Last gen spec Xbox Series S confirmed to hinder Series X (and PS5) by Phil, eww :(

As per the recent Kotaku interview with our favorite flip flop master Phil Spencer, he confirmed that more labor had to be done on the Series consoles due to 2 separate system of very different specs. He then tries to downplay it by giving PC as example but you know, those are PR bullshit we can leave that out. Sigh shocker the super weak last gen spec Series S console is weak compared to the others and will be a hindrance to fully unlock the potential of next gen but hey, its $299.

XSS is like a gift from MS to Sony. Not only does it make the PS5 DE look like a steal at only $100 more, but it is now known as the weakest system for next-gen (deflecting negative attention away from PS5). Sony should be sending Phil a bottle of champagne.

Not even close. The power advantage that the XSX have over the ps5 is NOWHERE near the same ballpark as the power advantage the ps5 have over the XSS. The power difference between the ps5 and the XSX isn't even in the realm of being a "hindrance" towards the XSX. The gap isn't big enough.

Xbox made a lot of revenue even equal or sometimes bigger than Nintendo (Xbox has more 3rd party support and xbox live gold) but I dont think they ever profit judging by so many articles by industry journalist. Don Matrick was responsible for xbox 360 success so I pick that guy.

Impossible a certain developer in system wars told us it was nothing, that developers for years make games for different specs on PC.😂😂😂

It's a shame because without the S, devs could go all out with specs and better tech in their games with all platforms being genuinely next gen capable. The S throws a spanner in the works and imo, it's an unessessary one.

So it takes more time and effort to develop for different levels of performance on a similar platform. Sounds very much like developing for PC to me.

Its not like they can develop a game solely for the 3090 and expect it to work on the 3060.

Xbox Series X is not "holding next gen back" if anything they'll just give the Xbox Series S the "Nintendo treatment." The issue is the Series S making development a bitch not "holding next gen back."

XsS will hold XsX and ps5 back, just like console are holding back PC gaming since every game needs to run on the weaker hardware. Look at switch Witcher 3 compared to ps4 and Xbox one. Let’s say PS2 is still selling now imagine todays software running on ps2 do you think it would hold developers back or not simple question

Go look at benchmarks between a 2060 Super (PS5) and a 2080 Super (XSX). But that is neither here or there.

Look, the Xbox Series S is perfectly scaleable. Multiple developers have agreed. DF have also confirmed spec wise the Series S is more then capable to handle next generation software at lower resolutions. It isn’t going to hold back next generation. Has the same RAM, CPU and SSD as the XSX. It’s time to take the L and move on.

DF is pretty reputable but they also made a video about how light is the reason Halo Infinite looked meh, did you believe that?

So you know when games are developed for the PC, and it has to run on lots of veriable specs? Yeah... Well did you know that is more work than building for a single spec? Is that news to you? :-S

Also it's a bs complaint too, because Xbox games come out on the PC as well and that's not magic, it's more work that was going to be done anyway. The Series S will actually be A LOT easier than the PC ports, because the only difference is in the RAM and GPU and they know exactly what that is going to be.

It'll take a bit more time, but it won't be more complicated. Just a bit more time consuming.

And it won't impact the Series X version, only the Series S version. MS also said games will be made for the Series X first and downgraded for the Series S after.

They had some good points and they also point out that some of the rendering techniques used were for Xbox One. But they also said the Xbox One X could perform as good as a GTX 1070 based on a Forza demo. They can miss the mark sometimes and that's fine. They're people too.

On PC you have a mid range GPU and you set your parameters for it to work, if you set to high yeah you will get shitty performance on consoles is not like that.

Well... Yeah. Dividing your workforce, or putting most on both tasks will naturally be a detriment to some extent. That being said, if you have a sufficiently sized workforce, the issue would be far less strenuous.
