Microsoft has been dead last every gen. They make the worst consoles historically.
Meanwhile nintendo is always breaking records and sony holds most records.
What does it feel like to always be last pick?
Gen 6: Sony 1, Xbox 2, Nintendo 3
Gen 7: Nintendo 1, Xbox 2, Sony 3(Sony only surpassed Xbox when the gen was already over)
Gen 8: Sony 1, Xbox 2, Nintendo 3
Gen 9: Nintendo 1(so far), Sony and Xbox not out yet
Nah they haven’t been dead last every gen.
Now that's a weird breakdown of gens.
1. Xbox never beat Sony. Gen 7 Xbox = Sony....and Sony kept selling post gen.
2. Gen 9 hasn't started, Switch uses current gen PS4 and Xbox games outside of it's exclusives (many of which are ports of wiiu games) making Switch's library completely "current" gen.
A new gen is only relevant when there are games that can't be played on previous "gen". That is what a "new generation" means.
So yeah MS has been last every gen.
Sony and MS tied for last place Gen 7
It's your mistake (PS3 actually outsold 360 every year it was on the market) putting MS above PS3 gen 7 and Gen 9 the Switch will not even be able to play Gen 9 multiplats thus it's silly to call switch a Gen 9 system.
ms took half of sonys install base last gen so wouldn't call it an entire failure this generation has been a complete fail. I have hope they have learnt a lot and wont make the same mistakes if they do then they might as well call it a day in the hardware market.
@n64dd: Well, I'm glad that Nintendo have managed to survive despite disasters like the Wii U and Gamecube. Love the kiddie games they provide, but I do pack the Nintendo away after each use....dont want to be embarrassed by people seeing it.
Besides being a pretty pitiful attempt at a troll post, it's also factually wrong. Try harder.
@Pedro: it's hard believe you enjoy games with that robotic few on material things. In case you didnt know video games are a materialistic things made by companies as well
With your logic the only thing you should truly enjoy is pitty pat with other humans lol
How can you not feel a console on a figurative level ?

Consoles are machines. People who feel emotionally attached to a console has personal problems. People who make a console part of their identity also have personal problems. None of this relates to games. Do you feel like you won when a console company sells more than another company because you bought their hardware? That is an odd sense of accomplishment.
You been drinking a little to much during the quarantine perhaps?
Drinking....too much? What's that?
Is that like when you drink too much water and you have to pee a lot?

No and that's bullshit. A generation begin the moment a major player releases a new system that supercedes their previous one. Simple as that. No need for your arbitrary bullshit definitions.
Switch is a 9th gen system. It overlaps with the 8th gen. Wii U is an 8th gen system, it was released the year before the PS4 and X1 for Christ's sake, how is it 7th gen?
1999-2005 Gen 6
2005-2012 Gen 7
2012 to 2017 Gen 8
2017 to ??? Gen 9

They have the best one now, Nintendo is for incels.
We gonna pretend that the Wii U doesn't exist and that the Wii's success was mostly families playing Wii Sport?
Stay ignorant console gamer's stay ignorant especially during my self isolation period.
Nintendo abandoned the gamer's wanted a console to play Nintendo games and multiplat's a long time ago... As someone who grew up in a modest income family this I cannot allow to go ignored by you fan girls.
I have a Switch but since the NGC Nintendo has been dead to me, only with the Switch they sparked some interest but that again is a hand held that again kills any chance of Multi platform gaming any kid who's parents cant afford two consoles is going to miss out A LOT.
That's my two cents on the matter.
Some are okay with playing games in 24fps and resolutions from 2003, i'm not. Nintendo doesn't offer anything. They don't even know what's an online infrastructure. Imagine that in 2020 lol.
Playing games that I very much enjoy on a platform that I very much enjoy the controller and ecosystem of feels great so I’m doing just fine.
@Juub1990: Its adorable when people try to claim that the switch is next gen lol. Its current gen that can't run the majority or current gen titles, but somehow you think its next gen?!? Sorry but the WiiU was gen 7, it was a slightly less powerful ps3/360, Switch is a lot less powerful ps4/Xone. Get your facts straight kiddo.
It's because MS has no business being in the console business. They never know what they're doing, which is why they consistently lose to Sony and Nintendo.

Gens aren't decided by power else the Wii was a 6th gen system because it wasn't a lot more powerful than the OG Xbox. Also, the Wii U is slightly more powerful than the PS3/360, not the other way around.
And you're the one telling me to get my facts straight lol.
Last place:
Gen 6 - Dreamcast
Gen 7 - Xbox 360
Gen 8 - Wii U
OP's claim only holds true for Gen 7. Ironically, the Xbox 360 is the best-selling Xbox console, yet it's the only one to come last place.
Just remember when you say Xbox 360 finished last to add an * as MS stopped reporting sales before the 360 stopped selling, so we don't have official numbers at the end of last gen.

You're taking the term "next gen" too literally, when a gaming company makes a new console (minus mid-gen upgrades) its starts a new gen. That's how this works.

Thank you, it's really that simple. The WiiU lasted 5 years. That's an entire generation of consoles.
@Grey_Eyed_Elf: Switch is better than any xbox console ever made.
Nah... I'm sorry but the Xbox 360 was something special and Nintendo at that time missed out on one of the greatest generations of gaming ever. Which is exactly what is happening now...
I'm sorry but that's a LOT of games VERY much worth playing that are not on the Switch and those are just the ones I remember.
You don't want me to list the games on the 360 that weren't on a Nintendo console at that time or hell even now your list of 5-6 games on the Switch that makes it worth owning isn't enough to compete.
The Switch has 3-4 exclusive games worth playing then a bunch of indie's and a hand full of ports that look A LOT worse than the game running on a budget gaming PC from 2015 with GTX 950.

Smash Ultimate
Mario Odyssey
Astral Chain
Luigi's Mansion 3
Fire Emblem Three Houses
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Super Mario Maker 2
Pokemon Sword and Shield
And so on...
At least don't be dishonest.

Well you were talking to a cow, and let's be honest they're all over the place with the news they have lost the power next gen.

No that's a list of games that are exclusives.
Its not a list of games worth playing because that is subjective. TO me only the highlighted games are worth playing and Zelda... You can keep the rest.
If you guys want to argue with opinions then prepare to never win if you want to argue with facts and how many games the Nintendo consoles have missed out on then you lose again.

Yet you listed a bunch of trash like The Division 2 and fucking Fallout 4. Then a last gen game that was remade in GTA V but dismissed ports.
Now you're going with "muh opinion".
Your post was nothing short of dishonest.

Dishonest no.
You people are arguing opinion by disputing others opinions and I'm tired of it. What's wrong with the Division 2?... and Fallout 4?... oh are 8's or 9's not good enough?... Or does my opinion on those games not count?... Stahp, what's next.
I never dismissed ports I just said the current generation game's on the Switch are the by a huge margin the worst looking and running versions.
Also GTA 5 released in 2013 and the new consoles arrived 2013 it was less of a port but more a cross platform game that looked SUBSTANTIALLY better.
The Switch on the other hand had a cross platform game... Zelda Breath of the Wild which looks the same on the WiiU.
Funny how you say "MUH opinion" right after spouting yours about 2 games. STAHP.
@i_p_daily: Ummm...no. But coming from you I'm not surprised at you having zero idea how anything works.
Guess we're already into next gen with Sony and MS both bringing out the Pro and X, derp derp derp.
The WiiU was a huge failure and Nintendo rushed to get a new system (and gimmick) out on the market, this one worked and is selling but its still part of the current gen as it came out years ago at this point and isn't even close to either current system as far as power goes. Its no where close to next gen, dear god even typing that makes me laugh at you two.

Instead of parroting the same shit, how about you address the actual argument. None of us arguing it is close to next-gen in power but that's the thing, generations aren't defined by power. The Switch is closer to the 360/PS3 than it is to the X1 in performance so is it a 7th gen system?
You haven't addressed the Wii either which is marginally stronger than the first Xbox and hilariously below the 360/PS3 yet I don't see you call it a 6th gen system.
Switch is Nintendo's 9th gen system and WiiU was their 8th gen system. The WiiU came out in 2012 and the PS4/Xbox One came out in 2013, the next year. It lasted 5 years, flopped and Nintendo in 2017 got their 9th gen system out.
Simple as that really.

As was already explained to you X/PRO were upgrades, and we were told this from day 1, and EVERY game that was on the X/PRO worked on XB1/PS4.
Are you really that dense that you're trying to say the WiiU & Switch are in the same generation, that's the dumbest thing I've read.
Its pretty simple to understand, but somehow you don't, I would work on that if I were you.

Its all been addressed. You just can't handle it because your so fascinated by their first party games that you can't comprehend that ALL games matter and that Nintendo's consoles for the past 3 generations have been SUBSTANTIALLY under powered and price to performance wise the worst consoles ever.
All Nintendo has is Wii sales and DS sales with their same old exclusive IP's... The actual TOTAL games library they missed out on was substantial and the quality of those consoles have been abysmal in terms of performance for their time.
