Nintendo is technically under last gen. They don't have a current gen system. So whatever metric you're using, sales, games, game scores, whatever, you need to compare that against PS4/Xbox One.

As for the Switch, it kinda won last-gen with PS4/Xbox One as its not really competing with PS5/XSX, the Switch is a generation of its own. Just be glad Nintendo is doing their own thing and not following Sony/MS path.

Jeez, make up your minds people, Switch is an 8th gen device, no wait it's a 9th gen. I always put it in the latter myself.

Anyhow, yeah they gained an early lead might even sustain it but their personal growth moment as a company ended a few years back, right around the time they decided to put brakes ons VC for Switch and push the shit subscription drip. But the move to consolidate the console and handheld under one unit was a great idea. Now people want a beefier mid-gen refresh, and Nintendo won't. Honestly though I think this is less Nintendo's call, more that Nvidia won't let them. I know people expected a Switch-lite too in tradition of DS and 3DS but I think again this was out of need because Nvidia wasn't providing much wiggle room. And knowing never to make a deal with the devil will be the lesson they'll have to finish in silence.

Now that I see this $500 AMD powered Valve Switch I have no doubt it's Nvidia controlling Switch prices and to that extent dictating the limits of the mid-gen refresh.
