Poll The Performance Gap Between PC and Consoles (67 votes)
I really hate this gap , it's one of the main reasons that we don't see games like Crysis anymore and probably the root cause of the delays we got lately

Bank for the buck, it's over. SuperMighty SeX king's the hill but eh, Pee Salty Seas had a good run whilst it lasted. lol :P
The days of huge power advantage or differences are over and has been over for sometime.
Right because 30FPS on medium to low settings at 900p on a X1S and 120FPS at 1440p is small difference.
GTFO.
The gap between the base consoles and High end PC is huge... The gap between the X1X and a 2080 Ti is the difference between playing Forza Horizon 4 at 4K/30FPS and 4K/60FPS... Double the framerate in a racing game!
Next generation consoles aren't even out and are slower than a 2080 Ti by 10-20%.
The gap will only widen over the next 1-2 years and by the 3rd year consoles gamers will be begging for more power because Ray Tracing will bring them to their knees when its properly used.

In your attempt to counter my point you proved it. Next time be wiser. :)
Consoles have been progressively encroaching on PC since the release of the original Xbox in 2001, the Series X has nearly bridged that gap in its entirety. If it released today that gap would be non-existent, with it releasing 6-7 months from now though the PC will leapfrog it again with new GPU offerings from Nvidia and AMD, plus the 4000 line of Ryzen CPU's.
Even with that said though at the end of 2020 the Series X will still fall into the high end PC classification in terms of its computational throughput.

Ugh... Sure.
In your attempt... Bla bla bla.
STFU.
If the difference has been over for some time then why the F*** are consoles gamer's lifting desks with their hard on's over 4K/120 with Ray Tracing and 12TFLOPS?!
Its so tiring to put up with f**king liars and bullsh** artists during this corona virus isolation period. I don't have time for you.
If 30FPS vs 120FPS doesn't represent a huge power advantage then please go outside and lick the door handle of the nearest hospital to you.

Let me see a 2080ti is 10 to 20% faster than the Series X while costing just the GPU more than 100% more and you think that is some how an achievement for PC?
Dude you can have a PC already built and adding a 2080ti to your PC will cost you way more than the xbox which is a complete machine.
The amount of power you will get this gen from console is out of this world for the price, even with a lower clocked ryzen.
If there is a generation were graphics will have less impact is this one,and is because graphics are on a point that even shitty games look good enough and best looking games look mind blowing.
A 2080ti still goes for $1,100+ in most cases, hell you can have it have your 20% hell have 100% for the price you will pay on PC it simply not worth it.
Buying a Zen 2 PC with a 1TB ssd and 10GB of fast memory and 6GB of still faster than DDR4 memory with a 12TF navi2 equivalent GPU will cost you probably double or more of what you pay for an xbox, and beating it by 20% oh yeah that will probably cost you more than 3 times what a series X cost just to get 20%.
The game is and will continue to be wide. Does it really matter all that much? Not really. PC does not get that many exclusives that even need the power.

No just that, and don't get me wrong that the CPU improvement is welcome here on the Series X, but the thing is it really just has to meet a certain threshold and then it's fine. We're pushing up into native 4K resolutions at 60 FPS and the reality is at that resolution a much better CPU isn't really doing anything for you.
The bottleneck becomes the GPU, and this thing is going to be pushing 2080 Super level performance so the whole concept of a PC better than that right now is just laughable because you're talking $2,000 or more.

Oh see why you are so angry now,no longer you will be able to claim that gap without heavilly investing way more on your PC and having to wait for something considerably stronger that will cost you much much more than we will pay for those consoles.
Consoles and PC will be much closer when the new consoles launch than they were when the PS4 and Xbox One launched. So I'm grateful for that. But as soon as Nvidia launches their next GPU line, the gap will be blown open again. That's just how this works.

They need 20TF to play Dota 2 and counter strike at 1550FPS and claim superiority.

I am betting that the larger performance improvements are mainly going to be in raytracing with marginal improvements in everything else. Coupled with DLSS improvements and use of machine learning to render higher rez with lower native, performance variance is going to be less of a problem.

Yeah I know right? I honestly never really understood power wars. I just want to play fun games.

You just compared Xbox one X to a 2080 ti lol. You could buy 4 Xbox one X's for the price of a 2080ti.
@Pedro: Probably will get a 40% improvement in everything and a lot more in RT. Not sure what if you define 40% as marginal.
DLSS also probably won’t be coming to console so if anything it should make the advantage on the PC side bigger, not smaller.
VRS would make things easier on everyone though.

I don't think Nvidia next GPU will be 100% faster than the 2080TI.
But even if it was paying $1300 dollars for something like that is totally out of the question for the kind of performance you get.
Is simply not worth it,if this gen consoles and the 360 and PS3 showed me something is that PC GPU are greatly over priced by what you get, specially on Nvidias camp because they have the strongest GPU so they charge even more for equal performance with something on AMD side.
@tormentos: You didn’t need anything to know NVIDIA GPU’s have been overpriced for a while.
Also no, the 360 and PS3 didn’t show GPU’s were overpriced. Microsoft and Sony took huge losses at the time and when the PS3 was out, a GPU twice its performance was around.

Well we don't know if something similar to DLSS will.
40% for more than 100% price gap in just GPU is not worth it.
Even if the 2080ti was 40% gap in power it cost $1,100 on the lower end and up to $1,400 man that is almost 3 series X if the price is $500 just for a GPU,forget about SSD,Xen 2 CPU,ram, motherboard, powersupply and the rest the gap in price is to big hell even if you already own a complete PC which doesn't negate the fact that you payed for it,just adding a 2080TI is prohibitly costly.

NVIDIA are the ones who lost their minds with their prices. The 2080 Ti should have been $799, nowhere near $999 which was the price of the OG titan in 2013. Not sure what's gonna happen next. The 2080 Ti is by far the most expensive enthusiast-level single GPU they ever released. Will they come back to $699-$799 next with AMD breathing down their necks? Or will AMD launch theirs at $899?
Consoles are ahead
PC has nothing but shoddy console ports and crappy broken indie demos. Imagine paying $1000 on just the graphics card and getting boned by the $350 BONEX THHBO
I expect that guy with all the tables and graphs to come in here and explain it shortly.
I don’t know the numbers, but my sense is that progress in graphics has slowed down. There is much less of a difference in general. I think this benefits consoles in terms of keeping up.
obviously in raw numbers PC crushes, but in actual output I think the gap is closing, just as it is if you compare a console generation to the previous one.
@the_master_race: Yeah sure, keep telling yourself that. I guess they didnt have consoles back when Crysis was released...
@dxmcat:
Tell the youtubers making a fortune streaming walkthroughs of games, some not available on pc
I'm gonna need to know which games and what streamers you're talking about. and then define, "a fortune."
