I don't think that sports games should be released yearly.  I wrote my reasoning here:

As much as I loved 2K, they were not off the hook.

I came in at 2K3, which was sweet.  A lot was changed when they acquired the ESPN license.  ...so that was cool.  2K5, though, as great as it was, was pretty much a tweaked 2K4 with a gimmicky crib mode and first person thing that didn't work.

I don't think they're immune to it either.  It's not like their MLB games are jumping by leaps and bounds every year.

I don't see anything wrong with sports games coming out every year.  If done right each new one can be better than the last if the developers find new ways to improve the game of new features or simply fix what people have complained about.
