Is Ghost of Tsushima the most beautiful game of this gen? Better than any PC game?

I'm just in awe of this game. Every time I play it it's eye candy! And I'm playing on a 1080p screen. 4K gamers must really get a kick out of this. I just did this battle, it was sick:

In my opinion, Ghost takes the cake for most beautiful game of this gen. Although Last of Us 2 was pretty damn impressive too, but very brutal and grey. This game nails the colors and aesthetic better. Am I rite, SW? Better than any PC game? From what I've played on PC, I'm inclined to say yes.

I don't play games on PC, at least graphical heavy games anyway....

But Got is damn Close. I'm in awe almost every time I begin playing. SuckerPunch did a fantastic job with this game! All with very short load times as well!

Environment wise, yes. People face wise, I have seen better.

The colours are really pretty in Ghost, but overall I think rdr2 still takes the crown

It's always windy in Tsushima. extremely immersive when you can hear the wind from your speakers, controller and console

Assassins Creed Odyssey is the best looking open world game I've played. Great game? Nope. Beautiful game? Yup.

It's basically a very nice interactive screensaver.

It's crazy how Sony figured out how to get the PS4 Pro to sound like a wind machine. Those engineers over there are wizards! I haven't noticed the controller wind sounds, but it's probably because I'm too close to the loud ass console. The damn controllers die so fast I gotta keep 'em plugged in.

Game is gorgeous. Needs more npc density though. The grass is so dense and nice, it's kinda triggering me with a weird nice feeling as if I want to roll more in it. Can't wait for what AAA games provide us for next gen.

That being said, I'd assume there would be mods for PC games that would make it look better + higher res and fps that adds to the total positive visual experience for some. So.. I'd guess, no.

It's not that bad though. GoTsu is still a gorgeous game.

LMAO at hiding behind 'beautiful' because in technical graphics it isn't even the best on consoles let alone PC. TC didn't realize that he can't even hide behind art direction because Ori exists.

No. It has its moments, but there are better games in the visuals department.

The quality and density and variation of foliage is unlike any other game on consoles.

So yeah, technically GoT is one of the best games on consoles.

GoT is nice looking but...meh.

Anyway, modded Kingdom Come: Deliverance looks amazing, even better than vanilla RDR 2 imo. I mean it approaches photorealism. That first picture looks real to me, you have to stare at some of the close shadows to tell it is rendered.

Modded RDR 2, however, is simply incredible.

Yeah art direction in all those games is great, Tyranny included.

Something about hand-drawn backgrounds is still stunning.

Even if that was true, that's just one aspect. Pretty sure, KCD and RDR 2 has better foliage even on consoles.

Yeah but the way I see it: there is no one true graphics king anymore.

Instead there are a few games now that each excel in an area or maybe multiple.

TLOU 2 for example in its animations, but I also think its levels are incredibly detailed.

Ghost of Tsushima is so detailed in its world and some of its assets like swords and armor, but lacks in NPC detail and animations (fighting animations are good, lip sync is off).

Personally I don't mind this situation.

If you are thinking a game that's head and shoulders above anything like Crysis for its time, then no, but there are definitely games that are unquestionably superior than others technically.

Cyberpunk is.

Also Metro Exodus too but Cyberpunk takes the cake.

People don't really distinguish between technical and just, aesthetics.

It's why when we inevitably get such threads, it's littered with 900 replies with each and every person declaring themselves right.

From what I've seen through the years, many-a pc gamers idea of beautiful is an ENB bloom explosion where everything looks rubbed in black chalk with plastic sex dolls walking around a Frankenstein of assets.

LOL Cyberpunk is bigger and more ambitious than 10 Crysis games.

Crysis after second half turn into linear and scripted.

also Crysis was surpassed by Metro 2033 in 2010, 3 years later but it was not mainstream game made by some big corporation. it was ignored.

The entire Metro series done much better job than Crysis when it comes to graphics actually.

Compare to

Metro 2033 in 2010.

Metro definitely looks better. more atmospheric plus Crysis vanilla version had terrible draw distance, rock disappeared and appeared when you aim down the sight. other that Metro remain in quality while quality of Crysis decline after original game.

Metro Exodus is Crysis of this gen but in bigger scale. semi sandbox, Customizable weapon, but more freedom.

Right, half the time I see reshades that are supposed to blow my mind, it's more like congrats, you made the game look bad.

Graphics king convo is whatever. There's always that handful of games that is at the top of the tech end, and yeah they can be impressive af, no doubt. Trying to split hairs between them is pointless tho.

The tech side of games will obviously always improve, but we've already hit a point where it's not handcuffing art. And some killer art direction does much more for me than having the latest greatest assets and rendering.

In terms of atmosphere yes but in terms of attention to detail probably not I have to give that to RDR2.

If we limit this to consoles, I think that Assassin's Creed Origins on the xbox one x is the most beautiful game, followed by Odyssey. (I haven't played Red Dead yet)

Yea, when talking about "the best looking" games it's not so much the AAA shit but stuff like this that is "mind blowing" but gorgeous shit like this.

It's a lot like movies, when Jurassic Park came out and we saw big fucking dinosaurs walking around we creamed our pants collectively.

But then technology improved and just become so normalized that all these masses effects lost their wow factor to become "eh, whatever".

Kinda like that with AAA gaming now.

Err, no. RDR2 on PC is future proof considering a 2080 Ti can't max out the game even at 1440p. It's almost to the level of Crysis when that released. RDR2 is definitely the king of technical graphics as of right now.

You can argue subjective art style till you're blue in the face, no one cares what you prefer in that sense.

GOT is so damn breathtaking I really hope it comes to PC someday. I enjoy the PS4 version looks amazing but on PC you could really push it to it's limits.

I haven't played it, I watched the Honest Trailer for it and there was a scene with like a temple in a forest or something and I admit my jaw dropped a little. So i'd say it's up there

It's a shame about HZD. As for console devs not having the capabilities taking advantage of PCs I think it's a mixed bag not all devs are created equal obviously.

Ghosts has some really piss poor texture work on things like the ground, and some objects. The facial animation is not great, and cutscenes are stiff as a board. Games a lot of fun though.

I'd personally put TLoU2 as best looking so far.

I think RDR2 beats it overall, and DS in terms of the environment. Overall, it's definitely up there. The faces took a hit from the reveal, but still look decent... Although the messed-up lip-sync for the Japanese voiceover was annoying. Also, the HDR implementation was a bit whack, and really suffered in bright scenes.

Even tho crysis 3 was released in 2013, people gotta remember the xbox360/ps3 versions were hella downgraded compared to the pc in textures and lighting lol, so the pc version actually was a next gen game before ps4/xbox one even hit.

Never liked Crysis 3 models, always looked like they were coated in grease with a sharpen filter.

Even something like Source (1), the models tended to have a more natural quality to them.

maybe if it was on PC. on the potato 4? no...
