@EPICCOMMANDER: US citizens have to worry about the strangest things XD Thanks for the clarification guys; always learning =)
You have no idea; my generation is the one that's going to have to pay for the 'baby boomers' that are currently retiring. Social security reform is one of the most HEATED topics in government legislature. Of course, recently it's taken a back seat to other issues, but it's basically expected for congressmen and presidential candidates to use 'social security reform' as part of their platform and have an opinion on it.
It needs some major retooling as it could soon become insolvent; this is of course among other more serious issues such as someone can steal your social security number obviously. Stealing it is also considerably easier to do now in the digital age where bank transactions can be done online and such.
@EPICCOMMANDER: Yeah, I was reading about that system and I "facepalmed" so hard I think my hand is stuck to my forehead now.
So basically it's a half-assed system that that was designed as a temporary "make do" that ended up staying for longer than it was supposed to just because nobody bothered to come up with something better? How ridiculous is it that people can steal your identity with a number? My Id card has ALL my numbers, social security, health insurance, taxpayer (probably wrong translation, no idea what you guys call it), etc, etc...all my personal data and a bloody chip on it with everything else...if I lose it, all I have to do is stop by to get a temp ID right away and wait a week for a new one. Minor inconvenience with no reason to worry.
