It amazes me that PC gamers spend a lot of money on their rigs just to play ugly games like PUBG

PC gamers are playing: Minecraft, PUBG, Overwatch, CS GO, Indies, WOW, etc....basically games that are graphically outdated AF on their GTX 1080Tis. Why don't you guys demand more? Why don't you guys want games that actually take full advantage of your hardware? Such a waste. I remember when AAA budget PC exclusives was a thing. These days it looks like it's just the Total War games and no one else.

I play plenty of graphically demanding games. It's also nice getting MUCH better performance than consoles.

So im assuming you're a console gamer... does that mean you only play games that push your consoles hardware to the max all the time?

I definitely don't waste my time playing games that look 10+ years old.

Most of those games you mention are so popular because they will run on lots of different PC's. Do you think Minecraft would be the multi billion dollar franchise if it only ran on a high end gaming PC. Or PUGB sold 10 million copies in a few months if it required obscene specs.

Plenty of games on the PC do look utterly stunning.

I mean... if that's your standard that is your standard. Personally i play whatever i want to play, which often leads me to Megaman 4 or 6, ultima online, etc. I cant see saying "hey i have a 980, lets max it out every time i play a game or i wont play that game" as a valid option. But you know what the great thing is about PC? Whatever floats your boat.

@lifelessablaze: Saying all PC gamers play games like that seems like a generalization, no? We have tons of games on PC, including graphically demanding ones, we don't buy this hardware specifically for games like CS:GO, we buy it for AAA titles, although it still does do wonders for games that aren't system intensive.

CS:GO and Overwatch are competitive games where you need a high fps to minimize input lag. Most players even put their settings to low to get as much fps possible (including playing on a lower resolution, ewww). Better graphic cards just means more fps or more graphics options.

Games like Batman, Hitman, Bioshock...I blast the graphics to the max and don't care about input lag cause these are 1 player games.

Games like CS:GO, I lower my graphics if it means I get 30-40 more fps...cause competitive game where speed matters."

When we do, we put our money where our mouths are and a game like Star Citizen get made.

I play a variety of games on my beast pc. Some old. Some new. Some indie. Some AAA with stunning graphics. Purpose of games is to have fun. Not just stare at it.

That's assuming everyone playing the game is primary a pc gamer. I knew plenty of people who played mostly on console but had minecraft on their labtops and home desktop. Quite a lot of people use steam to play these games when there away from Home. Besides PUBG looks at the level of GTA V so its not that bad.

Just because I have a high end rig, doesn't mean I always have to play the most demanding games. I can play whatever the **** I want and not have to worry about performance. I can play a simple game like Hollow Knight or a demanding game like Ghost Recon Wildlands... it doesn't matter. I have the luxury of never having to look at specs for a game and knowing that my rig will perform well. Money well spent. :) With consoles, I am at the mercy of the shit hardware and the developer's optimization decisions. So, if the game is set to run at 30fps, I am fucked. This is why I hate consoles. I am forced to waste money on shit hardware just to play exclusives that my PC could easily run a lot better.

You never 4k do you? Mostly because gamers that happen to like those games also happen to like very demanding titles as well and you can bet they'll be maxing out BattleFront 2 when it comes out. I can bring my 1080 to it's knees just by using VorpX to play GTA 5 in VR mode with less than 30fps which is why I have to use low settings and lower resolution when playing it that way.

Wanna try to play PUBG at ultra and 4K with a 1050 and 8 gb RAM on an HDD and tell me the results ?

PUBG is not a ugly game, lots of people play in very low to get 120/144fps but on ultra the game is above the average visuals

in a couple of months millions of people will be paying $500 + subscription + overpriced games to play PUBG on 30fps on X1X, so a $500 PC like mine that get 50-75fps in med/high is a great buy

I may not be interested in a gaming PC myself but thread is just sad. I play a whole variety of games on my consoles and not all of them have to push them to the max graphically.

I maybe a PC gamer but I have no interest playing PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds from the start! It's just not my cup of tea and for those who are enjoying it, I'm glad they are, more power to them.

PUBG is not as easy to run as Overwatch, CSGO, and WoW. All those games have much lower minimum requirements in comparison to PUBG. Going off the minimum requirement specs you basically need a PC that is at least as strong as the PS4 to run it.

I just bought a laptop that can max out Doom (2016) on Ultra settings at 768p and run 40-50 fps with Vulkan.

I can barely get Thief (2014) to run at Medium settings at a playable framerate.

Poorly optimized games are resource hogs and not everyone on PC plays the games you mentioned. If they did, they would have player bases in the 100 millions.

Damn. I shouldn't have been so short sighted to spend all this money on my rig to play the greatest variety of games from the smallest indie games that look like NES era to the greatest AAA games that blow consoles out of the water.

I'm going to only play games from this gen and limit myself to ones that require an 8K monitor to do it justice. Then I'm going to burn all my discs of games that don't. make the hardware cry.

Who f**king cares what games PC players play as long as they're playing and having fun doing so? My brother bought me an Atari 2600 collection for my ps4 and I'm having a blast playing it, and in the end that's all that matters.

Now as for the topic itself, there are two flaws I could easily point out;

1. Do you know that all players of PUBG, WOW, Minecraft, etc... are playing with GTX 1080's? Or even 1070's for that matter? Chances are many who play low demanding games do so on budget builds, as those can service their gaming needs just fine. PC gaming unlike with consoles isn't a unified cost. The variation in hardware builds and subsequently the product costs is a vastly wide spectrum. Not every custom PC comes to a tab of $3000.

2. Even if someone with a high spec build plays those games, it's not like they don't have plenty of graphically intense games to choose from, or that they limit themselves to just PUBG. They get to enjoy the full palette of games graphics, and to their fullest. If they're spending that much on their machine you can be sure they're also playing Witcher 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Titanfall 2, DOOM, Battlefield 1, Metro, Stalker, or what have you, in addition to the low spec games. They don't have to limit their selection.

Either way it's all about options. Options, options, OPTIONS. Which is the real value of PC gaming.

Most PC owners I know just play LoL all day. A game that can be played on the cheapest laptop...

Only time they play something graphically impressive on their 10 000 euro rigs is when they want to take impressive screenshots for their facebook page or something. So sad.

I'd rather this approach than the inverse where PC gamers play nothing but games with high fidelity and technical visuals, but play like shit.
