@R4gn4r0k: Alyx was on discount pre-launch but not by much. But yea, would have happily payed full price either way. Valve aren't in the habit of pumping out shit.
Beyond that Desperados III, developer who had proven themselves and a genre that will typically get lower marketing/sales.

Yeah sometimes I would buy a game full price, not just because I want to play the game, but also because I like a certain developer or I like the fact that they are making a game in a niche genre.
Feels like 'believing' in a project, more than being hyped by marketing or dying to play a game day one.
The more a game or publisher pulls shady stuff (preorder DLC, launch day DLC, multiple season passes, 5 kinds of deluxe editions) and the game is a broken product on its release with promises of fixes during its 'live service' ... The less inclined I am to buy on release or to buy for full price.
I've always felt this way: as soon as you announce DLC or season passes, I'm waiting for the inevitable complete edition.
I can't remember the last time I paid full price for a game. It has been many years. I rarely play games at launch because they are usually broken. I just wait for them to be fixed and buy them at a cheaper price. Also, my backlog is so huge that there are few games that I actually want to play at launch anyway. By the time I make it a priority to play a game, it is usually much cheaper. For the games that I decide to play at launch, I usually get some pre-order discount or cheap key.
Rarely. Usually patient enough to wait for sales. The last game I bought at launch price was Horizon Zero Dawn PC. Before that, Cyberpunk 2077.
I always do my research before making my purchases, so I've never regretted it so far. Certainly didn't regret it with HZD. Cyberpunk is still TBD.
Would guess it’s 50/50, honestly in a financial place where saving 20-30$ doesn’t really matter so if I want a game I buy it. That being said I do have a very limited play time, so lots of games are discounted before I get around to picking them up!
And of course the number of games I actually buy; has been lowered a bit after I gotten game pass!
Well, that depends on the game I'm very interested. I paid full price on TLOU2, Ghost of Tsushima, and Cyberpunk 2077 and 3 of those games have met my expectations. I went with "almost always" as I have no issue paying full price on a game but at the same time, I will go to CDKey and get a discount if I can.
Edit: Just so you know, I wanna try and support developers for their hard work on the game and like to pay full price because of it, and trust me, the people who work on both TLOU2 & Ghost of Tsushima have really earned it. CDPR is another story but CP2077 still served its purpose.
Did it twice in my life: Left 4 Dead (day 1 purchase on Steam) and Mafia 2 (ebay preorder). At this point I don't even bother buying most games at 75% discount as I already have hundreds of games in my Steam library that I won't even play, lol, so instead of buying something "new" at a discount, I just look over my dormant games and install one or two of them.
Once per year on average if I had to guess. For example God of War, Doom Eternal, etc. Developers with a rock solid track record. I have not been disappointed!
WOW you guys are a bunch cheap bastards, you're happy to pay full price for consoles and graphics cards etc, but don't want to support developers, and wait for sales, smh.
If i'm interested in a game i will buy it at release or close to it all the time, but i like to support devs.
On average I’d say that I probably buy at least one game new at full price and I probably get 2 to 3 games a month on average. I guess it’s like 50/50 then. So I guess my vote goes towards “Sometimes”.
Not many unless I am compelled at launch to get it, one only needs to wait a few weeks anyways and it is discounted. Even then, most games I got these last few months at launch price were not the standard $60 release, like Star Wars Squadrons was $40, Katamari Reroll on Xbox and Observer System Redux were $30 each, and I forget what Rebel Galaxy Outlaw was but it was cheap. And because it was holiday season these last few months most of what I got I got on sale. I think Hitman 3 was last $60 AAA game I got and before that CO2077 and before that AC Valhalla but I got that refunded because of the shit state that launched in. I would have done same to CP2077 but I am fascinated by how bad this game is. I used refund money from AC Valhalla to get Yakuza Like A Dragon instead.
Before that... not many, I might have to go back to earlier in year. In early 2020 there was Doom Eternal, Zombie Army 4, Resident Evil 3... I can't think of much else. Thanks to Game Pass, and my swollen backlist, my new full price AAA buying habits have slowed. Oh wait, got the Avengers game, mostly out of a duty as a friend so I could co-op.
Last game I payed full price for was Star Wars Squadrons and before that was Red Dead 2. I did go halves with my son on the new Black Ops since we do the license share so i guess you could say 1-3 games a year for me. I usually only pay full price for multiplayer games that my small group wants to get day 1.
Sometimes I see something grabs my eye like
Super Mario 3D all stars (Switch Lite) - which i already put in 120 hours into and crushing it. pre ordered on my switch lite.
RE2 Remake (PC) - I loved the demo i was blown away I grew up with RE2 on PS1 and played it at night in the dark thats MY RE. Officer Leon is my guy. Thats MY resident evil i bought that pre ordered i didn't beat it cuz im not a big horror guy but i just love what they did with it. Pre ordered on steam
Cyberpunk 2077 (PC) - I fell in love with cyberpunk envrionment setting its literal my dream game blade runner and dredd metro city one and im still waiting to play it and i will eventually on PC when they fix it. Pre ordered on steam
Now it will be almost never.
So how would you buy something like elden ring? Unless its on pc from a site such as cdkeys, there's no way to get a nice deal on the ps5. ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT YOU'LL BE WAITING ON A PRICE DROP?????
Almost always. GamePass, PS+ and XBLG is pretty much the only way I don’t pay full price for a game. I think I got a couple freebies on PC too, but those are rarely things I play.
Depends on what's releasing, but lately it's been less often. Not about the cost, just not a whole lot of games I feel compelled to scoop right away. Usually playing catch up, by the time I'm ready to play something it's already discounted.
Sometimes. Maybe 6 a year give or take. Since I've gone all digital on Xbox and Playstation, minus some steelbooks, I usually wait for digital sales.

If i'm interested in a game i will buy it at release or close to it all the time, but i like to support devs.
You buy lots of microtransactions as well? That's the best way to support the devs.
If it's a game I know I will enjoy I pay full price. So if it's had good press, feedback, and it's from a series I like I'll do it.
But I get ticked if I pay full price for a game and it turns out to be crap or not as good as expected.
I paid Full price for The Order 1886, No Man's Sky, and Fallout 76. After 76 I said "NEVER AGAIN"
I got Control Ultimate Edition for $35, and LOVED IT! Would have been ok to pay full price for that, but I wasn't sure on it.
I paid $35 for Valhalla, and I'm really glad I didn't pay $60, it's not as good as people say it is......at least to me.
