Hi, just wondering what you currently have and if you are planning to upgrade.

Currently I have a 2080 Ti, and I actually regret ever getting it.

I spent just over $1700 CAN for it when it first came out and thinking back, I was stupid to spend that much.

Sure the performance was nice coming from a GTX 1080 but for that much money totally not worth it.

I mainly bought it because I was hyped for RTX but so far only a handful of games support it.

I would love to upgrade to the 3000 series but I'm definitely not paying that much again.

I might get a PS5 and stick with my 2080 TI until the 4000 Series come out.

What about you guys?

I got a 2080 Ti at launch too. Sure, it was a ripoff, but I got it for my move to ultrawide. I had a 1080 Ti previously. I will most likely get a 3080/Ti depending on when they release.

Still rocking a 1060, so yeah going to upgrade. The RTX series just didn't seem like a worth while upgrade for the price.

When it comes to normal rasterized rendering maybe, when it comes to Raytracing performance its going to much faster. Its rumored that each tier is going to be 4x faster than previous RTX cards. So we might see RTX 3060 having on par RT performance as 2080ti. Their suppose to have 2x the onboard cache, have DLSS 3.0 (suppose to work with any game using TAA)

But at the same time these new cards are suppose to have much better vram compression and even include NVcache leveraging ram and SSD to augment vram.

Yea I have had my GTX 1080 almost 3-1/2 years. RTX series was a major letdown on performance. Having to spend nearly $800 for a moderate upgrade.......

Supposedly the RT performance is actually going to be good with Ampere. So, I may actually buy an RTX card for the RTX capabilities this time. Hehe :)

No I will build a new PC in few years. By the time I build a new one, Nvidia will have newer graphic cards by then. I'm happy with my RTX 2060.

Currently have 4770k with 1070Ti. Plan to upgrade to 4900X with 3070/3080.

For raster, sure, but RTX performance should see a huge improvement with next GPUs, so even a 3070 could do better with full RTX features enabled than the 2080Ti does now.

Not saying that isn't great, but with the current support in games, it's not what should be the deciding factor (for me at least) to upgrade.

I think so...i will see how things go. i currently have a R5 1500X, 16GB of ram and a Vega64. It's doing the job just fine for now but i'm thinking next year of replacing all of it with a Ryzen 4000 series (12 core/24 thread), 32GB of ram and a fast NVME ssd.

GPU wise i'm not sure if i will go the AMD or Nvidia route. AMD have a slight edge in the purchasing decision as i use linux but if they don't have hardware at the performance point i want then i will go nvidia. i do want something that will comprehensively thump the 2080TI across the board. anything less than that is just not worth the upgrade for me (i tend to upgrade rarely and look for bigger leaps).

I'm still rocking my RTX 2070 and I doubt I'll upgrade to 3070 or 3080 anytime soon. I overclocked my 2070, no need to upgrade my GPU if I can push it as far as my 2070 will let me.

I might. Usually when Nvidia switches to a new process it's the biggest leap in performance and perf/watt. So a 3060 should be perfect for me since I'm on 1080p.

In a heart beat... I want to play Cyberpunk at the absolute best image quality possible so the RTX 3080 Ti will be pre-ordered the moment it is available. Its the one game out side of the new Elder Scrolls and GTA6 that I am looking forward to.

You think it can do it at 3440*1440 144Hz?

@horgen: It hitting your target with cyberpunk shouldn't be your main focus... The 3080 Ti could end up giving you more than 2x the FPS of a 2080... So a upgrade wouldn't look too shabby.

The rumours are pointing to a Pascal vs Maxwell level of performance difference with Ampere vs Turing... So even a RTX 3080 will give you a 2x increase in performance.

2x the FPS tier vs tier is what Pascal gave us over Maxwell.

Fingers crossed.

Rumours are point to a performance gap bigger than Pascal was to Maxwell... Where you got 2x the performance of the same tier gpu i.e 1080 Ti vs 980 Ti and a standard 1080 vs a 980 Ti was a substantial jump in performance.

If Ampere gives us that level of performance over Maxwell a 3080 will give you 30% more performance of a 2080 Ti at minumum.

The 3080 is rumoured to have 18GB/s GDDR6 with a 2GHz core clock and a 12GB VRAM on 385bit bus and 3840 Shader's... With the IPC of Ampere and the fact that its 7nm with 4x the RTX performance, it a bigger performance gap from 2080 Ti was to a 1080 Ti.

Based on performance I will be debating the same thing a RTX 3080 or Ti... I am leaning to Ti but if its better than Pascal vs Maxwell I just might grab a RTX 3080.

Turing vs Pascal was because it was on the same die size and had additional cores to deal with its why the performance was a dud between the two, 7nm will free up room to give use better rasterization performance.

@Grey_Eyed_Elf: Price matters too. The 2080Ti price was ridiculous. Launch price here for some of the more expensive versions was equal to 3 GTX 680.

Rumours are 699 or 799 for regular RTX 3080... I had hoped to see 599 there. Oh well we don't know before it is announced by nvidia.

Usually every other gen. 680, 980Ti, 2080... 700 series was a refresh.. .1000 series was a new architecture, but I was happy with the 980Ti. Now I notice RDR2 can slow the 2080 down.

You should upgrade when your hardware no longer delivers the performance that you desire. If you are not reaching that point... don't worry about it. Also, CPU performance is independent of resolution. Resolution falls on the GPU.

Gotcha, I wasn't their with the 980Ti, I only had 970 for its time until I got myself 1070 and that was a huge upgrade. I move to the 1080Ti and now, 2070. My daughter has my old 1080Ti and still a beast of a card, I'll admit, my 2070 is great but playing RDR2 puts a lot of work on my 2070 but still gets the job done.

I normally don't upgrade whenever a new GPU releases, I'll wait for benchmarks on 30XX to make a valid decision. But I sure do need to replace my R7 2700X asap when the 4000 series releases.

Just do not know..... I think with the Covid 19 hitting the economy hard world wide, Nvidia's lower than expected sales of the RTX cards vs Pascal ... AMD's upcoming RDNA 2.0 gpus along with the next set of consoles hinting at massive performance per watt gains. Hopefully they play it smart and charge between $650-$699 and not the $800 price tag RTX 2080.

It would be nice to see Ti being at $800 mark vs the crazy $1200 price of current Ti.

@04dcarraher: The $1200 price tag on the partner 2080Tis is mostly because of the Founder's Edition being a $1200 GPU vs. the standard ones at $999 (pretty much not existent outside of paper release). If the Founder's Edition would not be a thing, the manufacturers would not have had the excuse to charge that price for all of their cards.

I'm waiting for a 2080 TI price drop I'm getting by on my 970 GTX for the rest of this gen.

It will be replaced, not get a price drop.

But all video card prices go down eventually once a new card comes out.

That is only for a short time, if it happens. However it would be better to go for RTX3080 and get the same performance for less power draw. And if this thread is correct, it might be equal to 3070. Which will be even cheaper and draw less power.

Interesting I'll keep that in mind thanks.
