How long will it take for PC to catch up to Xbox One X?

So we all know that X1X is bringing that 1070 power for 4k resolution for $500

How long do you think it will take before you can build an equally powered PC for about the same price?

Or do you think there will be a significant X1X price drop before we even get close?

Moderately high-end gaming PCs are already more powerful than Xbox One X.

What are you trying to say?

No we do not.

Not to mention the slow-ass CPU has a negative value.

It'll be tough, because I don't think it's possible to actually buy a CPU as shit as the X1X CPU in this day and age.

I do know that it will be an amazing time to build a new budget PC when this bad boy launches in a month or two:

FFS, the X1X does NOT have a 1070 level gpu in it. How many times we have to go through this?

And then there is the aspect of its weak cpu.

Bang for the buck at $500? Absolutely. But its not going to outperform a high end PC. Give probably a year or so before you can build a PC that powerful for the same price though

Which is meaningless because at 4K the X1X will be stuck at 30fps or less whereas the 1070 can go above that. Unless you have several games with an unlocked frame rate being tested on both the PC/1070 vs the X1X, comparisons aren't apples to apples.

I dont think you can get that kind of performance for that price. Xbox1X is probably a good deal in a vacuum ...

But if you take a step back and consider a lot of those that will buy this probably already bought and xbox1 or a ps4... and many even could have already bought a x1s or pro as well... the deal is less and less attractive. The advantages of just building a PC starts to rear its ugly head again. Especially considering when the next "Gen" comes around and starts to sell you back all the games you just bought on these consoles.

I will never be the person to tell someone how to spend their money. I cant say what has value to anyone other than to myself. I understand that exclusives and platforms are also variables. My comments are specific to the OP in this thread. I just think the price comparison is no longer an automatic win for consoles when compared to PC gaming.

The price of the GTX 1060 and RX 480/580 has gone up since their release due to ethereum. That makes it more difficult, not to mention I've only seen a single UHD drive for the PC market.

In summer of 2013 you could build a $499 PC(complete build) that was more powerful than XO and about as powerful as PS4, with a few free games to boot. To beat X1X right now take at least $800.

Buy one of these, drop a 1060 in it, and Robert's your mother's brother.

At $500? We will need the next Nvidia GPUs to launch for me to feel good about a prediction. A Ryzen 3 CPU equivalent is more than enough to smoke the XOX CPU, but 4K resolution requires a lot of punch and GPU tech isn't quite there yet. Especially not at the $200 price range. It also doesn't help that UHD Bluray drives require all sorts of silly requirements. Not to mention the drives are still almost $200.

I would say 2019 will be the year we can make a Xbox One X killer for $500. But right now? No way. I just build a PC for my wifes Aunt that just uses word and Facebook. I put a Ryzen 5 in for future-proofing and just a cheap GT 1030 GPU and the thing was almost $600 when everything was said and done. That's with a bluray drive, boot SSD, 1TB harddrive, 430W PSU, only 8GB of DDR4, a mATX case and mobo with Windows 10, keyboard and mouse. To beat a Xbox One X now, you need to spend about $900. There is an OBVIOUS value proposition with the Xbox One X.

Not many games will make the 1070 cap out at 30fps even in 4K. The only one I can think of is Ghost Recon Wildlands which is the most demanding game at the moment and the 1070 still manages 33fps in 4K.

They're also probably using some crazy $1000 CPUs that isn't helpful when we're trying to price a PC the same as the X1X

Ah shit, I forgot about 30fps. But still, you can't find a 1070 for less than $400 right now. It will take a BIG jump from the xx60 models at a sub $200 price point to make this goal obtainable.

Thanks to bit miners trying to gold rush, the overall pricing for nearly all PC parts have significantly increased and it doesn't help that we're in the middle of transitioning to DDR4 which is also making prices increase due to factories switching over to only producing it and more older rams more "rare and priceless".

We probably may not be able to build a PC that can match Xbox One in price to performance until the next Pascal refresh or Volta release.

@drlostrib: The 1000$ CPU is meaningless. Even a weak ass CPU can easily run games at 30fps. The point still stands that we do not know whether or not the X1X GPU is equivalent to a 1070. The only way to compare them is with games that have an uncapped frame rate and that reaches 60fps on neither of them so we can know exactly where they stand but this comparison hasn't been done.

Sure they perform the same ar 30fps but then not a single game out there will tap out a 1070 at 30fps unless you use a shitload of MSAA.

The fact that we're hearing reports of checkerboard rendering make me doubtful the X1X will be equivalent to a 1070.

Everybody likes to say the X1X is a good value and that you get a lot of performance for what you pay. That doesn't mean shit if the console can not do 60fps on all games. It is a waste. I would rather put the cost of the X1X towards a balanced gaming PC so that I can play games properly. None of that 30fps bullshit with that half-ass CPU.

My point is that the X1X is irrelevant when talking performance. It does not meet the necessary requirements and is a waste of money. Shit is still shit, regardless of how cheap you sell it for. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. If you buy a $500 PC, it will probably be shit too. So, spend more and get something good instead of wasting money on shit.

Already has it in the form of "temporal filtering" on Watch Dogs 2 and R6: Siege. Wouldn't be surprised if it starts showing up in other Ubi titles like Assassin's Creed. Why not? Seems to work well enough.

@drlostrib: The X1X may offer the hardware bundled for cheaper than what you can buy with the same money on PC, but in the end, that hardware has little value as it can not deliver a proper gaming experience. It is a waste. So, it does not matter if it is cheap if the value is not there. I am not going to waste $500 on something that has little value to me. I will keep that $500 and save up for something that delivers the necessary performance and has value to me.

Let's not forget that many people can already just upgrade their GPU for less than the price of the console and have similar or better performance. That is money better spent.

I know this is a joke thread, but if we're being serious I would say it is not possible since you wont be able to build a PC that is as limited or closed off as a console.

You get less overhead from the console OS, but are limited to only playing games and consuming media (and you will also be playing by the rules set by either MS, Sony, or Nintendo).

Consoles are just straight up pointless to me since I do other things like CAD work and programming. I'd gladly pay double the cost of an X1X for a PC since I'll need one anyway - I don't need an X1X for anything - literally nothing. That doesn't mean the X1X wont fill the requirements of other people though. That's the beauty of choice.

Short answer: your question is bad.

Really short answer: 1 year.

Everytime it becomes possible, MS just unlocks that secret power. They learned the mumbo-jumbo magic from Sony.

Ah, yes, the X1X. That console that can manage 4k 60fps mostly only on racing games and indies. When, oh when, will PC ever catch up.
