That would be something. Hopefully if true, they use their full catalog of Take-Two and not just GTA series. Maybe Microsoft would get into a bidding war at this point because that is one developer I wouldn't want to get way from me.

GTA6 has sold close to a 100mill copies because they are a multi-plat title and they wouldn´t even ding half that if it was exclusive to Sony.

@Jacanuk: If Sony is paying Rockstar $$ they will do whatever they want it will be Sonys decision not Rockstar. They will gladly sell less copies of GTA and RDR if this means the PS brand will stay relevant. The funny thing is I predicted this. With MS focusing on streaming services and Google getting seriously involved in gaming you can expect these mega corporations to buy up almost every major studio. They have to do something to differentiate themselves and how you do that is exclusives.

That's what I thought. Take2's worth around 12B and Sony's around 60B. So what the OP is implying that Sony will buy a company largely 'in cash' that's 20% of their entire worth. This is just for what T2' current market cap is and for any company to acquire they have to usually pay a much higher price compared to their market value. How would Sony run their operations after they have spent all their cash?

RDR2 is coming to PC anyways. take two other company 2k has not made a good game in nearly decade with bioshock series (if they own the ip) is among the most overrated and worst FPS games ever made.

Again even if Sony could somehow persuade Rockstar to make an "exclusive GTA" it would be such a major unwise business decision that somewhere the Sony board and CEO´s would have to be incapacitated by sake and naked anime girls to not be aware of the monumental disaster it would be.

Even with a 100mill PS4´s sold it would never sell close to what it did as a multi-plat and it would never bring in close to 1/10th of the cash it did on the online part. Especially considering that the highest grossing PS4 exclusive is Zero Dawn with 10mill copies sold, so consider that amount up against around 80 mill sold at the time of Zero´s release.

@Jacanuk: Except who says Sony would lose Money on it? Especially if it keeps your brand relevant. If MS and Google take over gaming with streaming sevices( the same way Netflix did with movies) Sony is going to spend billions to keep the PS brand relevant. They don't have the servers to beat MS and it would require well over 10 billion( the cost of TT) to compete with that. So they need the console to stay relevant.

Also why do you keep saying "IF" Sony can persuade Rockstar. If they buy Take Two then they own Rockstar. They don't have to persuade them to do anything. Also Horizon is not the best selling PS exclusive. Uncharted 4, God of War and Spiderman have all outsold it.

Doubtful. I don’t think sony has the cash for something this big. And exclusive to ps would be a bad move in terms of sales. GTA costs hundreds of millions to devdlop so you’d have to go multiplat.

This is too aggressive and sony doesn’t need it going into next gen.

Sony buying Take Two at such premium cost doesn't make any sense. Their gaming division can do a much better job with the same funds in many other ways than to sink it into one purchase.

@Pedro: I'm not saying I disagree. I'd rather them buy someone like Capcom for about 2 billion and get way more quality IP's vs a company that only has 3 I give a shit about. But from a business standpoint they would get GTA, RDR and NBA2k which are $$ makers. GTA, RDR and Bioshock are the only ones I care about and maybe borderlands.

Have to disagree there, you need to remember Take-Two is only interesting because they happen to sit on Rockstar Games, So consider the mediocre game GTA V was and yet they have sold more copies than even Wii Sports who came with the console.

Sony will be like Blizzard back when WoW was at the max popularity in terms of cash milking machine if they manage to secure Take-Two, not to mention they can buy take-two, secure Rockstar Games and then dump the rest of Take-Two to MS.

You need to look at this as a negative profit margin compared to what they could get.

Horizon Zero Dawn made a healthy profit with only 10mill copies sold, Spiderman made a nice profit with only 9 million sold and same did Last of Us and Uncharted.

But look at the amount of copies sold, GTA V sold 11.21 million copies evenly spread over the 2 consoles at release and 6 weeks later it had sold 29million, making Take-Two far above a billion in sales alone, not including the ½ billion they made on shark cards. You think Sony would ever get close to those numbers solely on the Ps4? of course not.

And I say "IF" because no one knows what kind of contract Dan Houser made with Take-Two and what kind of ownership he has over the IP. Considering that the talent behind Rockstar is the Houser guys and their team and they could go anywhere and get thrown a fortune at them. But it´s interesting the amount of independence Rockstar has, because what publisher in the world would allow a developer to take the time Rockstar do on each game if their hands weren´t tied.
