Sacrebleu.

Top 10 UK Sales Chart: Watch Dogs 2 Sales Down 80%, Fails to Knock Infinite Warfare Off No.1

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare finished top of the UK all-formats sales charts for the third week in a row, fending off competition from the newly-released Watch Dogs 2, which finished in second place. According to MCV, the sequel's sales were down 80 percent on the original Watch Dogs.

Like Titanfall 2, it's too little too late. A real shame since both improved on the originals.

This gen is just flop after flop for AAA gaming. O well, drop the price to $39.99 and pray for a miracle. AAA gaming done got gamers use to cheap games now, so might even have to make it $29.99 to get them to jump.

Ubisoft didn't advertise it nearly as much as the first Watch_Dogs, hell Watch_Dogs 2 wasn't even hype for that matter. The first game also didn't get the greatest reception and releasing the game with broken multiplayer certainly didn't help things. It's a shame since this new Watch Dogs 2 is far and away better game than Watch_Dogs and the main character is really interesting than Aiden.

Xbox 360/PS3/Wii was so much better than this generation and that's a fact! Hopefully Nintendo Switch will be a fresh of breath air.

@davillain-: I think itll allow people to make better budget games. The most expensive game ever for Nintendo that maxes Wii U out only needs to sell 2 million.

Too many yearly releases and games following the same lazy formula. Same for Activision. Good to see people not taking some devs seriously anymore.

The first one was a bore, only a few seemed to enjoy it. There was no real demand for this game, but I'll gladly add it to my collection once it hits 15 euros or something like that.

Thats a shame. From what I hear its a way better game than the first. I'm sure the protagonist pushed many people away. Its nothing to do with race, its just that the hipster wanna be type is... bleh. Aiden Pierce may have been generic as fvck but at least it didnt try way too hard to look and sound "hip"

Saying this, I think this serves the publishers right for the simple fact they insist on releasing their high profile games all at this time of the year where competition is a lot higher. Its like the rest of the year barely exists. The summer is usually a drag for game releases, a time when many people are at home doing nothing. Three flops by now: Dishonored 2, Titanfall 2 and now WD2 (the 2 curse? lol)

Too bad its great and none of the haters will actually give it a chance to enjoy it. It's an 83 average on Opencritic, they've fixed nearly every issue and concern I had with the first game. It's fun and offers a unique stealth/hacking twist on open worlds. Not only that but it's the first open world/sandbox game to come anywhere close to GTA in terms of feeling alive and detailed as a real world. Its really a well made game with lots of great ideas.

I really enjoy most Ubi games personally, still waiting on Splinter Cell....

It's the sequel nobody asked for or cared about. You can't just follow up a medicore game with a sequel and expect it to sell well.

Yup. Its ridiculous how many games get released at full price in a small amount of time. Pubs must think people have money to burn or somethin. Then they come with the excuse of "different targets" completely oblivious of the fact an FPS player can be an RPG player at the same time and be interested in two different games but only have the money for one...

I was interested in Titanfall 2 but forkin 70 euros for a 5h SP campaign? hell no. Thankfully the game floped and I just grabed it for 39.99 new... so I win. On the bad side... we probably wont get a sequel

I agree. I don't have money for all these damn 60 dollar games, and Titanfall 2 definitely was not worth 60 bucks. It should have released at 40.

Ubisoft has a lot of paid actors hyping their games online, cause when they finally drop theyre always underwhelming

the last 2 FARCRY games were meh imo...I wont even speak on AC.

Does this track digital or just physical? I'm not surprised that Watchdogs 2 didn't open as strong as the first. The original game had a disturbing amount of hype and was a bit disappointing. Marketing was strong during the Summer but it felt like the interest kind of fell off once we got into October. Overall, Ubisoft has a rough portfolio this Fall. They are looking at:

Watchdogs 2
Assassins Creed Collection
Steep

No new Assassins Creed and South Park got pushed outside 2016. They probably have a new Just Dance I guess. 80% does seem a bit steep though.

I'd agree. New IP's during the first two years of a generation usually do well. The combination of less options and general interest in new games helps. The Division had a similar result (also a disappointing game). As much as people rip on Ubisoft, its nice to see that they keep trying new things. Watchdogs, The Division, The Crew, For Honor, and Steep are all new IP's this gen. They all seem like legit efforts and hopefully they keep getting some new IP's going.

I found WD1 somewhat okay. It came free with my video card. I might buy WD2 later on.

I just finished Metro 2033 Redux. Next on the backlog is WD1.

Unfortunate, but I'm somewhat buying into Ubisoft's belief that the game may have legs in spite of my natural inclination. R6 Siege found success in what seemed a dry well to me, so I'll defer to the professionals on this one.

ubisoft became popular with prince of persia series and far cry, the first was done by them the latter was developped by crytek (you know who made crysis).

prince of persia spawned the assassins creed series but apart from that I don't think ubisoft made any good games.

It's about culture actually, everytime they create a Black protoganist, his characteristic is expected to be bulletInTheHead funny/hip like chris rock or will smith or terry cruise ........ but rarely black european like Idris Elba or Morgan from walking dead kind of guy.

I want to get it eventually, lower priority than Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1, or Gears of War 4 at the moment, which I'm picking up during the current digital Black Friday sale, but that's all the money I can spend this month. If I do get it then it'll be next month during the string of pre-Christmas digital sales. Though, we'll see if I'm still interested as then too I'm more looking forward to Dead Rising 4.

I think the hype of the first one boosted initial sales and it's disappointment led to the lack of interest in it's sequel. Just about any GTA'ish type game usually gets a lot of hype just on the art direction and graphics of a modern day urban environment.

Well the IP's are new. Whether the style of game (open world) is crappy or not doesn't change that.

  • Exploration style snowboarding/skiing/wing-suit game with first person view is neat
  • The Crew is probably the largest driving game this gen
  • Watchdogs was definitely a heavily Ubisoft style open world inspired game. It did try new things though :)
  • The Division attempted an MMO environment with an interesting PVP system
  • Not really sure whats going on with For Honor or if its open world

It's pretty obvious that Ubisoft has a safe zone with their open world style games (Far Cry, Assassins, Watchdogs), but they are trying new things here and there.
