The Government has been so kind as to return about 10% of the taxes I paid last year, so it's time for a new rig.  This was a quick buildup with really no research done, just to get an estimate on price.   I have it at around $2000 now, but would like to get closer to $1600.  The LCD isn't a must as I have a decent crt to get by with for now.  I'd like to hear some input on this build...

Intel C2D E6600....$329

EVGA NForce 680i...$249

EVGA 8800 GTS Superclocked...$409

OCZ Dual 2g pc5400...$229

Ultra X-Connect V series 700 watt...$99

Seagate 320gb sata 7200...$99

Ultra case...$69

Sony dvd rom...$39

Vista upgrade...$159

Spectre 20.1" x20wg Naga 5ms...$250

Also, is there anything I'm forgetting?  It's been a while since I built one of these.

Thanks

680i is a waste of cash, get a GA-965P-DS3 instead and vista is a waste as well. Other than that, thats a nice rig.

Also don't get some super cheap case if you want to overclock, which I'm assuming you are with the E6600 and that mobo. Make sure it has plenty of fan slots if you want to put in your own, or find one that comes with 4 fans or so. Then get a aftermarket heatsink like the Tuniq Tower 120. Have my E6600 at 3ghz right now, doesnt go over 45C with stress tests on both cores simultaneously. I just switched cases last night, saw about a 7 degree celsius drop on both gpu and cpu so a good case is worthwhile, probably go for a higher clock when I get home from work.

Thanks for the replies. Okay, I was kinda on the fence about Vista anyway, so I'll skip till dx10 rolls around. What speed of ram should I be looking for to fully utilize the E6600's fsb? Also, the case I picked out was just a fill in for a price estimate. I'll be sure to find something roomy and full of fans. Secondly, how are the overclocking abilities of the GA-965P-DS3 compared to the 680i? If they are close, I'll go with the GA, as SLI is'nt important to me.  One more question, I purchased the full version of xp a few years ago. Will I be able to install it on a new comp and still keep xp active on my existing pc? I'd really hate to buy it again only to use it for a few months till I'm ready for Vista. Thanks

Not sure, I can't find the specs. But I found a normally clocked card for $30 less, so I'll go that route.

Yar I got the 650i Nvidia board from Asus, the P5N-E SLI, even though I don't ever plan on going SLI. Quite happy with it so far, way cheaper at $140 than all those 680i boards.
It may be wiser to just get the regular 8800GTS too. Only bought a pre-oc card once and I barely got anything past that for my own overclock. This time I went for the regular version of a 7900GS, but they sell oc versions as well. Mine surpassed the pre-oc cards so I'm very happy with it.

I have seen the evga's pre-clocked vga's and i must say if i where you i would get a preclocked because they are cooled diffriently and you get to keep your warranty. Also if your not planning on sli i would not recommend a sli mobo, i would go with a P5W (best ocing motherboard for an e6600).

I'd go with faster RAM and skip the Vista upgrade. I'm saving up for this P.S.U. and it's getting good reviews. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817139002roulettethedog
Keep Vista, You have a 8800GTS and C&C is in March and will supoort DX10....Just get it OEM fo $110
