BG3 For Xbox Launching This Year By Breaking Series S Parity Clause

Facts. I have a Series S as well and, knowing that I may now miss out on whole features is extremely disappointment. I should get the exact same features as the Series X but, at a lesser quality. That, at the end of the day, was the promise Xbox made to folks. It's even more BS when the majority of folks own the Series S and, not the X.

I mean, he's not. This isn't 2002. Taking out split screen is just trimming the fat. As a Series S owner, I couldn't give less of an f**k to be honest.

I don't think most care about the feature. I think a lot of the people making the biggest noise were just using it as ammo against Xbox.

The bad PR is because of the latest trend of developers taking to twitter to air their grievances. What the studio should have done was simply say that the Xbox version would be postponed and they are working with Xbox engineers to try and solve the issue and only come out with the reason and this solution later on.

The way they handled it just brought bad PR and needless pressure, while feeding PlayStation fanboys who recently went on twitter to claim the game as a PlayStation timed exclusive.

This is what pisses me off about developers recently joining in/feeding the fanboy nonsense on twitter by complaining. We all work hard at our jobs, and we're all paying up the ass for your game. So keep it to yourself, work with the relevant parties in the background and stfu. It just looks unprofessional. It's making me lose respect for some of these developers.

@Antwan3K: Yes I am making assumptions as in regards to Halo & Forza's missing splitscreen, never said I wasn't, but where there's smoke there's fire.

The problem here is that it's now OFFICIAL that S is hampering the X.

Hadn't MS loosened it's parity clause this one game in BG3 it wouldn't have seen the light of day on Xbox until next year at the earliest, and maybe not at all as MS own engineers currently can't find a solution either.

MS are the ones that created the S and thus this bad PR. Halo is missing splitscreen and same goes for Forza Motorsport. Sure 343 or T10 aren't going to come out and say why, so it's good that Larian has, so now MS has to do something about it.

I don't care for splitscreen, but I paid for a premium console, and if it's getting games delayed due to a weaker console, then MS created an issue I didn't pay for.

You can pass it off as ONE GAME, but it always starts with one.

Now I've had my say on this and I'm sure you will respond, and I will read it, but at this point for me at least is to move on as I've said enough on this subject for now.

Increasing costs for the publisher/developer. What do you think, is it less or more costly having to invest extra time on a game (e.g. BaldursGate3) in order to make it run on inferior hardware? Ever heard of the expression "time is money"?

And to claim there is high demand for a cheaper solution with merely 22m Xbox... uh... serieses sold? What a clumsy name for a console.

@dabear: From what I've read, he's only hating on the Series S. Rightfully so, if it really is holding back Series X. I watch a few YouTubers and even the hardcore Xbox ones have been complaining lately. MS focus is on cloud and PC. The console is just there. They even jacked the price of gamepass up on console but left it the same on PC. It's clear where their priorities are.

I am thinking from the perspective of the consumer. MS does need to take into account the perspectives of devs/publishers though. The mistake MS made with the S is that they didn’t take into account memory /ram constraints for devs. Not every dev is going to use those fancy features the X/S support and MS needed to account for that. Also in terms of consumers not everyone can afford to spend well over half a grand in some cases for either the X or PS5 right now especially with the high cost of living currently. I wouldn’t be surprised if the S’s already low price is dropped further to like around 200 dollars/euros/etc and maybe less in some countries by the end of the gen. Some people don’t care much about graphics and just want to play the latest games with their friends at an affordable price. Microsoft might never realize their vision with the S but it’s their attempt at appealing to the mass market

Split screen requires rendering everything twice, that's why the N64 had such issues with split screen. The Xbox Series S just runs like absolute trash with split screen, which is why they didn't want to release it.

I didn't even know split screen was still a thing outside of Nintendo consoles until 2023. And wouldn't you know, it's one of the most important and used features there is. :-O
