PlayStation continues its run; European sales +143% YOY in October

• In total, 481,000 consoles were sold across the tracked markets in October.

• Compared with September, overall market sales are up nearly 16%, PS5 sales are up 11%, Switch sales are up 10% and Xbox sales are down just under 20%.

• Onto Spider-Man 2, and the PS5 game's launch was strong, with the first two weeks up nearly 30% compared with 2018's Spider-Man, and almost three times higher than 2020's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

• If we focus on just PS5 sales, Spider-Man 2 outsold Ragnarok by 8% after two weeks.

• Also new in the charts for October are Lords of the Fallen (No.5), Metal Gear Sold: Master Collection Volume 1 (No.16), EA Sports UFC 5 (No.17), Detective Pikachu Returns (No.32), Sonic Superstars (No.33) and Forza Motorsport (No.42).

Yet Sony saw the need to raise prices on consoles and PS+ this year. They are making a profit on consoles sold now, so their price increases are just corporate greed at this point.

What we're seeing is how they hit their end of year goals on revenue, profit, PS5 sales etc. taking into account the price increases etc.

It actually would be better if they were relevant in the industry. If going forward Sony and PC are the only 2 consoles to make games on and pushing video games to another level each gen, it could change the landscape. I think Nintendo will stay the route they are on now and charge extra for outdated hardware and continue to make similar video games they've made this gen.

I just realized no CoD in Euro chart. Its kind of a regional and culture specific genre mostly American likes, in Japan Social party games, Musou and train operator games sells well there. In Europe I guess Simulator like transport trucks and farm life?

Xbox systems are not selling. Games have never sold poorer. Gamepass is losing millions a year, competing with epic game store as the bigger money sink ever seen in gaming. MS exiting gaming in 2027 makes perfect sense if you ask me.

Xbox console sales continue to dip further behind Xbox One launch aligned. Starfield fell off a cliff on the charts and Forza got outsold by 7 week old The Crew Motorfest. All while Game Pass subs are stagnant. That's a quadruple negative!

Europeans have been buying playstation for 20+years to play fifa/pes, only way for Microsoft to gain ground is to have an exclusive footie game that's better than EA's and not available on PS.

Was going to say the same. Yes, Sony is selling very well and is all around healthy-ish -- but their margins are much slimmer than their competitors. Something like ~5% I think. Which is similar to Grocery stores in the US.
