pretty much since the XSX is in such a high demand. Didn't take longer than a week to get my PS5 though.

It's a system they can't sell games for (no disc drive), it's all digital. The PSP Go had this backlash with many retailers when it launched. It was in news months back (maybe last year) Microsoft made a deal with Game Stop regarding Series S sales saying they'd get a cut of the digital sales made on through the consoles Game Stop sold to circumvent a similar reaction. That's a generous arrangement considering the retailer can make money through the life of the console without a user setting foot in the store. At the time I thought if one retailer got such an arrangement then certainly the others would demand a similar deal, but I am surprised we never saw that happen. I guess maybe Microsoft might want to extend a similar offer if they care to keep this retailer chain happy.

It's never mattered for the Xbox. It sold less than 500K OG Xbox's, 1.6M 360s and the X1 sold 140K over the life of the products. Care to point where Japan would matter all of a sudden when it hasn't in the past?

Japan?? 70% of their gamers are mobile, 20% play Nintendo, 5% playstation and maybe 5% pc

@mowgly1: Japan and XBOX don't go well. The same as Nintendo and the UK and Ireland (mostly anyway) as the latter had ASDA (British Walmart branch) drop the Wii U in a similar way.

Shocking. Retailers make shag-all on hardware, and the Xbox hardware is a hard sell in Japan.

Yeah I can see why. Xbox is already a very niche product, combined with Gamepass its hard for retailers to stock games when the users less likely to buy. Xbox has no real strong market beyond North America and UK so I dont think they bother.

It depends on “how it mattered“. If you’re talking overall success, then you may be right due to the information you provided. However if you’re talking vs the ps5 or the switch, then yes, Japan does matters.

I think below also a very good situation for why retailer pulling out. I understand PS5 physical only sold 0.5m units as users most likely buy PS4 edition of games and get free/paid upgrades or PS5 version just dont exist. But for Xbox selling only 1700 games is not good for retailers as Xbox One bombed and Xbox Series Gamepass eating sales. No xbox series games ever appeared on Famitsu weekly top 30 sales chart.
