Half-Life: Alyx is Valve’s VR return to the Half-Life series. It’s the story of an impossible fight against a vicious alien race known as the Combine, set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2.

Playing as Alyx Vance, you are humanity’s only chance for survival. The Combine’s control of the planet since the Black Mesa incident has only strengthened as they corral the remaining population in cities. Among them are some of Earth’s greatest scientists: you and your father, Dr. Eli Vance.

As founders of a fledgling resistance, you’ve continued your clandestine scientific activity—performing critical research, and building invaluable tools for the few humans brave enough to defy the Combine.

Lean to aim around a broken wall and under a Barnacle to make an impossible shot. Rummage through shelves to find a healing syringe and some shotgun shells. Manipulate tools to hack alien interfaces. Toss a bottle through a window to distract an enemy. Rip a Headcrab off your face and throw it out the window.

My guess on score and reception? Best VR title of all time [so far], so I imagine at least a 9/10....if not a 10/10.

Guys, for you naysayers....is it the VR that turns you off? If so, why? Or are you just a bunch of hipsters that like to hate on awesome stuff you have every reason to like?

I mean, this is Valve we are talking about. This is a company that is for gamers, by gamers. They are not some publicly-traded company that is beholden to their stockholders first. They make this because they believe in it, and they think it is important (of course they do it for financial reasons, they are a business, I don't think I need to say that but you'll always have the "oh don't kid yourself they're only doing it for money" arguments).

I don't think they would gamble the Half-Life IP on a VR title if they did not have faith in it. And I have faith in Valve. So Alyx is going to be awesome.

Got my Index in the mail, too, it will be here on Tuesday. Yay!!!!! I like my Rift but I hate screen door effect.

I didn't request it, just a suggestion. Oh never mind, I'm gonna give Alyx a 9/10. HL series has been great to me back in the 90's and 07, I move on from the series and now Valve is back in town, I'm not interested in Alyx but I do hope for those who are, hope Alyx meets your expectations and no doubt this is the VR killer app everyone has been waiting for!

I look forward to seeing gamers reaction to this game.

alyx is rail shooter, Halo is proper shooter where you move. Halo wins, Alyx lose.

@uninspiredcup: btw, it will be like goldeneye despite goldeneye was terrible it was recieve perfect 10s because it was first consoel FPS and console didnot had standard.

in that case alyx will recieve 10/10 or high 9s because VR have no standard at all. compare it to real PC FPS, it will be pale in comparision.

after few month. no one will be talking about this game. since only 15 people will play.

valve wont accept that its failure because they are making thier own VR set. thats why this game exist. they dont have passion anymore.

Goldeneye wasn't terrible (one of the highest rated games ever by gamers and critics), and you can't expect a 1997 console at that time to have fast jumping and twitch shooting motions like Quake or something. In fact, Goldeneye helped broaden the definition of FPS games, because a lot of enemies (even in PC games) were either braindead or bullet sponges with dumb AI pathing. In Goldeneye, you could shoot at different body parts to slow a group of flanking enemies down, and shoot guns out of their hands, and you could replay levels and approach encounters differently.

I remember you swearing with complete authority that Alyx would be a cheap throwaway game (turns out it has the biggest Valve team working on it ever) and would be short (it's reportedly 15-20+ hours, like previous HL games). You say lots of wacky things!

I think HL: Alyx will get 9s and 10s in most places, and will get a 9 here on Gamespot.

It'll get nude mods and the player will be able to play with his breasts, evolution of what Trespasser started.

So much anger from the usual suspects 10/10 lol.

Curious to find out what other gameplay features are toggable comfort options (ie, barnacles choking you on the ground instead of pulling you up towards them)

Once this hits it will be time to dig up multiple threads where I said half life was not dead as well as that VR would take over.

I didn't fall for anything, I posted a gif of a women who looks disinterested in it to show how much I care for it. Where it comes from I don't care, as it got my point across.

When making a hype thread, it's not recommended to use a score of a poll cause its unreliable. If you want to make a future hype thread with a poll score, by all means.

Then a hype thread is pointless, we need to know whether it flopped or met hype.

Its SW, taking away polls take away the fun, and it also shows that even with all the shilling the OP has done for this particular game he has no faith in it LOL.

One thing this will lack is vehicle sections, but those were generally always the most divisive section of Halflife 2.

Be super cool if you could go on those combine walker things in VR, but Valve will be conscious of people puking their guts out.

That sounds really cool you know what would be perfect for VR is a pod ride like in HL2.

Gameplaywise goldeneye was terrible. the aiming was awful. if exact same game releasing same time on PC. it would not score more than 5/10.
