Is Horizon Zero Dawn the prettiest game of this gen so far?

It's very impressive for a console game and it even competes with the top PC games in the graphics department such as Battlefield 1 and Far Cry 4. Kudos to Gurilla Games for making such a pretty game that not only looks great, but is also very stable. Your thoughts, SW? Do we have a new graphics King (Queen)?

Zelda looks better

Too bad that is pretty much its only really outstanding quality.

Maybe if they concentrated on everything else other than that Zelda wouldn't be killing it right now.

But I guess the Sony user-base is pretty shallow, from David Cage to Naughty Dog, it's pretty clear a cinematic presentation comes first and foremost.

Witcher 3 on all platforms looks better, but Horizon is a great looking game.

Forza Horizon 3 looks better.

It does look incredible. I'm particulary impressed with the amount of action the engine handles. Have been in battles with over 30 enemies and allies on screen, some of a size of a building!

Don't even own a Playstation 4 to be able to play this beauty. It does look amazing...

Lets be fair, the Xbox One is approximately 5-7 years behind these kind of visuals. Its incredible what Sony was able to achieve on such a weak system. If MS had talented first party, they too may've had something that doesn't look like it was released in 2010.

Yuck. No. Everything is so blocky, especially character faces. Needs the "No More Blocky Faces" mod from Skyrim.

Indecently, the game reminds me of modded Skyrim A LOT, in terms of looks. Animations are obviously better because Bethesda can't animate to save their lives. But environmentally it looks like Skyrim with a texture pack and parallax along with "Dat Grass" mod. Characters look like they just had a standard overhaul like you can see all over NexusMods, just globally and not just the player character. Throw in an ENB and call it a day.

Honestly, I'm not that impressed by it. The robo-dinos look cool, but everything else just looks so....average.

I've been playing Horizon every day since it came out and it is truly a beautiful looking game. I personally think it looks better than The Witcher 3 on consoles. Uncharted 4 is the only game on consoles that looks better in my opinion.

It's one of the most beautiful games ever made period. Anyone who says otherwise is either a blind idiot or is lying. Playing this game on my Pro I'd say it's easily the most beautiful open world game on console by a long shot.

The only other open world game that rivals this is Witcher 3 on Ultra settings on PC. As for console graphics in general the only game that I think may top it graphically is Uncharted 4 on the Pro. Good thing it's also very fun to play. The controls are very fluid and responsive, and hunting the machines is also challenging and rewarding.

The game looks great. The world is entirely seamless. The story is solid, the side quest are equally good. The combat engaging. This game does a lot of good to great stuff with graphics and gameplay. A major upgrade for Guerrilla Games. Its the best looking open world game that is also seamless.

Such a unique game. From the setting, to combat, and storyline. The controls feel as responsive as a platformer , the story is one of the better ones in modern RPGs, the combat is more engaging than most TPS games. Easily the best open world game I've ever played, 9/10 and the world is really good but nowhere as good as Witcher 3 on PS4 (not counting PC here, Witcher 3 PS4 vs Zero Dawn version here) and the Witcher 3 still nails it when it comes to gorgeous environments. Horizon: Zero Dawn is extremely fun to play and very addictive but that's about it as far as looking prettier.

Yes for a open world console game. Its also a fun game to play, Kudos to GG on this one.

Some of the environments are stunning going from snowy mountians, tropical forest to desert/savanah. I found an area that looked like the backdrop to a classic western it was very pretty.

Yea, really takes you out of the world for a second, though it doesnt take long to get back in with the amazing world they created.

it's the best-looking open-world game i've ever seen on any platform. witcher 3 doesn't look nearly as good, though i don't want to make it sound like that game isn't a technical marvel in its own right; horizon is just on another level. decima's potential has me REALLY excited for how kojima will put it to work for death stranding.

I have seen a lot of people who share our opinion so hopefully they will release a patch to slow the transitions down. I agree that it can kind of break the fantasy momentarily. It does not feel realistic the way it changes so fast. Especially the transitions from day to night or night to day. Within those general time periods the changes occur more slowly, but still somewhat too fast. I think the Witcher 3 did a better job in this respect.

Guerrilla should slow the day/night transitions to at least 25% what they are now, and the general passage of time/lighting changes down to 50% the speed they happen now.

It is a super impressive looking game either way. I said earlier that Uncharted 4 is the only console game that looks better, but comparing them again this evening I am not even sure that is true. I think Horizon probably looks better in general.

Witcher 3 maxed out on my PC does not look as good as horizon on my pro. Witcher 3 sports a bunch of lousy textures.

you should never underestimate GG they have released something special lol
