Hello friends,

So in this thread, instead of bashing movie games, we pick what is the best movie game we played. the movie games are those which have less gameplay and more walking segments, QTE, cutscenes etc as most of sony first party games fall under that. theres a difference between cinematic and movie games as such original Max payne and MGS were cinematic games but not movie games since they had proper and challenging gameplay. also deep gameplay mechanics.

anyways, and for me the best movie game i played is..

Red dead Redemption 2. On its core, its a movie game. barely anything to do or play apart from cover shooting and horse riding. you are engaged in forced walking, following most of time but other than that it did everything great from story, characters to living breathing world and define wild west. Its only game came to my mind that actually failed as video game yet nailed as cinematic story driven experience. and this is why I think its best movie game compare to other awful movie games we have seen in past.

so friends, what is the best movie game you have played? lets discuss

Yea you kept talking about how great it was, so I bought a copy on sale. Haven't played it yet. But if it sucks, your credibility will have gone further down the tubes 😄

Yeah that part sucked, that part was like ... 5 seconds of a 20 hour game though.

Hardly worth getting fuzzed about.

Entire game can be watch on youtube as theres little to no gameplay, only reason to "play" it for choices. story is really badly done and then theres twist near end also ruined it.

In terms of game-time at the expensive of emulating a movie, Metal Gear Solid 3.

Now, you do have the option to skip all this shit and the gameplay itself compared to many "movie games" is great. But it is absolutely emulating movies. The opening is literally a Bond credit sequence and that influence, probably more so than anything else, permeates it.

And just happen to enjoy the shit out of James Bond, so...

I enjoy quite a few “movie games” myself but I would say that my favourite is probably Metal Gear Solid 4. Love the MGS games.

Probably something from the Metal Gear Solid series, depends on my mood. Not 4 (once was enough) or 5 (haven't played) though. At least you can skip everything if you want to. I replayed Miles Morales on ultimate difficulty and I could skip around 40% of the cut-scenes. Selfish movie game.

Isn't the term 'movie game' just a shot at Naughty Dog for making lots of cinematic cutscenes with boring, linear game play in between?

I really enjoy the first three Metal Gear Solid Games as far as cinematic direction. MGS1 still holds up incredibly well for a PS1 game.

Me too.

I was pissed when Xbox stopped trying with those games. Here's hoping Series era changes some of that.

Last of Us 1 probably. 2 has much better gameplay and higher production value but I enjoyed 1 way, way more that I've done 3 full replays in the past 7 years. I rarely do replays.

Uncharted 4 was a massive step up in animations, gameplay and presentation compared to past UC but damn, the lack of supernatural and abnormal brother mia showing up was weird and lacked the punch in 4 and LL.

As the term "movie game" is widely misused here on system wars, I'll go with what an actual movie game is.

Best I've played is Sewer Shark on Sega CD. I still play it from time to time.

Max Payne 3 is pretty epic. Uncharted 2 has amazing pacing. If God Of War 3 counts that's one of my favorite games of all times.

My issue is that I don't understand your definition of a movie game at all. For example can a game from a first person perspective be a movie game in your opinion?

I hate it the term movie game as it makes no sense, but if I had to pick my favourite games with lots of cut scenes. I would have to choose Metal Gear Solid 4 or Yakuza 0

How can MGS not be a movie game. 4 literally had a hour long cut scene!

Is a 'movie' game just a game you don't really like?

The definition "movie game" doesn't really exist, at least it's not defining what you mean with it, so I have a hard time answering. I do know what kind of games you mean though.

I play extremely few games that are as cinematic as stuff like Uncharted or Last of Us (none actually, as I can recall). "Games" like Detroit: Become Human, I'd never even consider trying out as it'd bore the poo out of me.

So... iunno. Mafia maybe? Wouldn't really call it a movie game though. You still play it more than your average overhyped PlayStation game where the label "movie game" is more fitting.
