asleep and pooping his pants, he's also the mastermind of an international crime syndicate, raking in millions for he and his family members from countless foreign countries, somehow. Pretty amazing, isn't it?

International crime syndicate? No he just used his position of power to allow his unqualified son and his family make about 11 million dollars off foreign countries. He set all that up in 2013 before he was a vegetable 🤣. As far as weaponizing the justice department thst has more to do with the people he appointed. That was the issue with Biden. The far left would simply use him as a puppet and they have.

And here I was thinking it was late-stage capitalism, corporate greed, and a focus on infinite growth in a finite world that was the problem.

It's been the government this whole time!??!?!? Does everyone else know this? We should tell people.

/s

On a serious note, it's lack of government that is responsible for low wages. Lack of regulation. Lack of taxes on those that should pay more/are able to use loopholes. Lack of capping salaries for executives.

Lack of just about any sort of common sense regulation that 60+% of the population would approve of and pass if the system wasn't designed to work against us.

But it is designed to work against us...because of corporate lobbying.

@mrbojangles25: Yep. The complete dismantling of government regulations across the half decade has destroyed the economy, with the rich hauling off with almost all the money in the entire country. It sounds cartoonish, but it's actually what literally happened percentage wise.

The green agenda of this administration has had devastating effects on the average persons life. This agenda will produce zero effects as far as the climate is concerned, but will adversely affect our way of life. Of course the elite globalists pushing this will not be affected.

"Green agenda" is a job creator, money maker.

The trick is making it appeal to people without sounding "woke" which, unfortunately, is easy to do thanks to far-right brainwashing, emotional appeals of fear, and corporate-funded propaganda (case in point: you saying "elite globalists" like it's a conspiracy).

WTF are we supposed to do? Mine coal for the rest of our existence? Drill for oil like it is going to last forever? Keep doing what we are doing? That isn't working out so great for us working-class folks.

We can have our cake and eat it too: there is absolutely no reason we can't transition to net-zero emissions, employ lots of people, and make lots of money while doing it.

We just have to be willing to invest in our future and reach some compromises along the way (i.e. more nuclear plants to get us off burning coal and oil while we transition to renewables).

it's pretty fucking patriotic to want to be OFF oil.

why should we allow the world's balls to be in a vice controlled by nations who hate us? the biggest FU to countries like that is to get ourselves ( and the rest of the industrialized world ) off a product we can't control.

boggles the mind people can't see this.

Yeah that's more or less how I feel.

Also as other nations industrialize, they will pollute more. We need to transition for a lot of reasons, ie. having a moral high-ground to tell those countries to be cleaner, contribute less damage to the environment, etc.

I just don't understand why people, specifically the right, are so married to the idea of oil, coal, and gas. Is it just to "own teh libs"?

How exactly are government policies holding wages down?

The US has more oil that the Saudis' in fact when Trump was President we were exporting oil. As soon as this administration took over all of that changed. The elite globalist running the country saw to that. Biden is just a figure head not making any policy decisions. All the problems plaguing this country is because the elite globalist want it that way.

US currently may produce more oil than SA, but it does not have larger reserves. Additionally, SA's reserves are significantly cheaper to extract than the US's in many places so in order for a large chunk US oil production to be profitable, oil prices need to be high. Look at the impact SA has had by dropping production this year. They control the global price levers for the most part.

Adjusted for inflation, prices reached higher during Bush Junior years.

We were energy independent during the last administration. Oil prices were low and gas was $2.37 a gallon. The new regulations on the trucking industry all for green energy will put a number of trucking companies out of business, put the food supply in danger, and push inflation much higher than was the current rate. This administration is destroying the United States no mater how you spin it we are being destroyed by our own government.

US is still a net importer of crude oil however.

The term "energy independent" is encompassing of other sources of energy aside from oil, such as natural gas where the US is a net exporter. I suspect the term is used as a proxy for "net exporter of energy". When combining all energy sources together, yes, the US is a net exporter of units of energy.

https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/us-energy-facts/imports-and-exports.php

The energy independence stems mostly from the rise of natural gas production in the US and ability to export it.

Again, whether or not we're a net importer of oil or not is still rather immaterial because it is priced globally and so we ( and our allies ) are still subject to price controls enacted by other nations ( Saudi Arabia, Russia, etc... )

@MaroxadHow is housing prices in Sweden these days? Her ein Norway they are expected to fall a little towards the end of the year, however due to a massive drop in building new houses, the prices are expected to skyrocket once the interest rates start to go down again.
