So many good ones it's hard to pick just one. UGA/Auburn the souths oldest rivalry. Noles/Fla an Noles/Canes great too.

Florida/UGA, FSU/Florida, FSU/Miami

The biggest rivalry though is Jaguars/Everyone. Teams/fans get jealous of the success the Jags have had, so there's naturally some bitterness and hate whenever someone's team plays them. #swaguars

Some of these rivalries are given too much credit for length of time. And doesn't take into account big games. For instance I think 70s Raiders v Steelers is a more compelling rivalry than Packers v Bears. Yes the history is so long on the latter, but the former has so many historically big games(the Packers have played bigger games against the Cowboys) when all the marbles were on the line. At least NFL wise Cowboys v 49ers, Patriots v Colts were all more interesting to. Short lived and arguably not as nasty among the fanbase(though from what I hear 70s Raiders v Steelers). At least with the NFL rivalries, the regular season stuff is fine and all, but it's the big playoff centric rivalries that are more impressive at least that's the way I look at it.

Either way I'm picking Yankees v Red Sox. You have the history, you have the bad blood between fans, you have the big games countless playoff games, and yes at a certain point it was gloriously one sides as one side won all the big games, and the other shittier side kept losing. But then sadness happened and the world was given the 2nd worst day in the history of sports as those shitstains from Boston made one of Baseball's most awful comebacks. Thus officially evening the odds(spiritually at least), and then allowing those filthy, disgusting, bottom feeding shit stains on the fabric of humanity Boston fans to actually talk up to glorious New York. History, big games, bad blood, and oh yeah a shit ton of hall of famers to boot.

The Glorious New York Yankees and the Boston Shit Sox

@jg4xchamp: Then you have those New York Yankees who are old enough to be in a retirement home. The fans who bring up championships before they were even born. And a city that has a ghetto walking distance from the UN headquarters.

On the brink of Champions League qualification but yeah sure, whatever. We just played the greatest football in the world 2 seasons ago, had some incredible world class players at the club like Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, Rafael Van Der Vaart. Have some of the greatest young talents in football like Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen. :D

you said sports rivalry this is pretty much limited to American gridiron football and that is only a very tiny portion of the sporting world. the topic is DAMN misleading.

Speaking strictly of American sports, I would go with Yankees-Red Sox, with Lakers Celtics coming in right behind them. So many great ones, though.

I feel like college b ball rivalries were better when kids stayed longer in school. It bred more contempt.

Montreal Canadians and Boston Bruins definitely have a pretty big rivalry. Every game is physical and intense, not to mention some matches that just went overboard.

Packers vs Bears, nothing beats it in my opinion. Small city vs big city, so much history between the two, and two of the most successful and oldest franchises in the NFL.

Some european clubs that compete in multiple sports ( mainly football and Basketball ) really do hate each other

If you ever watched a game such as

Red Star vs Partizan or Olympiacos vs Panathinaikos you will know what i mean. Anything goes from flares to even serious injuries and unfortunately even deaths a few times ( thankfully thinks got a bit more civilized lately but still there is a lot of tension between such kind of games to the point where fans of the opposing team cant watch their team playing in away games against their arch rivals )

I think the biggest rivalry in English football is Manchester United-Liverpool. Chelsea is a "new" rival for Manchester United. When Abramovich acquired the team and transformed it in one of the biggest club in the world the point of view of some people could change. But, I think honestly, Liverpool never would have transferred Mata to Man. United if the Spanish player was playing for Merseyside team.

If anyone is interested in this football rivalry, you can go to Youtube and search it. There are extraordinary documentaries that shows the history of a rivalry that started before the football.

Of that list probably Yankees and Redsox, although I personally think things between the Redsox and Orioles used to be much more heated back when the O's used to be good years ago.

Most storied rivalry is probably Army vs Navy.

Steelers vs Ravens is a pretty brutal rivalry.

Sadly I am stuck in NC now so I do know that Duke / UNC has caused it share of divorces and fights so I guess it needs to get a mention.

Soccer / Football has it's share also, but I really don't follow the sport so I will say Manchester and anyone that plays them?
