Last of Us 2 remastered confirmed?

The Last of Us 2: Remastered has been spotted on the LinkedIn profile of a Naughty Dog developer.

The developer in question is lead outsource artist Mark Pajarillo, who has been at the Sony studio since January 2021.

“Responsible for overseeing the production of all outsourced environment art assets, weapons and interactive props for two iconic titles The Last of Us: Part One and The Last of Us 2: Remastered,” reads his LinkedIn profile.

While Sony hasn’t officially announced a Last of Us Part 2 remaster, one is anticipated.

In July, The Last of Us Part 2 composer Gustavo Santaolalla seemingly let slip that an “enhanced version” of the game was in development at Naughty Dog.

Santaolalla, who also composed the original game and the franchise’s TV adaptation for HBO, mentioned that a new version of Part 2 was in the works during an interview with Blender.

Thoughts, SW? Would you be interested in playing TLOU 2 remastered? Not going to lie, I'm interested, but would like to see if they made some improvements. They should bundle 1 and 2 together lol, but they won't, because people will pay for it!

PS5 is fully backwards compatible with PS4 games. WHY?

Say what you will about Nintendo's consistency to re-release, even by prices. At least Wii U games got a second wind and GCN content began re-releasing. And we got a GBA remake of a cult series.

Even though The Last of Us 2 is one of the GOATs we really don't need this remaster lol.

Give us a PC version sure so we can get 4K/120 and added ray tracing, m/kb support etc it'll be like a new game. Not to mention all the PS5less Hermits will get to enjoy what is the greatest game of the previous generation. Lucky bastard who get to experience this masterpiece for the first time.

But there is zero reason to remaster what is already a 1440p/60fps PS5 title (with the best graphics of last gen). I don't think ND will make any practical improvements. Might be able to upscale said 1440p image to 4K but certainly can't handle native 4K.

If this was aiming for a PC version, the remaster for TLOU2 would have made sense but the fact this is a PS5 version, this doesn't make sense to remaster this when you can play it on PS5 and it still looks great, so no need to remaster it. If this was a fully remake, then this would be different.

If they remaster TLOU2 before Factions (which we recently found out has stopped development) or TLOU3, this will confirm Cuckmann is creatively bankrupt and has nothing left to give (not that his personal ideology being ramrodded in the games and TV show was any good to begin with).

The Last of Us part 1 and 2, and Marval Spider-Man were not on the Geforce Now Leak.

I can CLEARLY understand the reactions here because this is just beyond ludicrous at this point with the franchise/series. With that said this would really benefit me because I never got the chance to play TLoU2, so if I have the money, I’ll be buying this. Just a little fyi I didn’t buy TLoU pt1 because I bought the ps3 and ps4 versions. I was really hoping that it would come to ps+ premium, but sadly that’s not the case yet.

This wasn't unexpected, no doubt with Sony porting everything over to PC that practically a half step away from re-releasing it on PS5 so I wouldn't blame them for trying. Perhaps it's about time they simply give those who own it on PS4 the upgraded version gratis if they want to avoid the appearance of being creatively bankrupt and relying on these money grabs because they got nothing. Anyhow, the real victims here are the suckers who will pay $70 to have the PS5 physical copy because they're allergic to paying $10 for a digital upgrade.

It wouldn't look so bad if their first party output wasn't dominated by re-releases. Unfortunately they didn't start planning for releasing on PC until the start of the 9th gen. Perhaps if they spent 8th gen planning for it rather than mocking UWP they'd be in a much stronger position.

Going forward they really need to consider dropping their staggered release plans and release on consoles and PC at same time or more of this delay will persist and upset gamers who expect new timely entries. If they stagger their releases, that will just mean rather than following up with a timely sequel, fans will get blue-balled a year or two later with the PC port announcements, rather than showcasing new entries.

While Nintendo didn’t really do reboots (aside from Mario) a lot of their catalog firs have remasters in which I bought. So truthfully, my feelings wouldn’t change if Nintendo did this.

The engine is still world class and graphically, its more held back by the PS5 than anything else.

its 1440p/60fps on PS5. The only thing they could do with a PS5 remaster is 4K/40 quality mode and maybe 4k (FSR upscaled from 1440p) 60 fps performance mode... SO basically no point.

A PC port is a whole different matter, 4090s could run this native 4K/120 fps and if you add DLSS and frame generation they could add higher res textures or ray tracing.

Package that with Factions 2 and you got an excellent deal... But know Sony...

FYI TLOUP1 is in more need of a remake than TLOU2 lol, TLOU2 is mechanically a perfect game, while TLOU1 lacks the dodge/prone mechanics of TLOU2. plus all the new weapons and stuff.
