Wow. They brought Dead Space back after almost immediately driving it into the ground. And it's a remake that isn't needed.

EA, so fucking based.

If haven't played this game it can be summarized as "basically third person Doom 3, but not as good".

Go to corridor, something jumps out. Repeat for 6 hours.

Something something an ancient evil unleashed.

At first i was like, cool, they might be testing the waters to see if there's demand (probably after seeing how successful RE2R was), and then reboot the series or create DS4. But then i remembered that the OG talent is working on Callisto Protocol, and i stopped giving a shit about DS. Callisto is gonna be poppin

If this does well, i hope they remake DS2. I listened to scrubs saying that its much worse than DS1 and completely skipped the game. What a mistake. DS3 is the one i should have skipped.

Mechanically Dead Space is closer to Doom 3.

System Shock 2, in contrast, far from startling the player, purposefully lets the player hear the enemy audibly in advance to create a never ending sense of dread waiting for the dominos to fall.

It also deprives the player of resources and offence in stark contrast to Dead Space overwhelmingly empowering the player, regardless of difficulty.

One is an action game with horror elements, using trite scripted sequences and ooga-booga, the other is a masterful horror game that sits alongside Silent Hill: Book Of Memories as the best the best, of the best.

Of course Doom 3 itself was inspired by System Shock, and very obviously Halflife, where Valve completely superseded them with skillz (x).

If you can’t create anything new, just rehash your old stuff and charge gamers full price.

I played it a bunch in coop, but it was simply not balanced for it. On max difficulty, as soon as you're able to create a good weapon, the game becomes trivial, and when its this easy, the tension is gone. No tension=Not Dead Space to me. It did not feel like a Dead Space game, but a coop experience a la CoD zombies. I just can't wait for Callisto, its guaranteed to be so damn good.

They learned from Nintendo. NVM, Nintendo hasn't even learned how to remake games, all they do is hd ports and emulators.

Dead Space was originally suppose to be System shock 3 but then become its own IP in third person because of RE4 success. it maybe good thing because System shock 3 under EA would ruined.

Now System shock is in good hand and Remake/Reboot is coming and not AAA mainstream title and thus it will be good.

Very true my friend, very true.

The thing about Resident Evil 4 though, much like- but to not the extent of Halflife 2, it has diverse gameplay section to section.

Doom 3 and Dead Space have 1 singular idea.

Boo! Outside a few interesting gravity/atmosphere sections... Zzz

Even at that, Doom 3 does a better job through actual challenge and enemy variation with a final section (hell) that is genuinely excellent barring a mediocre end-boss.

The original game is kinda old right now, but it ain't the old to make an impact like RE2 Remake nor the series have the same relevance than Resident Evil; As much as i like Dead Space I'm gonna try to not hype this one.

I love Dead Space. I played it so many times. I believe that a remake is unnecessary though. A new, good, game is more desirable for me. That said, I’d buy it. I already helped Bezos fly into space and the frat community at Blizzard so might as well keep it up.

Dead Space holds up visually and mechanically for what it's trying to be, which isn't much.

Sure, the models and textures are somewhat muddy by today's standards, but that's more suitable for as remaster. Otherwise, aesthetically would argue it holds up.

The leap here isn't the same leap as say, Resident Evil 2 to Resident Evil 2 remake nor the dated nature of Resident Evil to Resident Evil Remake.

Never had an inkling of interest in the series. All I know is that it was a proto System Shock game, but then it became "Resident Evil in space", or something? Sounds like one of those insecure mishmash game that have no idea what they want to be. Maybe a remake isn't a bad idea if it had more clear direction.

As someone who likes Dead Space, would I want a remake of the first one? Not really. Original still looks and plays great.

Correct. Resident Evil but moribund. System Shock with too much shock. Doom 3 without the doomed. A cacophony of ideas with nary an original one in sight.

Excellent sound design and immersive UI.

Otherwise, a OK franchise elevated by console game journos who've never played System Shock 2, as Ghost astutely points out.

Damn, that's a shame. I really wanted Dead Space 3 to flop.

Looks great... cant wait... not pointless.

Glad this series is not dead. Next we need a Dead Space Trilogy port to Switch.

Best 3rd person shooter in gaming... that doesnt rhyme with Dax Kain.

Honestly I would rather replay these than Mass Effect just because they are less of a commitment.

But am concerned of it being a remake rather than a remaster. Just do it exactly like we got them originally, overhauled to support RT and shit, make most out of modern gaming systems. They knew what they were doing when they made this the first time. Stick to it.

But, part of me is curious so I will try anyways. Games are great to play via Xbox BC so I still got those. I even like the third one. And it is all on Game Pass via EA Access/Play or whatever they call it, in the Vault.

All the IP's in their stable, all the games they own the rights to, and all the various talented developers they have, and they decide to remake Dead Space?

Meh.

I mean it was a neat game at the time and the whole dismemberment mechanic was great and it was pretty scary and I love me some sci-fi horror but of all the games to spend time and resources on, why this?

@uninspiredcup: i beat the whole series and enjoyed it too. Im also not sure about remake, i mean the games came out in the HD 1080p era with reasonably good textures and other stuff. Is a remake necessary? Im not sure...you can easily just play the OG, its available on gamepass.

This is the real Dead space game warmy, no AAA mainstream, no publish by EA, no cinematic but Deep and complex.
