Poll Are you getting Baldur Gate 3 on day 1? (86 votes)

Yup 35%
Nope 59%
I own an Xbox, my system can't handle the game 6%

Ever since the bear sex was shown, i am seeing and hearing so much talk about this game that i am kinda amazed at how this niche title became so big. My original plan was to play the hell out of AC6 that comes out a few weeks later, and then, when i am tired of the game, buy BG3. F that, i ain't waiting for this thing anymore. Day 1 for sure.

Buys, plays and defends outriders, but skips BG3. Pathetic.

No. Will wait for sale or some sort of definitive edition.

I didn't buy Outriders. I played it co-op on GP with a friend and I gave it a 5/10.

I don't do turn based. So, BG3 never had a chance of being played by me.

I'm sure it will be a great game but nothing I've seen made me want to play it. Can't explain but I'm not sold on the atmosphere.

Don't want to hear any excuses, and when we originally spoke about the game, you said it was a solid game, not a 5/10 game, so you need to stop flip flopping.

When turn based makes you think and offers more flexibility than real time, there are no negatives, so you ignoring it like the plague is very foolish of you.

Not on Day 1 no. Leave some time for patches n such like. But I do plan to get it.

I do also plan to play through BG2 and Throne of Baal before. I also have original sin 1 and 2 sitting there. Hear nothing but good things but haven't actually played them. So need to get stuck into those.

Nah, that's not a guarantee. After getting into Path Finder, he hasn't been as high on Divinity. He thinks Divinity is too simple and he's even done no death runs.

There is much more on offer in BG3 than both divinity titles. He will be all over this.

Why would you play a bugger unfinished mess?

doesnt matter, it has bugs now, will have bugs in 6 months.

if you wanted to play it, its been available

just because its "officially declared out of early access"

doesnt mean its got no bugs

Currently only act 1 is available in early access. The final game has 3 acts. Still about 30-40 hours of content in just act 1.

Yep unless it sees a massive drop in act 2-3 it’s a shoe in for rpg of the year imo… had it for a couple of years though, and it’s been amazing to follow all the changes it has gone through on EA

lol it was a bug mess. previews are saying that the game is very polished, so have a few bugs here and there is very far from being a buggy mess like it was pre release.

I don't know. I'm really hyped for BG3 but I can't stand turn based lol. I want to like it, but I don't know if I can. I hope I can. it looks interesting.

I loved Dragon Age Origins on PC back in 2009. I hated Divinity tho lol.

Sure, I bought it day 1 of Early Access two years ago. I've got about 50 hours out of it so far.

The game was already really good two years ago. With all of this extra time for polish, depth, and additional content, I'm confident it will be one of the top games of 2023.

It's also clear that it was a labour of love from the developers, and that the developers had a ton of freedom to add whatever little immersive features they like. These are really good signs.

It's been fine for about a year, the game was actually cheaper when it was in early access too. You could have been playing it already if your so hype for it.many have been playing it. It's not like the game is going to be drastically different from where it was at 2-3 months ago for example.

I just don't get hyping a game "launch" that's been available to the public for 2 years.

Is it really the bear romance thing that makes this matter?

Done buying AAA games at launch.

Been playing it for years in early access, can't wait for the final release.

It is...amazing.

I play actual D&D (tabletop) and this really has the same spirit and mood and atmosphere. I even found a book that references the sort of introductory tabletop campaign I first played (Mines of Phandelver) in BG3 and it was fun to read and see how the game concluded that campaign.

Also Larian can do no wrong as far as I am concerned. Been playing their games for years from Divinity to Original Sin to Dragon Commander. All great. Some a bit rougher than others, but they have such a great team and fun sense of humor. "Whimsy" is probably one of my favorite feelings or sentiments or whatever and they really nail it.

It's fun to participate and watch the development process.

I won't sit here and defend it--yes early access can be buggy and sometimes disappointing--but if you really aren't just a gamer but a game enthusiast it can be a lot of fun. Some of us find joy in seeing something take shape despite the hassle it might bring. And I like to think that in my own small way, through feedback and bug reporting and participating in forum discussions and the like, I made the game better.

Out of all the early-access games I've purchased, of which there are many, I maybe only regret like two or three of them. And they only cost like 10-20 dollars so no big loss there.

God-damned Godus...

Not to nitpick, but it's an independent game. Can those be AAA?

There's no celebrity voice actors as far as I know, there's no huge marketing budget...the only real "big" connection this game has is to the D&D license which is owned by Hasbro (a huge corporation), but there's thousands of people out there that have dealt with the D&D license and made their own adventures and content, so that's not even that big of a deal, really.

I'm with you, though; done buying AAA games at launch.

There are celebrity voice actors. JK Simmons and Jason Isaacs are playing two of the villains.

Also, Larian is an indie studio but they've got 300-400 employees across 6 countries, and this is the only game they've announced that they are working on. It's not tiny.

No way they have this many employees. Other than Fromsoft, is there even a single other studio that has around 400 devs, and aren't building their games from the ground up with a bunch of annoyances, to then sell you the solution on their mtx store? Also crazy how 30% of the company is owned by Tencent, the worst of the worst, and there's still no infuence on mtx and all of this trash that pollutes games. Pretty incredible tbh.

@sargentd: Fair point! People used to call Valve an indie developer, so this is kind of the same thing.

@kathaariancode: Tencent is apparently a partial shareholder, and Sven (the guy who dresses up in silly armour and hosts the Panel from Hell) owns the majority of the shares.

They clearly can't have much influence, given the whole "gay sex scene with a man transformed into a bear and then getting banned on TikTok" thing.

No thanks. DOS 2.5 with a BG skin. They've now made exactly the same game three times. It goes without saying if you're a big fan of the Divinity Original Sin games you'll love this too (they're all the same).

If you're a Baldur's Gate fan you'll wonder WTF you're playing. It might turn out to be a good/great game but it won't even faintly resemble a Baldur's Gate game. Absolutely the worst dev they could have given this license to.

Flame away but be warned your rage is wasted on me I honestly give not the slightest shit about your Larian fanboy BS.

@blueinheaven: Are you basing that off extremely early impressions of the first EA build? Because the game has changed a shitload since then, and we know of a lot more narrative links to the original games.

Also, the Divinity games have tons of variation between them. Even the DOS sub-series isn't just the same game over and over. DOS 1 was a neat little Ultima 7 tribute, while DOS 2 was significantly deeper, had more personality, was much larger in scope, and was overall a better game. BG3 has completely different mechanics, and feels like a leap up again from DOS 2.
