Sony is ditching the PlayStation Twitter's share feature.

I'm all for them doing this.

Elon's a disgusting person with his pandering to hate speech and misinformation. The platform has been taken over by bots. If their reason isn't sociopolitical then it's probably over concerns of legal liability. Elon has fired their chief officers in charge of user security, information security, federal legal compliance. If Sony shares user information with them as part of brinding their platform, huge legal liability for Sony, so, can't blame them. Better late than never.

After seeing MS cut that shit out from its own X (Twitter) integrations from Xbox Series months ago, it was only a matter of time for Sony to cut ties with X for their PS4/5. Not sure if Nintendo will follow, but one things for sure. Elon Musk is doing a hell of a job running X to the ground👏👏👏

Edit: By the way Lamprey263, it's just X now. Twitter was sooo decade ago lol

Didn't even know it was a thing on any of these entertainment boxes (yeah not so much game consoles anymore)

Oh and I knew this was gonna turn political. Why do Americans take a side of politics and then cheer them on like they're cheering on their football team, it's weird af.

@last_lap: "Oh and I knew this was gonna turn political."

It's obviously going to be people's go to assumption of why it's happening. Like in my post though there are legal liabilities for Sony to consider too.

Regulators don't screw around when it comes to user privacy concerns, especially COPPA rules. Given the platform bridging gives each end a degree of shared access to user data, Twitter could end Sony in hot water for misusing, or not protecting that information. Musk's disregard for that is well documented, from firing his chief officers that oversaw compliance, and refusing to cooperate with regulators, Sony might not be able to shrug blame of data breach off on Twiiter due to their own failures to exercise due diligence with who they partner with. That I think, could be an even larger concern than politics.

Eh, not a feature I used so don’t really care one way or the other. Elon has definitely ruined Twitter though.

Another L for Sony. Love Elon! Love that he exposed what was happening at Twitter, love that he cleaned house and got rid of the scum that was working there. I get a kick out of all the people who claimed they were gonna run off to Mastadon, Threads, Tribal, BlueSky, but then they turned right back around. The hits keep on coming for Sony.

@last_lap: I agree. Witnessing it provides a lot of validation to people who are more moderate. People who watch the circus and grow tired of it will hopefully see the benefit of gravitation towards moderation rather than exacerbating it by treading further to whatever extreme.

Elon was just on Joe Rogan a few days ago and discussed this. Most social media is so far left that if you transition a platform back to the middle, far lefters will say the platform is far right. Far lefters want anyone not aligned with their ideology to be silenced, aka not allowed to speak at all.

Elon is doing worse in that regard going by the factual data. More approved censorship requests by conservative shithole governments. More frivolous lawsuits that will die in discovery because someone said something mean to him or about "X". More paywalls.

All around he makes the last ownership seem more "free", even when using his false understanding of the first amendment. I'm not sure this contributed into Elon running it into the ground financially.

@theam0g said:

That was actually just a pretty big a lie,

  • Twitter’s research shows that its algorithm favors conservative views - The Verge
  • Algorithmic amplification of politics on Twitter | PNAS

Turns out Twitter even before Elon actually amplified and aided right leaning views more so than left when looking at the entire data set rather than a few cherry picked cases. Elon and others lied to you guys, it was biased - just not the in the direction you thought.

  • Nonprofit Sued by Elon Musk's X Claps Back, Calls Suit 'Authoritarian' (businessinsider.com)

@sargentd said:

He's no devil, just a complete and total moron on some topics and ventures. He has no understanding of the first amendment NOR the engineering/tech behind Twitter, and even going by his own faulty interpretation of it he's doing a worse job than pre-Elon twitter lmao.

Musk reveals Twitter ad revenue is down 50% as social media competition mounts - CBS News

Elon Musk getting owned by a former Twitter engineer while flexing his non-existing knowledge : facepalm (reddit.com)

And as such all the links in my post show this was indeed a smart move by Sony. Twitter has gone to shit.

Bullshit. He bought Twitter to be a great big redpill hole replatforming the worst of the worst only to watch it continually spiral. The shit he's doing with Twitter is ironically only inviting more government scrutiny from around the planet. Not to mention he seems to have zero idea of how to make it work, tarnishing the "genius" persona he and others created for himself

True. Like how he let people in India talk freely and didn't comply with the govt. censorship, or like he let people talk freely in Turkey and didn't comply with the govt. there, or like he let people talk freely in Saudia Arabia and didn't give the data of the users to the govt. which then totally didn't kill/jail them. Or wait for it, that's my favorite: Like he openly criticizes Chinese govt. or their literal concentration camps and totally never praise the govt. or even writes in their state sponsored official party propaganda.

Or how he totally didn't ban many journalists or the kid who tracks the public information about his flights. He definitely didn't fire the engineer who made him look like a clueless idiot by speaking the truth, he also totally didn't fire the other engineers who showed them that his engagement is actually down.

Totally 100% free speech absolutist.

@Chutebox: hate speech is part of speech. It's only a bad thing when there aren't other voices to challenge it. That's what happened with nazis, and it's why it's important to have a wide variety of beliefs and opinions.

Personally I don't like racists, but I think they should be able to say what they want. End of the day, living with all that hate is just screwing themselves over lol. Frankly its not just pathetic, but also sad.

But the left uses racism as cover for alot of things...like illegal immigration for one thing haha. And the right is the only one calling them out on this stupidity.

Like I said, it's important to have as many voices and opinions out there as possible.

Had no idea that was a thing, and I couldn't care less. I've never used Twitter, and I certainly wouldn't start.

@Pedro said:

To me, he's just a rich dude who wants to own things and put his name on things. He could basically end poverty with the kind of wealth he has, but he chooses to not do anything similar to that. It's more important for Elon to buy Twitter, sell cars and go to Mars, while counting his money. In other words, he's just an egotistical douchebag to me, like almost every really rich person in the world.

I've no idea why anyone would love Elon Musk. Not sure why anyone would hate him either when he's just doing what another idiot with the same wealth would've done.

@Pedro: he didn't even want to buy Twitter, he just enjoyed the limelight toying with the idea got him, then he probably done goofed up on a head full of LSD again and by making his best last offer publicly he locked himself into buying it

Similar thing happened when he talked about taking Tesla private, he was to witness account on LSD for several days jacking off and calling up escorts to come over and trying to get Grimes' collaborative partner involved in some group sex thing repeatedly. Musks asked her something "do you dare me to take Telsa private, dare me I dare you to dare me", and he just did it. Then the phone started ringing off the hook and it was full time panic mode damage control. Yeah, I'm gonna guess his "last best offer" was something like that happening.

Do you not realize that there is a difference between arguing and harassment? People arguing with me is one thing. But some people, especially in the anti-vax community take it waaaaaaaaaaaaay too far.

And speech has been less free on Twitter since Musk took over. Musk bows down to authoritarian governments all the time to restrict the speech of those who live there. The old Twitter fought tooth and nail to protect those rights, and won.

Disagree big time that speech on Twitter was more free before Elon. Old Twitter in no way fought "tooth and nail" for free speech before Elon. That's just incorrect.

And when it comes down to randos talking on an open platform on the internet. The line between argument and harrasment most of the time comes down to the sensitivity of the individual.

If it's direct threats of violence or doxxing I get, if it's people you find to be rude or insulting while you are engaging with them, that's on the individual. There is a block option always there... you arent forced to engage with anyone on the platform.

Old Twitter fought hard to protect the free speech of people, especially those in countries with strong restrictions on speech such as Turkey.

Perhaps you should know what kind of behaviour I consider harassment, before you jump to conclusions. Do you think people such as myself and the Medical Twitter community, simply get some dumb people throwing insults and nothing more? No, what people who are pro-science face on Twitter is legit harassment.

Do you think people such as myself, Johnathan Stea, Peter Hotez and others, simply get some dumb people throwing insults and nothing more? No, what people who are pro-science face on Twitter is legit harassment.

Again people going to a home of someone to harass someone, doesn't even fall in the realm of X/Twitter. At that point we aren't talking about social media at all any more or Twitter. I don't think this is an accurate example of what you mentioned to me. Is this what someone did to you? Did you argue with someone on Twitter and they came to your home??

Your example with Turkey is anecdotal. It doesn't prove Twitter was more for free speech before Elon acquired the company.

Not to mention, Turkey doesnt value free speech. Only in America is it guaranteed in our constitution. Examples of foreign coountries inplementing thier law on to Twitter, is out of Twitters control, unless they want to pull it from the country entirely. This is nothing new.

I prefer not talking about what I have received on Twitter, however, I will say that legally, it is considered harassment. The same also applies to a LOT of healthcare workers on there.

I suggest you read PC_Rocks post again. And it doesn't matter if those countries don't value free speech. The fact that Twitter stood up for the people there in protecting their free speech speaks magnitude for who is genuine about it, and who is simply virtue signaling.

Once again, Twitter fought those countries and won. Since Musk took over, people in these countries have lost their freedom of speech on the platform.

@kvallyx: ignore the something wrong with that, it's more about he done goofed while (probably) tripping balls on hallucinogens, he never wanted to take the reins on Twiiter, but he forced himself into something he couldn't back out of, and obviously he tried to renege on the deal, but it was a futile effort in the end.

Rather than just let some competent people take the reins he's tried to micromanage the whole operation and doing an awful job at it. I know this here clip is a joke but probably not far off how things have played out these last few months.

You do realize people do more than just do irl stalking, right? I prefer not talking about what I have received on Twitter, however, I will say that legally, it is considered harassment.

I can tell you this! Twitter censored Americans more with the prior ownership than with Elons owning it.

And this is an American company that's in America.. that has a 1 st amendment.

So these anecdotal examples, with countries like Turkey and Saudi Arabia, who don't believe in freedom speech in anyway, thier governments never have, these countries do not have it anyway. Means little to nothing to me. The people in them don't fight for free speech, thier governments don't either, it doesn't matter.

If you argument is that old Twitter had more free speech in Saudia Arabia before Elon, but Americans have more free speech on Twitter with Elon.

That's still a massive win for me, as an American.

Sorry Turkey and Saudia Arabia, but Twitter won't fix your anti free speech governments.

You sound incredibly selfish.

I encourage Saudi Arabia and Turkey to plagerize our Bill of Rights!!

It's awesome!! I hope the whole world copies it. It's amazing.

But you got to really want it, you might even have to fight your own government to get it!!

That Elon guy is the devil!! How dare he let people talk freely.

100% better now than when it was the previous owner

Who claimed X or Elon was 100% free speech absolutist??

Yeah no one... you clown
