According to Eurogamer.pt (Portuguese text) and other media sites Sony didn't want to stay out of global trends and might have copied the Xbox Elite controller and Nintendo Joycons, implementing the much praised DriftⓇ technology on their controller/sex-toy DualSense.

I was joking about this the other day. Saying "at least it's not as bad as joycon drift."

Oh God, what have I done?

I saw this Dual Sense teardown by TronicFX (312) PS5 DualSense Controller Teardown - A Repairability Perspective - YouTube and they are exactly the same analogue sticks from the DS4.

So drift was inevitable, as he predicts.

@gym_lion: My PS4 Pro played like 2 games a year and I had to buy a new controller for it because it got really bad.

Must be lucky then, never had drift issues with the DS4. Never really had it at all except for like 2 360 controllers.

Well how can you be sure. If you don't know what 'drift' is, you might have experienced it and not know what it was.

I saw this. Only had drift on an old PS2 controller I think. Seems I've been lucky, given how maby people here have reported it across various platforms over the years.

It's basically when your mouse pointer moves on it's own. Was more common when mice had balls and those balls got dirty.

@gym_lion: Mostly a 90s thing for me, but what would happen was the pointer not even moving from the dirt.

@gym_lion: I have 4 dualshocks, 2 that I use a lot and have never had a problem with drifting, even with COUNTLESS hours in Destiny 2 and CoD.

I've never heard any complaints about it either so I'm guessing if the Dualsense is using the same analog sticks it'll be just fine.

@vfighter: dualshocks are not known to have major drift issues, unlike literally every single Xbox controller. See my post above for the class action lawsuit.

Yeah I saw this the other day and yikes. These companies need to tighten up on the QA or something because it seems like these newer controllers are getting pretty susceptible to the stick drift.

The only controller I've ever had to drift on me was the 360 one I have now. Don't use it anymore though. I have two sets of joy cons and never experienced any drift with them, although I've also never tried to play Smash with them either.

Never had issues with drifting on DS4 however I have issues with the analogs not responding properly after months/years of usage, as in if press for instance down my character responds but slowly instead of sprinting they walk. Or is it perhaps the same thing lol?

@Sollet: I have one old DS3 that randomly "activates" triggers and d-pad buttons. It's pretty wild - you'll just be sitting there and suddenly your character switches a weapon on you.

I haven't had any drifting on my PS5... or my PS4 for that matter. I've had it on those stupid joycons though.

Only controller I've ever had drift on was switch. So if sense is same as ps4, we're good.

All the issues we had with DS4 will be present with dualsense. Even tho their new controller does not feel cheap, the inside is a cheap Made in China mess. I just hope it takes me way over a year to get any dead zones, its the primary thing i got the most on DS4.

The only controller that I’ve had drift on was the Switch joycons. Didn’t happen until about 2 years of frequent use but that still seems a bit early for it to happen in my opinion.

When you move the analog stick to a certain area and it simply doesn't register or you press it all the way forwards so you character moves quickly, but it registers as you're barely pressing the analog stick, which makes you character walk as slow as it can. I had 3 DS4 with this awful issue. When pressing forward, it wasn't registering, so you have to recenter the stick by letting it go, to then have it pressed again to move forward. Its aggravating af.

I think I've had issues with every initial playstation and xbox controller I've owned except for The Duke.

Thankfully, the replacements I bought at retail were fine.

Looking to get a Series X controller soon since my One controller is starting to drift.

Also sold my extra DS4 for the same reason, bought a 3rd party PS4 controller to use with PS BC titles

You're lucky. One of those DS4, i was so tired of buying these controllers that i told myself i'll deal with it by keep on using the damn thing. I swear i was bitchin' at my screen every time i died or messup in a game because of. Literally talking to my monitor and fuming with rage 🤬Only high ping in multiplayer games can annoy me this much.

I thought it was a very common issue? I take care of my stuff, so its not a matter of me having filthy controllers, and 3 DS4 having the same issue (all on the left analog stick) can't be a coincidence.

@hardwenzen: I'm guessing you had bad luck or I had good luck. I still have the DS4 that came with my launch PS4 and two other ones with no issues. Sounds annoying as hell though. Hope you don't have to go through that again.

What controllers have the most and least amount of drift issues? How bad are the drift issues on Xbox One and Series X controllers compared to Dualshock 4 and Dualsense? I heard the Joy Cons are the worst, but what about the Switch Pro controller? Does the Switch Pro controller also have bad drift? Do the Switch Lite built in analogs also have drift?

Havent experienced drift on joy-cons since I almost never use them, but my Switch Pro controller has it pretty bad. Guess it's back to GC controllers for Smash. Have yet to experience stick drift on any other controller though.

@xantufrog: Weird, I had a dualshock 3 that did the same thing, it seemed like it was tied to my analog movements though. Like if I pressed in R3 to run and moved that stick up at the same time a random face button would be pressed.
