Federal Law Enforcement cited in Portland, use unmarked vehicles to pull protesters of streets

Pretty much everyone agrees that rioters are a problem. Peaceful Protestors are not the problem, but the rioters among them are.

No worries, Hollywood definitely has played a role in the whole "you didn't read me my rights!" mantra. Miranda is pretty cut and dry.

They aren't the same. Informing someone of their rights is reading the rights to them. Waiving rights mean you are giving up those rights and answering questions without your attorney.

The democratic mayors in the larger cities have done a swell job at exemplifying their impotence when it comes to laws and just civility and a lot of it is impart to their arrogance. When we look at the hoodlums we see people against the laws and normalcy of society but the politicians are hedging their bets. Certainly it is not a coincidence these "leaders" are more up in arms over federal authorities doing their job than the nightly destruction in liberal city after city.

Lights in your eyes causing permanent eye damage. What is wrong with you. Would you like to be blind? Also if those people would just go home and quit rioting the federal agents would too. Pretty simple concept and they wouldn't be pelted with bean bags and gas canisters.

What exactly are they even trying to achieve by burning down the federal court house anyway? Also ALL rioters are all doing illegal crap and you support the violence. Also if you are going to riot you better darn well expect an aggressive police force. How else do you handle rioters tearing up public/private property?

You should probably take a look at the initial context again, and focus on what's omitted in your take. Pretty important word.

Being hit by fast-moving projectiles for no reason causes bodily damage. And why would they go home and give the statists what they want?

People are protesting against injustice and brutality from an aggressive police force that has always been aggressive, especially towards minority groups.

Perhaps the government and the police should start listening and reform themselves, and then the protests will mitigate, otherwise this will continue on and on.

Oh, I can't wait for the defenses for this one...

Minorities are unfairly targeted at a higher rate by the police and have been since... forever in America's history and it continues on.

@drunk_pi: I don't need to try again. It's a fact. Police killed nine unarmed black people last year and the riots have exceeded that. Just because hardly anyone cares about black kids getting killed in a riot doesn't mean it's not happening.

And no, it's not a thread, calm yourself down. It's a rhetorical question asked because no one protesting wants to be hit with non-lethals in the face as they're blinded and maimed, just as a police officer doesn't want a light in his eye.

There's been rioting every day for weeks with thousands of individuals involved. Does being in a wheelchair exempt a person from committing a crime or being a threat to peace?

Not everyone protesting is rioting. And they shouldn't be treated as such. Oddly the protests are against police brutality and we've seen many many displays of that.

Breaking news at 11! Water is wet. Yes, not everyone who protests is rioting. Plenty of peaceful protests occur every day in Portland beyond the small section of where all the rioting/destruction/criminal acts are situated. Yet time and time again, instigators come to protests, create issues, an unlawful assembly is declared, and "peaceful" people remain and then cheer on the instigators. Thus, if you remain at riot/unlawful assembly, there will be consequences which commonly include being subjected to crowd control measures.

At the end of the day though, I get paid by the hour - and in these circumstances, it's time and half.

So far federal agents actions have resulted in larger and violent crowds rather than the opposite. However, I suspect that federal government, based on the "break in" from the Trump campaign is trying to paint democrat cities as chaos ridden. 2020 is going to be a hard election for Americans.

One thing they will tell you is that when the police respond by escalating force — wearing riot gear from the start, or using tear gas on protesters — it doesn’t work. In fact, disproportionate police force is one of the things that can make a peaceful protest not so peaceful. But if we know that (and have known that for decades), why are police still doing it?

It would also be an interesting thought experiment to consider the possibility that protesters could storm the court house and occupy it the same way Ammon Bundy and his brothers did. Will the federal agents wait it out like they did with Bundy or would they go in guns ablazing.
