5 years, 500 million and now need help.
What the actual hell?
Is this really surprising? They couldn't even handle porting a collection of old games to Xbone without making a mess on themselves.
Well it’s not exactly that first time a dev called in for support in making a game and it won’t be the last. As long as I get a good game out of it then why would that be a problem for me? 🤷♂️
@Ant_17: If you have more workers available then wouldn’t that mean you’d have less people working crunch?
This just shows how incompetent MS is in general more than anything. They should have seen this situation coming a looooong time ago, and fixed it by getting rid of the dead weight and hiring new talent. But, no. They did nothing. Now they need to beg/pay others for help. This, among other reasons, is why MS is a laughingstock in the video game world these days.
@fedor: so why call them now? Months before launch? After the crap showing of the game?
And what about covid? Niw it's ok to pack up offices?
Why call them now? To help with development and reduce crunch on 343 employees. How do you know they're even in office? Maybe they're all WAH right now, do you have information that says they're in office, or are you just concern trolling?
@fedor: honestly? It's more making fun of xbox. I dont know how they will collab but I like they are so stupid they need help.
Oh, well I'm more happy that they swallowed their pride and admitted that 343 is trash and they need help. As a consumer of video game products, I just want a good game.
@Ant_17: Ok? Like I said this isn’t the first time and it won’t be the last and more workers available would mean less crunch for other people. I’m not exactly privy to all the information on the budget of the game so I’ll let those in charge do all that stuff. Regardless problems arise in game development and you do things to fix those problems. Don’t see the issue here in bringing extra workers in to help out. Seems like a good thing to me. 🤷♂️
@fedor: that's fair. Hope they fix it, but dont priase 343, praise the other dev.
I'm not praising 343i, I called them trash. I highly doubt this was their decision. It's clear someone higher up at MS (probs Phil) made the call to bring in the other dev after the poor showing last week.
@Ant_17: If you have more workers available then wouldn’t that mean you’d have less people working crunch?
@fedor: sure, but the other outlook is they would rather put 2 devs into crunch to make the release date.
You ever think maybe they brought in the other studio to help reduce crunch?
Throwing more people onto a project this late is actually bad. There needs to be time to ramp up new personnel and come up with strategies on how the two devs will work together to get the product finished. This isn't something that can be put in place in a short amount of time and will actually increase crunch for both devs.
Well it’s not exactly that first time a dev called in for support in making a game and it won’t be the last. As long as I get a good game out of it then why would that be a problem for me? 🤷♂️
343 hasn't made a good game yet so don't count on it.
@Ant_17: Nah. I think a rushed patch job would be if they just tried to do it all themselves. Bringing in more devs to increase the work rate seems like a good thing to me. Not that I have a problem with a dev delaying a game and just continuing to work on it themselves either. Both are acceptable things to do in my opinion.
343i: Hey, Activision? Can you guys do us a favor?
Activision: Don't say help you with Halo.
343i: ....... ummmm.
Activison: [CLICK!]
343 must be very happy as this supporting studio has a track record of helping games like Anthem and Mass Effect: Andromeda.
Infinite looks like it's using the same graphics engine as Andromeda.

They're in great hands.
Outsourcing to third party contractors is common in the industry.
It's not that they're outsourcing. It's that they're outsourcing so late in the development of the game.
@Ant_17: This was announced last year. It's very common for studios making large, open-world games to hire additional studios to help with production, especially when they haven't made open-world games before.
Nintendo brought on Monolith Soft to help construct the world for Breath of the Wild.
It’s going to be interesting to see the final product. Will show what is possible to achieve in a few months.

Yeah, this should be obvious. You don't outsource so close to release unless something is VERY wrong, lol.
I was just reading the other day their plans for making MCC cross-play, a separate Halo MP freeware, and they are still working on releasing more content on PC for MCC with new enhancements not on the current Xbox One MCC, not to mention with each addition of the MCC on PC they have to troubleshoot, and they have Halo Infinite development to get done with ports for base XB1, XB1X, Series S and X, streaming I imagine, and PC...
It seems a bit too obvious 343 stretched themselves thin, trying to juggle too much at once even in normal times, now there is the complications of the pandemic. They should have postponed MCC to PC the moment the pandemic outbreak hit. Funny too that when reflecting on failures of the original MCC they talked about how much of the issues arose from working with several games with different code in too short of a time frame, you think if that was the case they would try not to juggle more work than they can handle. Who's running that shit? Sounds like they pulled them out of an Amazon warehouse.
Company that provides support for a lot of big name titles... is providing support for a big name title. Wild.
Been staying out of the Infinite drama, Halo just isn't my thing. But outsourcing work to individuals and/or companies, guess what, that's pretty much every game you play. Especially so with AAA titles.
Anyways, this specific collaboration was known about over a year ago. Not sure why it's suddenly news again.
Ok check this out.
Sperasoft helps out AAA game companies and that's cool and all. But at what point do they help? Here's when they announced they were helping Ubisoft with AC Valhalla.

This was in May, less than a month after they announced the game. Halo Infinite is rumored to be in development for 5 years and now, three months before launch, they enlist Sperasoft's help.
Does anyone here really believe that this was always the plan all along and it's not in response to the feedback 343 just got from their Halo reveal?

Yeah, that's not true at all in the case of live service MP games.
