Pretty amazing.

Valve hardware is generally rock-solid in quality and execution. Steam Controller, Steam Link, Valve Index, etc....and now this.

I kind of want one if just to play some of the sidescrollers and platformers and such I've been neglecting on my desktop.

I'm super excited for mine and don't get those rooting against other gamers enjoying their purchases, but I guess that's SW and that's just why I don't really belong here. I'll post impressions of it when I get it, but sadly I'm Q2 so it'll be old news by then and nobody will care to hear a new one

As for the switch, I maintain this isn't a problem for Nintendo. That's the best console purchase I've made in a long time, and it's the only reason I'm interested in this in the first place

@xantufrog: I'm not rooting against the switch though. I very much like my switch. But it's obvious nintendo is milking the shit out of it and they could use a good kick in the sack to get their juices going. They aren't competitive and just rely on a monopoly to do whatever they please. Don't get me wrong, the oled screen on the switch is beautiful, but its almost a half ass effort by them. The steam deck came out of nowhere and it brought more to handheld gaming than Nintendo did in their very first try and for only $50 more. What's even more pathetic is that a current gen console being so weak that its being emulated while still in production. Sad, and pathetic. Nintendo sure has balls to do such a stupid thing using such weak as balls hardware.

The deck feels like the spiritual successor to the original psp, even more than the vita did. Theres obviously drawbacks like the large size and the poor battery, but the psp og wasn't perfect either.

Nintendo is officially on notice.

Its about what i expected: a bit better in some ways.

Great hardware overall. Software needs work (though it looks nicer than i thought it would and is a big improvement over Big picture mode).

I mean there was 0 chance Valve were ever going to get every game on Steam up and running through proton by launch. Hell there is a good chance it's just never going to happen. But Looking at the list of verified titles though: i would have no shortage of games to play on my deck if i was getting one Day 1. I have also played games on Linux all the way through that are not on that list too (a few Ys games for example).

Anyone expecting a curated, walled garden, vertically integrated console like experience were going to be disappointed. thats just not possible for this kind of device. The message still doesn't seem to be sinking in for some people: It's a PC. It plays PC games. it's just packaged in a different form factor.

Such weak sauce, nothing burger complaints. 😂🤣 Viva LA STEAM DECK!

Good luck finding a plug? Lol... OK. They're literally everywhere, but if I'm going on my 3rd consecutive hour of gaming without a plug nearby anywhere then maybe I should focus on being rescued? 😂🔌

Crap storage 😱 oh no! If only the memory could somehow be expanded!? And if only there were tests showing how the storage options work nearly as quick as the internal storage! 🤣

Such bad takes guys. You should try enjoying the hobby every once in a while. Especially when new, game changing, dynamic hardware like steam deck releases.

Were these the same reviewers who said positive things about the PlayStation Vita was it released several years back? Glowing reviews mean little if most gamers care little about the Steam Deck.

Does the Steam Deck has the appeal beyond Valve fans and PC gamers?

If you played an older game or a game with the same level of graphics as a switch you can actually get more hours out of it.

If you played your favourite emulators on it you get more than 7hrs out of it. Two hours is for the latest games. DF say Cuphead can run on the deck for 6 hours. Since when did the Switch have great storage?

@mesome713:

2 hour or so battery life is basically the Switch. lol It's actually pretty decent considering. I think I'm definitely going to get a Steamdeck somewhere down the line mostly because of Halo and whatever 3rd party game Switch hasn't gotten.

Final Fantasy VII Remake, the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, GTA V, Cyberpunk, Red Dead Redemption 2, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and even the Uncharted collection...aren't those on Steam yet? If so then there is A LOT to enjoy out of this Steamdeck! I'm practically drooling just thinking about it!! It's gaming on the go, what's not to like?

What I loooove about the Switch is how convenient it is to set up and put away. Being able to move from portable to the tv in seconds makes it feel like an actual step forward for the evolution of gaming. It's incredibly easy to pick up and play compared to the PS and Xbox. If the Steamdeck has all these games that I mentioned then yeah....Nintendo should be VERY afraid. Because it just might end up being my new favorite console too.

@vfighter: people are getting more than 3 hours even in big games by tweaking resolution and other settings. Let's face it, you don't need 720p or 800p on such a small screen. You can make do with 480p, uglier textures and so on. This is a 7 inch screen. The pixel density on a 7 inch screen at 480p is 2x the pixel density of 4k resolution on a 65 inch TV.

@vfighter: I have first hand experience with the switch oled. I bought dark souls remastered for the switch and for my series X. The game looks beautiful on my switch in handheld. Not going to say better than xbox, but it would be on par. The pixels are sharper and textures appear sharper on the switch in handheld mode than it does on my Xbox on my 55inch TV, but the xbox version has more polish and the environment looks nicer. When you dock the switch, things turn for the worst. It's one of the ugliest games I've seen in docked mode. Still bearable but geeze, far behind the xbox version.

@hardwenzen isn't wrong. On the portable, switch games look decent. It only turns into ass once you blow it up on the big screen.

Yep, this would be the first time a Nintendo system sold well when up against superior hardware. NINTENDOOMED!

Seriously though, Steam Deck looks cool. I hope it finds a market.

Imagine shitting on Steam Deck because it only gets 2h battery life while playing high end games. How about comparing the battery life to Switch when you are playing Nintendo style games on SD instead?

Actually 2009/2010ish hardware in 2022. ROFLMAO! News at 11, all the while hyping and defending titles you don't have access to and downplaying better systems. How's KZ: SF, by the way? I heard you just got it used along with the PS4.

Do you also go around bragging that your Chromebook is slightly more powerful then an OG Gameboy? 🤔🤭

Oh for sure. Why wouldn't I? It's definitely more powerful than your 720p/sub30FPS toy and the toy you're going to get 5-8 years from now. Hence the reason you can't stop talking about it.

I hope they release a smaller model in a couple years.

I don't see myself trying to play current releases so I don't expect to run into issues with the battery.

Pretty sure we had a thread a couple months ago about the battery life being 2-5 hours on average, which is pretty much the same as the Switch. Not sure why we're outraging.

Considering it's a PC playing PC games, I'd call the battery life of the Deck impressive, if I hadn't considered the battery life of the Switch crap.

Personally, I think a battery depleting after two hours indeed sucks for a handheld gaming device. Thought it sucked for Switch too. It's not going to be such a big problem for the Deck though, since you have more options to make it last longer, like lowering the graphics.

The Deck is awesome, dudes. I'd get one if I had any real use for it.

Correction. It's aimed at a niche audience within the hardcore demographic.

It looks like a quality build with some nice power. I just don't see it competing with the Switch.

What I do like is that maybe it'll force Nintendo to up the horsepower on the next-gen console.

What's annoying on these forums as this 2hr battery is taken as a given as in it's 2 hours and that's it. It isn't. If you play less demanding games the battery lasts longer.

If you play an AAA graphically intensive 2021/22 game on the deck it will be about 2hrs. If you play something a lot less demanding it will be 4hrs. If you run an emulator or a 2d game it will probably last over 5 hours. DF's test of Cuphead lasted around 6 hours.

My body is ready, just wish mine would ship already. Reselling is unavoidable, but I really wish the pre-order price was a bigger chunk or even full, that would have stopped a lot of them last Summer. At $5 every reseller took a gamble and clogged the queue for those that actually want the product.

Who is this even for? People that want to game on the go, and don't already own a laptop that can already play steam games? (it is too big to fit in anyone's pockets....)

This just seems like a redundant device that does not even have one exclusive. A nice to have (I guess?) at best......a complete waste of money at worst.
