Revenue is way up but the margins aren't great. And it looks like Cows stopped buying exclusives? I guess it didn't really matter. And holy cow (😉) look at that add-on content revenue. Almost more than physical/digital games combined. How are y’all spending nearly as much on micro transactions compared to actual games?

Last time I checked, PS5 exclusive Spider-Man 2 is the fastest selling Sony first party game, amassing 5 million copies in 10 days 😎

To enhance the concern factor, 6 live service games by Sony are being delayed and hopefully canceled due to quality concern

I am honestly surprised how Sony could sell this many consoles. Their software performance has been way below their usual standards for quite some time now. And the console is still as big'n'ugly as ever.

@pmanden: Look at their third party and micro transactions which are at an all time high. Red dead Online, GTA Online, CoD, Fortnite, etc. live service is the future of Sony.

But, more importantly, people really just want to jump into the current generation and, the PS5 is the go-to console.

@ghostofgolden: Cows can't buy exclusives if there were barely any to begin with. I think Spiderman and some DLC and VR content were the only things released by first party devs this year.

I'd love to know what they spend all of that money on. I'm hoping it's investing in games and not just making sure the lights stay on.

Why did Sony raise the price of the PS5 in select markets?

Why did Sony raise the price of the PS5 Slim digital?

Why is Sony charging $30 for a Slim vertical stand?

Why is Sony going through a round of layoffs with multiple studios?

Why did Sony raise the price of PS+?

It’s because Sony is having financial problems. They can sell as many PS5’s as they want, sell as many copies of Spiderman 2 as they want, it’s not going to fix these issues. They’re starting to adjust their business practices which means delays, more expensive hardware, software, services. This was a bad year for Sony financially.

Which is why I have a problem with them raising the prices on games, hardware, and services. All Sony fans should have an issue with this. They are very profitable but still raising prices.

Console sales all they got when 12 of their internal studios are in Development Hell designing GaaS titles (12!!!), their 2024 internal release schedule is barren wasteland.

Silent Hill 2 is already written off because apparently every Sony fan remembers the day they ran into Pyramid Head playing SH2 on PS2 and there's no way Bloober can ever recreate that magic. Pfft, posers.

Physical games sales only make up 8% of game sale related revenue vs digital game + add-on content making up 92% of game related revenue. A new major milestone indicator of how obsolete physical is becoming.

My gosh though, their operating margin is so low, what's the dillio? No wonder they got to eject all that dead weight out the airlock.

Why do we believe these sales number for the games is for exclusives? Sony gets a cut of every game sold on their platform. So revenue comes from third parties, too.

Regardless, nice to see some transparency from an industry leader. They need to be more transparent on the games coming up from other studios they house.

The chart breaks down 1st party and 3rd party units. 4.7 vs 62.9 million. Spider-Man 2 sold more in 10 days than PS 1st party sold in 3 months. Pretty wild

If we're being honest, the PS5 is selling on brand name alone.

Sony hasn't released anything other than a Baseball game and still broke records is undeniable proof of that its brand name.
